[LEARN & EARN - Week #4] What did you learn in the last couple of days? **2 STEEM BOUNTY**

in #education5 years ago (edited)

One thing a day, keep stupidity away :) I've lately started to write morning journal similar to how Tim Ferris does. But I've added one more column:

What did I learn yesterday?

It quickly became my favorite thing to write down in the morning. Just couple of words. Usually between 3-6. Just keywords. The realization that I'm waking up smarter than yesterday just totally boosts the energy for the next day.

Last week entries from my personal journal

  • Monday - Learned to control myself better and I didn't go to training as I didn't have a fix tape for my wrist and would possible cause reinjuring myself.
  • Tuesday - My favorite slovakian sweet was being manufactured already in 1952!
  • Wednesday - When to use .concat vs Array.prototype.push.apply in Typescript
  • Thursday - "Scared" in german is "erschreckt" and not "erschrocken"
  • Friday - Magicians seem to really do some magical stuff. Dude managed to get a coin thru my tshirt without making a whole in it :O

STEEM BOUNTY (2 STEEM )

I want YOU to do the same! And because I know that we're all driven by the number in our STEEM wallet, I'm adding a tiny STEEM Bounty on this post. There are two ways how to get the bounty:

  • BIGGER - comment on Saturday or Sunday and write what have you learned on each day of the week
  • SMALLER - if you've just randomly came over, write down 3 things you've lately learned and you will get some cut as well

Whale users? Anyone?

I thought about one extra REAL LEARNERS' bounty size which would require participants to daily fill in the Google spreadsheet! I could take care of writing the script to check if people are not cheating. But to make people come back daily, the bounty needs to be higher than 1 STEEM. If some whale users read & like this idea, just lemme know if you could donate couple of STEEM for the cause to increase bounty and get the REAL LEARNERS' division going :)

Continued sponsorship from @simplymike :)

Correctly spelled this time ;) Double checked it! :D Adding 1 STEEM from what she sent me to the pool this week as well.

Learners' table

Third week in the pocket and as expected, number of participants dropped from the last week as we didn't get shared by @steemitbloggers in the Discord this time. Therefore I think the ideal is to continue with 2 STEEM for the next week and let's see how things develop. I'm adding a footer to most of my Steemit comments which point to the contest, so let's see if it will help.

Current title holders:
Hard worker (the longest current streak): We have 4 people sharing this place this week (@simplymike, @trincowski, @manoldonchev and @mattifer)
Efficient learner (most STEEM earned): @delishtreats defending the title 2nd time

You'll be surprised how addictive this habbit is :) The great feeling of being smarter then couple of days ago is just too good to resist :) It doesn't take even 3 minutes really! Join us and see yourself!

Can't wait to read the stuff you learned this week :) Matko.

Congratulations to the following winner(s) of the bounty!

I cheaped out on you last one so I have been writing notes for this one!

Monday: @celestal has recently taken up dancing and is seeing the benefits. Kind of a strange one but neat to see personalities I love here evolving and developing on the blockchain.
Tuesday: Franklin Roosevelt used the depression to enable the government to buy land and put people to work in the great depression. Neat to see history on a local scale.
Wednesday: I HAVE to put Khao Kanap Naam on my bucket list of travel. So much history and folk lore and such a neat part of the planet.
Thursday: A good thing to add to your technical standup is a quick kick to the knee (gentle in BJJ to shock your partner and violent in self defense to warn your opponent) to get that extra space to stand up.
Friday: Situations generally turn out as bad as you react to them so be nice and you will get good results.
Saturday: Sugar has heavily impacted the human race for hundreds of years before the most recent diabetes and obesity epidemic. Originate in India!
Today: Mt St Helens is in Washington state, erupted May 18,1980 as the largest eruption in the continental USA, destroyed 250 homes, killed 57 people and sometimes you have to annoy your kids into doing their homework.

Oh wow were you? :) Sooo cooolm it's agreat habit isn't it? Soo cool to see this tiny Steemit blog I have here is impacting some people :) Delishtreats also started her gratitude journal and booster916 found out about podcasts cuz of some of my posts. Im eternally happy for that :))

Oh and the knee kick. Just 2 days ago, I've watched a video about this kick and the guy said it actuall doesnt work. I know it's kinda thing we bjj lovers think that it's something we could use..many videos are online on this exact technique...but the guy said he tested it with big gloves on in MMA/street setting and got his ass beat..sooo dunno.

Upper tier

Haha! I didn’t say that it is good to cause damage in mma/self defence. I said it is a good way to buy your self an extra millimetre and cause a split second of hesitation at the threat of damage. To me, it is those tiny margins that make for success or failure in those real situations.

