Obstacle Race

Eichi accommodated himself in the seat of the slider and accelerated to the maximum speed that the machine could advance, around him, columns of water rose from the surface of the lake, as if they were walls, stood in his way to the coast where his destiny was.

At the bottom of the artificial lake, several hundred jets were firing loads of hundreds of liters of water in a completely random sequence. Its purpose was to prevent the passage of those who will venture to try to cross the body of water from one coast to the other.

Along with Eichi, twenty-nine other participants tried different routes to complete the journey, several ramps and small bridges, also randomly placed, could help them shorten the path, or on the contrary, delay them in their career.

To his right, while Eichi dodged a wall that suddenly rose in front of him, the participant of Palas was thrown through the air, not having so much luck; while ahead, a sudden ramp towards falling to one of the two coming from Cerberus. "How could a planet without lakes or significant bodies of water have two classified in this event," he thought, as he watched him fall on his face with his slider crashing against the cold surface of the water.

On the giant air screen, projected onto the dome over the lake, one could see the list of participants continuing in the race. It was just him and twelve others. Pierce, from Bellerophon, continued at the head, another of those participants coming from worlds he did not imagine, how they could get here.

The lake was ten kilometers from one end to the other and one wider, it was the official measure required by the Olympic committee, the number of jets, it had to oscillate between one thousand and one thousand five hundred, in fact the exact figure was unknown to the participants and changed from race to race, but the participants of previous rounds, said that they had never seen so many active. Many claimed it was the most difficult circuit they had ever driven.

A little more than two kilometers from the finish line, Eichi had the third position, surpassed only by the competitor from Caronte, in second place and Pierce who was leading the competition, it was then when a ramp suddenly appeared in front of him and raised him ten meters in the air and next to touch the water again, a bridge sucked him out and expelled him less than five hundred meters from the finish line, placing him in first place.

A torrent of adrenaline ran all over his body, victory was almost in his hands, almost a hundred meters from the finish line, a hard blow shook him. He woke up ten minutes later on a stretcher in the infirmary, a wall of water had suddenly released him about fifteen meters into the air, knocking him out with the impact. He had been disqualified less than a hundred yards from the arrival. The winner was Mateo Alvarado, the participant of Caronte, who, at the last moment, managed to overtake Pierce who came in second place. The third place was deserted, because only they managed to finish the race.
