Super Easy Good-4-U Pumpkin Spiced Lattes! ๐ŸŽƒโ˜•๐Ÿ˜ (Vegan/No Processed Sugar)

in #food โ€ข 6 years ago

How much money do you spend on coffee/specialty drinks at cafes? Why not save that well earned SBD and make a better, healthier version at home?!

pumpkin 1.jpg

My poppa bear was visiting me here in Bali and although we have some of the most amazing coffee beans in the world here, he would drive everyday 15 minutes into town to get a certain coffee from a certain franchise and nothing could stop him- not even the $5USD price tag!

Not this gal!

However, one day he brought me into the cafe with him and got my cravings all wrapped around a certain Pumpkin Spiced Latte... drool.

You all know though that 1) I'm vegan so latte just means over complication in public and 2) I don't do processed sugar so that means all the liquids and syrups were off the menu too.

No spiced latte for me. :(

Not so fast!

This is the kind of stuff I live for (as you know by now!) soooo, you guessed it! I MADE A HEALTHY AT HOME VERSION! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Want me to share the secrets with you?

Here you go! Merry Pumpkin Spiced Latte Day!

What you need: (serves 4 small tea cups)

pumpkin 5.jpg

  • 1 cup of pumpkin (I used fresh, boiled local pumpkin)
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbs cinnamon
  • 1-2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1-2 tsp all spice
  • 1 tsp star anise powder

What to do:

  • Put all of the spices into a skillet and turn on heat to medium (can use about a tsp of coconut oil if you'd like)
  • After about 2 minutes, you'll smell the lovely spices.
  • Add in the almond (or other nut milk).
  • Stir together until heated thoroughly.
  • Combine the milk mixture with the pumpkin and blend.
  • Serve immediately with some cinnamon on top! Better yet, garnish with a cinnamon stick and it'll be just like that fancy little cafe!
  • Enjoy :)

Hey Hey Hey. This post was curated by Quarator! How cool is that? Very cool.

I'm not a pumpkin spice guy. Even a little. But per part of the discussion I have cut way back on coffee consumption. I'm way less than a gallon per day. And that is a significant reduction. I do use organic, fair trade beans and grind for every pot. Black.

Thanks for a great article, and congrats for the Quarator hit. Could not happen to a better person.

Woooah, that is cool! Thank you for letting me know! I seem to have found myself all over Steemit recently. I wonder if that means I am spending too much time on the computer and not enough making food? ;)

You know what? I have no problem at all with coffee, especially organic and fair trade. I LOVE coffee but from a nutritionist perspective, it can really effect women's hormones. The dreaded crash may come with irritation and the ups and downs known to cause chaos. Noticing this to be true within my own body, I reserve tasting the deliciousness to when I am reaaaaally in need of a pick me up or just want to taste the flavor =D

I love how turned on (as they call it) you are @bigtom13, I really admire your lifestyle and how many efforts you make (ie organic fair trade coffee) :)

Thank you again for the congratulatory message, I'm really humbled to be featured with this!

Hehe... I am with your dad on this. Need my cup of coffee in the morning.... Though mine is homemade and black. No milk or sugar! Nice recipe and presentation. My fav is golden milk. So good too.

You can add coffee into this for a pick me up ;) I believe the Starbucks version comes with espresso inside ;)

I find that as much as I love coffee, it really messes with my energy levels and I get crazy influxes of emotion with horrible come downs so I'm trying to kick the habit or only have it once and a while, like you, black and picked from the fields here :) I read a book about 5 years ago talking about the effects of caffeine on hormones but I was too thick headed to listen, I'm trying it out now to see the difference. How do you feel? Do you notice any of this?

Mmmm I love golden mylk as well, such a wonderful nightcap with incredible benefits <3

I have hormone issues when I eat soy (all my milk glands always swell like the size of almost a ping pong ball and it hurts so much)... but coffee seems to be fine.... Luckily hehe. Have you ever tried roasted dandelion tea blend... comes very close to the coffee taste.

Oh wow! I always wonder when people have responses like that to soy if it's the soy itself or the GMO nonsense that has happened to most of the crops. Either way I am so sorry to hear that, that's awful! Tempe is a pretty big part of my life! I don't eat it very often but I love having it available!
I've had dandelion tea tons but never roasted- I'm going to have to give that a try, thanks for the idea <3

Not a GMO thing. Soy wasn't meant for eating (fermented soy is better) but it has so many anti-nutrients. I always had organic soy products so it's not the GMO but soy itself. In the past Soy was only used to fix nitrogen in the soil.

I feel bad that soy has such a bad rap but I'm with you and prefer alternatives to it! In any case, I'd rather people eat soy than animal products but I think we're evolving to an even better step ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜˜

True that! So many other protein-rich plants out there so I am not complaining. Once my parents are gone I am planning to experiment to ferment my own tempeh using other beans... let's see how that turns out!