He got his ass beat because he was on the ground without control against a trained fighter, not because he tried to kick. ;)

This was some week, alright. I learned a lot of thing but I will try to keep this short and simple:

  1. Monday - I learned the 'Steps' principle in business - each additional step in front of your shop drove another 10% of your potential customers away. Also talking about barriers in front of people you want to attract to something;

  2. Tuesday - I actually sound better and look worse than I imagined on a video;

  3. Wednesday - I learned how some of the halls and rooms inside the Parliament building in Sofia look like. Also, the buffet there is the cheapest one in the country;

  4. Thursday - I learned some Adobe Illustrator basics from a Youtube video. I think I will get Creative Cloud at the beginning of next year;

  5. Friday - I learned how to deal with some new inconveniences on Facebook. More coming soon, I guess;

  6. Saturday - I finally learned how to paste links on steemit.com without
    the whole link being visible instead of a beautiful word. [text] (link) but without the space between them;

  7. Sunday - I learned I am still too impatient and at the same time slow to make a good watercolor. Let's try again, Sunday's not over!

Uuuu nice :) Saturday was the "coding day" :) You can also use <a_href> html tag if you want :)
Cool entry :)

Upper tier

Here's my entry:

Monday - I've found out that No Brexit is a lot closer than Brexit

Tuesday - I've discovered that there's a Restaurant in Las Vegas with a funny Bet - Eat a Sandwich with 6 Burgers or Be Spanked By the Waitress

Wednesday - Amazon is considering opening up a distribution center in Portugal

Thursday - I've learned that if had gone to bed just 5 minutes later, I would have won 5 SBI shares.

Friday - Learned 4 new words in Russian: тепло, холодно, снег и дождь (hot, cold, snow and rain)

Saturday - Орёл и Решка means Head and Tails, it's also the name of a very cool and interesting program about travel in the Ukrainian channel Inter+; 2 reporters choose a destination and the budget for each is decided by flipping a coin, one gets a rich budget, the other must spend as less as possible.

Ow wow...had no idea about Monday point! Thx..will google it up for more, my flatmate is from UK and he didnt say enything. Thanks for entering :)

Upper entry

Monday I learned more about the abilities in steem monsters
Tuesday I learned that people are very touchy in the steem poker rooms and scorum and toned down my thrash talk.
Wednesday I learned that I no longer enjoyed what I do for a living
Thursday I learned how much some of the dapps take steem off you when your payout matures in steemit. bit shocked.
Friday. I learned that the UK is in big trouble with a no deal Brexit
Saturday. I learned about leveling up in steemmonsters and purchased some cards

Ou shit...the wednesday is the tough one. What do you do for a living? ahaha people sensitive to trashtalk, I know it myself :D Written it's always received kinda worse...as they don't see the joking face behind it etc...Steemmonsters rock, Im freaking addicted to it :DD

Upper tier

In retail so it’s hard around Xmas but with amazon and eBay it’s now a whole lot tougher. Not gonna leave but I would love to do something else . Money is too good here though so it’s one of those things .

Posted using Partiko iOS

Shit...me and my friends call it "golden corporate handcuffs" :D Also victims of this altho Im enjoying it so far..but Im just fresh out of college

Uh oh... Wednesday was quite important! What are you going to do next?

Money is too good to leave so il stay doing it .

Posted using Partiko iOS

Ok... I've never been money motivated, so that would not work for me. I'd be on to the next adventure as soon as possible.

I hope you find a way to make it more enjoyable. 🙂😋😎

Would of been the same a few years ago but I own a house and I have a little toddler so my adventure days are over and stability is the number 1 goal to make sure she wants for nothing .

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yeah, stability becomes a lot more important once others are involved.

I can't believe I missed this...
Just a quick repl6h as I have more to do today than I actually have time for :0)

1 This week I learned that in a disagreement, there comes a time to just let it go. There is no use in trying to explain your point of view if the other is not willing to look at things from you sids. It used to make me very frustrated, but that's just a waste of energy

2 I alo learned that making a strict schedule reduces the chaos in my life a bit. If I could only find that schedule again, lol

  1. A third thing I learned (for the hundredth time) that it is important to think before you act. I'm curious to see for how long I will remember this this time ;0)

Posted using Partiko Android

Wow nice to see u here hah, I wanted to write u tomorrow and ask whether are the angry cuz of spelling thing :D have you seen my answer on those comments? I edited it the other way, making all simplymikes to simplemikes :D it wasn't that I was denying it and not even fixing it :D

Ohhh hahah totally funny that 10 minutes ago ive read a dialogue between Tim Ferris and Jocko Willink and Jocko said that "discipline equalls freedom" - exactly what u r saying in the second point :)

Haha wish u luck on the 3rd :)

Lower tier

Posted using Partiko Android

Of course I was not angry. I don't get angry very easy. It's a shame I didn't see what you did, because I love it when people swim against the stream. ;0)

Hah wooow what a nice idea to make a post about it :)) Thxx a lot this is deffo an upper tier haha...lemme think how could I add an extra tier for people who make the post from the next week on.

Will get on it later, now figuring out some shit as the refugee camp in Greece where Im flying in 7 days just got closed .... problems prolems problems.

