Freewrite Day 555 Broken

in #esteem5 years ago

I try hard not to sweat the small stuff but as soon as I saw this prompt, I instantly want back to something dumb that really bothered me when it happened and I guess it still does.

I had an old broken car in my 20’s and it was on its last legs. I loved that car, but something had to give. I never drove much, but due to my college, I was going to have to drive an hour each way to a remote campus for 2 classes a week for at least a few terms. This car was not going to cut it.

Finally my mechanic called me and told me he had another car just like mine, and I could have it for $200. We barely had money in those days, but found the $200 and got the car. It was exactly like the old car down to the color.

But unlike the old car, it had a cassette player! No radio, just the cassette player. I had never had music in a car before. I was so happy to see this because we did have some cassettes. I got those into a box, and was I going to have music for my long drives.

Instead, I had music for one drive. The second time I put a cassette in, the entire cassette player fell apart. The cassette was stuck in there, and the front fell off and some other pieces flew around the car. It was a cassette player apocalypse!

I couldn’t, and didn’t tell my husband about this. He knew how happy I was about this cassette player, and I did not want to upset him too. He would never come in this car anyway.

I jammed the front back on and just looked at that broken thing for the next few years I had the car. Every single time I got in the car, it bothered me, and the rest of the cassettes just sat on the floor of the passenger side, wondering why they were still there.

I’m still fuming while writing this. When you buy a car for $200, shouldn’t the cassette player work?

My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on steemit when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting on steemit. I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

@fitinfun Isn't it funny how we can get attached to a car, I had a red dodge, can't remember what kind, but I loved that car, it had a slant 6 engine and I could fix anything that went wrong on it, until my daughter run it out of oil and did not stop when the oil light came on. I was upset over the engine being blown but could not be mad at her, she was coming home late at night and was in a bad area. I would rather have her safe than a car.
