Quick Tip: How To Find Who Resteemed Your Post In 2 Simple Steps

in #busy6 years ago

Did you know there is an easy way to find out who has resteemed a post? I'll show you below.

Why Should You Look For Resteemers?

When I wrote my Appreciation Contest last week, I wanted people to spread the word about it. So I offered to give away 3 free @basicincome shares to randomly chosen people who had upvoted and resteemed the post.

I had seen other people do the same, and I didn't think it through...

It wasn't until today that I discovered I didn't have a clue on how to find all resteemers without having to search for them manually on Steemworld.org or through the Gina-Discord bot.

So I had a good reason to go out and look for an easy way out.

Fortunately, I found one...

With so many tools around, one risks forgetting about some.
I must admit I rarely use SteemDB, as in 'never'.

But apparently, it was exactly that site that would solve my problem.

Below, I'll show you how you can find a list of people who have resteemed any of your posts.
Just follow along...

Step 1: Change Your URL

Visit your post on SteemIt. Click the URL, which says something like this:
https://steemit.com/mapsters/@simplymike/contest-appreciate-your-fellow-steemians-and-win-free-sbd

Now simply replace the 'it' from steemit.com with db, so your URL will look like
https://steemdb.com/mapsters/@simplymike/contest-appreciate-your-fellow-steemians-and-win-free-sbd

Press 'Enter'.

Step 2: Click The 'Reblogs' Tab

Once you arrive on the Steemdb website, you'll notice different tabs.

Simply click the 'reblogs' tab to bring up a list of everyone who has resteemed that specific post.

There you have it. Simple as that!

Now all I have to do is find a tool that will randomly select one of my resteemers...
When I find it, I'll show you in my next edition of 'Quick Tip'

UPDATE: Here’s another way to find out who has resteemed your post:
https://steemit.com/steem-dev/@dmiton/wrm-service-introducing-a-new-free-service-resteems-search-service

Nice. Thanks. I'll have to go test it out. :)

Awesome! So you basically add @ tainika , write the prompt, !WRM! in the comments and wait for the report?! Please let me know if I got this wrong, Im really not good with all this stuff! lol

Right. I added the ! W R M ! code (without the spaces) in a direct reply to the Appreciation Contest, and a bit later the @ tainika account published this report:
https://steemit.com/wrm/@tainika/who-resteem-me1522336161

Well hell! Thats pretty awesome!

search for a random number generator,
you may still need to input names lol

I know of a few tools, like the 'wheel of fortune'-spinner, but all of them require manual input.
In this particular case, there are only 21 names, so that isn't such a big problem.

I was just hoping that someone would mention an automated SteemIt tool - lol ;0)

Maybe Asher could make this?

Couldn’t hurt to ask, I guess.
@abh12345, could you?
(I’m not even sure you are a coder - lol)

He knows how to extract the person who did resteem a particular post. Check
He probably also knows how to attach an unique number a each resteemer. Check
He probably will find a RNG which has an API where he could extract a random number from. Check
So he creates a virtual table, to which each entrants get a number, calls the API and searches the number in the table and the corresponding name with it. Voila! For sure he can do it.
As you can see, I am an information analist, can easily explain what has to be done but then ..... it stops :)

@abh12345 don't let me down. Created a site for it, and we all will promote it!

Hey :)

Cheers for the mention, but no need to reinvent the wheel here!

There are numerous sites (as Mike mentioned) like this one: https://www.miniwebtool.com/random-name-picker/

Just put the list of resteemers in here and it will select one :)

steemworld.org shows the list of people who resteem a post (click on the post further down the page), and they can be copy/pasted from here.

Cheers!

I'd just go for something like this https://www.miniwebtool.com/random-name-picker/ and copy/paste the names :) I don't think anyone has done something on the Steem BC yet, but they may have!

This is very useful. Thanks for sharing @simplymike.
Not sure if you noticed, but the average curation percent on the front page of steemdb is ~17%, not 25% as you have come to expect from the white paper.

Thanks @mellofello. But to be honest, I don’t get what you mean lol

Hi @simplymike. I think I read that wrong. I thought it said curation reward is 17% on average for the past 30 days, but it actually represent mvest which is a difficult topic that I don’t quite understand. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem ;0)

Great info @simplymike! I did not know about this! Very useful! Isn't funny how we have these great ideas and run with them and you end up teaching yourself a new trick or two!?

That’s what it’s all about, right? Sharing what you learn along the way :0)

A question not related with the topic.
I'm interested in joining the steembasisicome but I find it difficult to find a feedback from the users. Could enlighten me a little bit. I do know that you should upvote their post, but are there any catches? And how does the SP flow back?
Thx,
Peter

I’m sorry, I don’t think I can give you a proper answer to your question.
All I know are the basics: you sponsor someone and get a share yourself. The more shares you have, the bigger the upvote you get. That’s all I can tell you...

Okay, no problem. I will try it out!

Thanks for this. I do a monthly progress report for myself and I've wanted to include resteems , but didn't know where to go without, as you say, going through a month's worth of blog feed or ginabot messages.

I just tested this with your post URL, and sure enough, it worked. There may be a slight delay between when the resteem is done and when it shows up on Steemdb that only mattered because I went to go see right away if I showed up as a resteemer. :)

I really feel that the resteem is underutilized here. So many posts I've read (of course, most of them were coming from larger accounts or people following a ton of people), feel the resteem is just added clutter. I find that sad, since the resteem is our way of sharing what we think has value to others.

Or they'll say, "If more than one person resteems the post, then I'll see it that many times." I don't know if that was true until recently, but I've been noticing that resteemed posts are showing up with more than one username if more than one resteemed it. So, in my feed, they've only been showing up once.

Look at the top of the comments section. I’ve just added an update with another way to find out how to find out who resteemed your post, @glenalbrethsen

Thanks for sharing this @simplymike! Im planning on doing a contest soon and was wanting to add a prize for resteeming the contest. I hadnt even thought of how that would work. Thanks for saving me the headache that was sure to come! lol

Looking forward to you finding a automated person picker! :D

Look at the top of the comments section. I’ve just added an update with another way to find out how to find out who resteemed your post, @smylie2005

So far no luck on the automated resteem picker. Maybe I should contact the people that made the Comment Picker - tool...

Thanks for the "quick tip" @simplymike! This is yet another great idea from

the person who always says she has no idea what to write about ;) A little bit of specific information as to not overload a new user, or an older one like me who just needs bits of information at a time ;)

I have never used the site you're suggesting, or the one you mention in the comments ("Update"). Thank you so much...I'll have to check them both out!

Thanks @lynncoyle.
Two days ago, I bumped into the account of @gsxr and his ‘SteemIt In A Minute’ posts. I thought it was a very good idea to ‘feed’ people useful information in smaller chuncks, instead of always writing these long epistels and providing an information overload.

I plan to do more of these ‘Quick Tips’-posts. Just some simple, straight to the point information that comes in useful.
I might do another one today or tomorrow as another reminder for people to use their posting key to log in. I see way too many people that still don’t know about this, and the phishing scams are growing in number as we speak...

"Steemit in a Minute" posts...such a cool idea! You're right too; it's so much easier to retain one thing and then come back for more. And it's a bit easier to write as well ;)

Yes I've noticed too that people are unaware of the phishing scams; They really need to just use their posting key, but I am preaching to the choir with you!

tipuvote! 0.10

What a pleasant surprise :) Thank you so much for that @simplymike ...that was so kind of you to do!