Movement on the ground would know maybe contact them Johnny de Mol is the initiator !

Btw I see you've already entered once this week...Not sure what to do now..I guess I'll remove my upvote on your previous one so you don't get double rewards. Won't be fair to the others cuz then everyone could submit 3 things and then come later and do 5 things and get into both tiers :D

Its your call your challange

Yupp I've done so, so now you're in the upper one only. Great idea with post itself tho, I guess I'll make it an extra tier tomorrow :) all credits go to you hah :D

#LifelongLearner!

Here's the rundown of my day to day:

Monday - I learned that sleeping in an airport can be quite comfy with the right pillow and that airport security won't ask you to prove that you actually have a flight out in the morning.

Tuesday - I learned that raccoon fur coats are a real thing.

Wednesday - I learned that the large bone in my lower leg is called the fibula and the small one is the tibia and that neither one is broken or cracked from my skiing experience.

Thursday - I learned that volunteers require much prompting and may be reluctant to show up to meetings. Also that emails don't work if you don't read them.

Friday - I learned that the 'pressure test' performed during an eye exam involves a probe that actually touches your eye - errr... it bounces on the surface of your eye to detect the pressure. It's also not a terribly reliable test. P.S. I also don't have glaucoma.

Saturday - I learned that it only costs about $10 USD to ship a small package to Canada. I expected it would cost much more. It was about $40 to ship an equally small package to Ireland.

Sunday - I learned that bed bugs are impervious to most pesticides because they only eat blood. They can also adjust to really hot or really cold temperatures, so the only way to get rid of them is to clean really well, then suddenly heat them (like in a hot hot dryer for a couple hours) or to deep freeze them (like in the freezer) for a couple weeks. Also that the hotel staff are kind and accommodating.

Whew - it was a busy week!

OH wow, soooo much stuff :))) SHit I hate bed bugs cuz I've never seen one and imagine them as the worst creatures ever :D And the eye test sounds terrribly unpleasant haha :D Happy to have another lifelong learner here :))

Upper tier

I actually had two eyeball tests. Both of them touched my eyeballs, but the doctors don't tell you in advance because people freak out if they know. I thought it was pretty neat.

what sucks the most is that you don't even get a candy like when u were a kid and didn't cry :D

Yeah, a candy would make it a lot better. :-)

I learned so much last week! I was actually waiting for your post to come out so that I can share it with you :D

Monday: I learned that keeping a gratitude diary is a good habit. I started with it a few weeks ago when you talked about it and I really like it now :)

Tuesday: I learned that there is vegan Baileys finally available in Switzerland! Of course I purchased a couple of bottles already :D

Wednesday: I learned that I have to accept that I will never ever remember the word 'treffen' in German. I studied German for 13 years and I've been living in Switzerland for 8 years and anytime there is a sentence with this word I struggle and always have to work around this. I keep thinking that next time I will remember that but when the next time comes I think SH1T again :D

Thursday: I learned that I can cook 3 days without doing grocery shopping and only using things that I have in the freezer. Well, could have done healthier but laziness was stronger than me :)

Friday: I learned how to take photos with a phone and gloves on :) No, not the ones that can be used to touch your screen - this is a real life changer when it's -5 degrees!

Saturday: I learned that the more I talking about snow brings snowing :D Now we have snow too! FINALLY!

Sunday: I learned today that hot chocolate with coconut milk tastes much better than it sounds :D

I was actually waiting for your post to come out so that I can share it with you
Woohoo I loved reading this! :)
I learned that keeping a gratitude diary is a good habit. I started with it a few weeks ago when you talked about it and I really like it now
WOOOOOW!!! Did you really?!? Omg that's amazing, I looove it :)

And how can you take those pics? With the nose? Also from my video? Altho I guess I've posted it yesteday :/ Soo how you do it? I have the same problem btw :D

Upper tier

I only know how it works in a Samsung.. there are two buttons on the left side of the phone. instead of clicking on the screen you simply press the bottom button to take a photo.. very simple :)

You don't need to use your nose or ears :D

Ohhhh that's what you mean :D haha ok I knew about that one :D I like to use the screen tho cuz I can select the focused object :D

Hahaha, very often I realize that I've been living under a rock :D but that's fine :D it's warm and cozy here..

I usually don't take photos with the phone.. it's just for selfies and since it's only me on there I don't need to focus anything :D

My Samsung has a voice activation option to take photos. I can say 'capture' or 'cheese' or 'smile' and it will take the photo. It's awesome when I'm wearing gloves!

Oh wow that's a cool one!

I checked and mine has it as well, lol :D I will probably never use it as I really don't use my phone for photos that much but it's good to know that it's available :)

Thank you Jen!

You're welcome! I use only my phone for pictures, so it's priceless to me. Also, when I've tapped the screen to adjust the focus, I can tell it to 'capture' without having to adjust the way I'm holding. My focus stays right where I want it!

How great! I will try it too :)