Oh my goodness I should have thought to tell you! My farmer just started doing it with peanuts- it is SO GOOD! Maybe give them a go?

I think the same as you do. Although you do not believe it, the economic crisis that crosses my country Venezuela has allowed people to focus more on how to lower costs and eat more naturally. Unfortunately we had to reach poverty after the bonanza to understand this. Greetings, great post

It is extremely unfortunate for it to have to come about that way. I wish it were just common practice like it once was, (something that everyone valued) but the consumerism of the world is all hyped up by the media and so, unfortunately this is something we deal with. However it came about in your country, I am happy to hear that more people across the globe are turning to healthier, alternative options. We can save money, help heal our bodies, repair the environment and change the structure of society but those are big goals ;) <3 Thanks for sharing!

Not only is this incredibly delicious and healthy but I abolutely love those cute bowls. I've been looking for something like that for a long time, but did not found it yet. And the little flowers are such a lovely touch too. Well done Sweetie ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒธ

Oh thank you! You know what? I actually got those at a garage sale here in Bali! Someone was moving and selling all their stuff! It's so funny because I always look at everyone else's pictures and want all of their dishes haha so I really appreciate this. I've got to be thankful for those cute little things ;) I bet you if you try some place like a second hand store, you'd be surprised at what you could find. I feel like that kind of stuff is part of the older models so not so present in today's stock. I hope you find some XO

This looks rich and healthy dear. Really nice. Wish i can have a cup.

I'll add it to your ongoing list of requests... jeepers you are going to have me just huffing and puffing busy my dear! :)

Hahahaha inam definitely going to have you busy, my dear, but then, i would still be around and beside you, to offer help, so as to make it easier. Oh yes, i am good with massage too. So, i can compensate with that? Haha. My lists are really on going...

Hahaha well I have a masseuse already who would be so disappointed if I no longer went to see her butttt I guess more massages can never hurt :)

Yes, it can never hurt. I can always pick up from where she left off. At least, mine would be readily available, at any time of your choosing. Yaaay!

Hahaha well I am not going to say no :)

Yaaaaay! That delights my heart. Very well then. I've got work to do too, then.

Hola @ heart-to-heart, se ve muy delicioso, preparare tu receta, saludos

wow I'm traveling as well and haven't made anything similar to this since I've left. Nice to know you can find all this stuff in Bali! I was considering coming but I'm too nervous to drive a motobike, lol isn't that kind of lame?

Is there a specific part of town that's better to live in than another? Sorry for asking travel advice!

Oh my goodness, well when I am traveling I try my best to still be able to bust some creations out but I mostly end up eating out or munching on fruits :P

I import a lot of ingredients though you can find a lot of whatever you'd need in Bali, just not always organic unless you wanna pay a lot for it! It's an island so it can get tricky with taxes to bring stuff in!

I don't drive a motorbike and I live here! It's freaking crazy and I'm not experienced enough to handle the roads here, it's too much for me. The road rules are basically whatever goes haha it makes me WAY too nervous! You don't have to drive to hang out here ;)

Well Bali is a great big island with very different cultures in each part so I guess to answer you, yes but it depends on what you're after :)

Yum <3 thanks for the recipe!

I never go to coffee shops. The ones we have here in Sweden have very few vegan options and I don't drink coffee. But I would definetly try this one at home :) Looks so delicious :)

Neither do I ;) Except when my dad dragged me there haha I don't like having to pay for something I can make healthier at home <3 I thought that Sweden was growing in the vegan movement, no?

Exactly :D I totally agree with you.
Oh it does, it grows a lot :) It pops up new vegan restaurants every now and then and new products are coming more often than I can count BUT the coffee shops are a little behind especially if you want some kind of drink that is not coffee.
Often they use pre-made powder that of course have milk in it.

Oh my goodness! Premade powder -_- ugh... gotta be careful with that one- who knows what's in there!

I'm happy to hear that more options are becoming available elsewhere though,t the demand for it is going to change things I think :) I live in a special area where it's the norm (but that's why I made this homebase lol)

Haha, right! It's a Little scary :D.

Gosh, I just can't wait to start traveling and explore the world. Find some place I feel at home and settle down :)
I would love to come and visit you some time and get to know Bali from an insiders point of view :)

That's what I did but it took me 4 years to find my new home :) it's not for everyone. I actually was just debating leaving here and starting over but in the end, I decided I love it here and am just going to do minor travel while I can keep my stuff in my drawers and not have to reduce back to a backpack again haha

You are more than welcome anytime my dear <3

Gosh, 4 years is a long time but I guess it's important to really take your time and figure out where you want to live.
That's the bright side of living where it's warm and sunny. You don't really need to travel so much :D.

Aww thank you so much sweety <3

Well also, things change as you get to know somewhere. A lot of times I think I like somewhere then realize something is super flawed like immigration or flights being expensive or something like that so it's important to take some time before jumping in. I jumped in a few times and it didn't work out lol
