New Books Tuesday: October 30
Many people know that Wednesday is New Comics day. Somewhat less known is the fact that Tuesday, in the US, is New Books day.
Weekly disclaimer: This weekly post highlights some of the books being published on any given week, usually in the science fiction and fantasy genres, both YA and books for adults. I am VERY likely to miss cool new books, so please feel free to tell me about them in the comments. Sometimes these will be books I've read a pre-publishing copy of, but most of the time, they will not. These are books I find notable, but I certainly don't read fast enough in English to be able to read all the cool books that come out every week.
Some really fun books coming out this week! Not a huge list, but there's some gems to be found.
As I've mentioned many times, I am a scaredy cat when it comes to my entertainment. And I am afraid of the Baru Cormorant books. Not because they're scary. These aren't horror books. I'm scared of them because everyone says they are absolutely heartbreaking and harrowing. The thing is, everyone also says that they're brilliant.
Alice Isn't Dead was one of my absolute favorite podcasts of all time, and this book is a retelling of that same story by its author. That author being Welcome To Night Vale co-creator Joseph Fink. I'm seriously thinking of getting this one.
This series is on the line of "too scary," but is also very funny. And Charles Stross is pretty great.
From most authors, the idea of a novel-in-verse would sound utterly exhausting. But this is Jane Yolen, and it's a story about Baba Yaga. I am fairly likely to read this one.
That's a stellar title. And the concept of "Harry Potter meets The Terminator" is, I'll admit, quite intriguing. That's right, it's post apocalyptic robots vs. mages, with the remainders of humanity trying to survive.
Vampire action and kissing action.
This is the start of a new YA series set in the same world as the author's successful Lux series.
This one has the mob, magic, gender-switching, and seemingly more than a dash of romance. It looks super fun.
Sailing and sea monsters on the mediterranean sea. Intriguing. And I like Moskowitz.
Yes, it IS that Jason Segel. And apparently, this is a sequel to a YA novel that was quite well received! Which may have something to do with his co-writer being a successful author.
Book 2 in Suvada's YA science fiction trilogy about a gene-hacker who has to battle a weaponised plague
This novel, about a teenage girl who falls in a sinkhole and discovers another world beneath, sounds super cool. It's receiving some really mixed reviews, however.
This is a short Stephen King novel that takes place in Castle Rock, but is... apparently heartwarming? And possibly not scary?
Veteran author Golden is the editor here, in an anthology of Christmas horror, just in time for Halloween.
What are you looking forward to reading?
