5 Awesome Strategies to Produce Social Media Posts that Get Your Fans Raving About

in #business6 years ago

If you have a social media page that's crazy with engagement, kinda like those party joints that everyone can't stop talking about, then stop reading. You can just hit the back button, and upvote if you like the title. :)

But if you're thinking,

"Oh Mav! Yes, that's what I want my social media pages to be like! I want me social media posts to get maximum engagement! Right now I'm the only one liking and commenting on my own posts, and it's starting to get pathetic!"

Then this post is for you!

Strategy-Creativity-Technology

Basically, then it comes to creating engaging social media posts, it's not so much the tools, but rather the strategy, and maybe some creativity. If you ask me, over the years of creating contents to capture attention, those two make up over 80%! So let's work on some mindset that you can adopt, so you have an idea how to create better contents by the end of this post.

Oh yeah, if you master these tips here, you will realise you can apply them in other marketing materials too. Yup, articles, blog posts, videos, podcasts, ads, flyers, banners, the back of a phone case… anything you can slap your marketing message on. Reason is simple: because these tips are linked to the psychology of humans (yes, you and I too)!

Ready? Let's rock and roll!

#1. Know that all social media platforms are not created equal.

The common mistake is to have the same content created and used across all the different platforms. The truth is, while the same user are on the different social media channel, they go there for very different reasons.

For example:

  • At Facebook, you can swing between casual and professional, because the group there are diverse. They can go from personal friends to your friends' bosses!
  • At LinkedIn, you need to have a more professional tone. LinkedIn members pride themselves of their professionalism on the platform, and because they want to project a good image to their potential recruiters, prospects and business partners. Which also means they may frown upon contents that are too funky and immature.
  • At Instagram, you will need to be able to capture the essence of your message visually. Think a rolodex of billboards at the palm of your hand!

So angle your contents in a way that blends well with the expectations of your fans, regardless of which platform they are hanging out at. This way, your content will stand out because of it’s value (to them), and not stand out because it’s different (out-of-place would be more accurate) from the rest.

Yes, you can argue that a fish out of water will stand out, but hey, it's just a cheap trick to buy like two seconds of attention. Quick to forget, believe me.

#2. It must connect with your audience.

Understand the demographics (who they are) and psychographics (what they do) of your social media users. Uncover their needs, their problems, their aspirations, and create contents that are linked to that. With all the variety of content floating their timeline and social media feeds, they will constantly be looking out for that piece that not only captures their attention, but also triggers something within them, willing them to click on it, consume the content, resonate with the message, and maybe even share it.

I've created a worksheet below to help you to map out your "audience profile". It says Client Avatar, but relax, it's pretty much the same. Sometimes they are just made-up words by consultants to justify some lazy copy-and-paste work. Trust me, I'm a consultant.

Oh yeah, feel free to download and reprint the worksheets whenever you need to use it. You can thank me with an upvote.

But seriously, you should always have more than one audience profile, because I'm sure your business or causes are targeting more then just type of market segment. You can rotate your message to different audience based on the day of the week too.

#3. It must be entertaining.

It’s in our nature to enjoy entertainment. Since young, we love stories, and that love is ingrained in us even after we’ve reached adulthood. We would read novels, pay for movies, and look for experiences we can escape to, because we just don’t want to be bored.

So in your posts, you need to inject the entertainment factor in it. Now, entertainment is not always about fun, laughter and humor, though they make good approaches. You can also try the emotional route and try to stimulate feelings and responses from them through your pieces.

For example, tell a story of how your recent visit to the social causes went, or paint your audience a picture of the daily struggles experienced by children living in rural areas, far from infrastructure and opportunities. Tell the tales of triumph, of good versus evil, of rags to riches, of the underdogs who went the distance. Stories like that resonate well, sometimes faring better than those that are lively and filled with joy.

#4. It must be educational.

Your social media fans maybe more growth-centric and curious that you give them credit, so before you comment that they may not like “educational” pieces, think again. We are always looking for hacks, tricks, tips and tools to make our lives better, may it be a better way to do something, an app to save us tons of hassle, or recommendations to fix one of those nagging problems in our lives.

Because in step #2, you’d identified their problems and frustrations in their lives, produce contents that can help them in those areas. If your LinkedIn followers are busy executives, share with them useful apps for time management, or suggest tricks to cut down emails in their inbox, or even creative ways to avoid long, unproductive meetings!
If, however, your Facebook followers are health conscious, provide them suggestions on where to dine or buy chemical-free ingredients, what sporting activities they can get involved with over the weekend and more.

Oh yeah, if you can combine both amazing story telling and educational materials, your audience are in for a treat! For the past few decades, scientists, researchers and psychologists had been creating documentaries on subconscious mind and dream psychology. Sure, the hard core fans will enjoy it, but the mass public? Boring.

Enter Christopher Nolan's Inception, throw in a few hunks, amazing visuals and breath-taking music score (by the ever great Hans Zimmer), and you have audiences leaving the cinema after two and a half hours, and able to discuss advanced psychological concepts.

Regardless of your choice of what to educate them on, always find a way to mention your brand, and drive them to support your causes. While it’s good to provide great value, in the end, you need their support, which leads us to the last point...

#5. It must be effective.

You have to ask your readers to do something. It can be to share your content, leave a comment or even direct them to your conversion/landing pages!

It doesn’t have to be a hard sell, which no one appreciates. Instead, do it subtly towards the end of your content, so that you provide good value first, build the trust, before you go in for the ask. If you ask honestly, you will be surprised how many of them are more than willing to help you.

So when you plan your next social media content piece - whether it’s a video, article, podcast or infographic - do keep these in mind. If you employ these tips well, you’ll notice that your content is getting more shares and engagement, which means your social media pages are getting more traffic and exposure!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

Sometimes it just seems in order to get the upvote I have to be a good sales person. Trying to sell a post for what its worth. By doing a giveaway or giving incentives for an upvote.

I think the key to success is to be consistant on what I do and not give up. One day I'll will get the payout that I so long ;). Thanks for the motivational post as usual.
