in #art7 years ago (edited)

Night falls. Is this real or did you just wake up in a dream? The story continues...

In short: I post a dark, mysterious painting with an accompanying storyline. Within (+/-) 24 hours, anybody can choose one of 2 options on how the story continues: by upvoting an option or making a comment on what you would do. The most upvoted or commented option after (+/-) 24 hours of posting will determine the way the story continues and which painting I will post next. Have fun!

Read all about the what-why-who-when-rewards of this adventure game in the introduction. Check out the first episode. Episode 2. Episode 3. Episode 4. Episode 5. Episode 6. Epidsode 7. Episode 8. Episode 9. And the previous Episode 10

Update: as I'm getting some votes and interaction in this game, I have (for now) set aside at least 11 SBD to be devided among the most consistent upvoters/commenters. I love how this game has gotten some traction, and I feel like I can give away some SBD. Thank you! (This amount has already grown since the start, isn't Steemit awesome? And yes, anybody joining now can still be elegible for some SBD, so vote or comment, it's much appreciated! And I enjoy making an interactive story with my paintings, only on Steemit, yay!)

Episode 11: "5 o' Clock"

Djinn gave you three options: waking up from the dream was one of them but you didn't even consider that. There was a voice in your head that shouted: "Save Laura, that's what a real hero would do!" but it was quickly dismissed as you rather courageously want to fight Djinn - even though this is his game, and his rules. So you feel ballsy and approach Djinn: "Bring it on!" (option 2 was chosen°).

Djinn looks startled by your ferocious approach. His body twitches and his eyes look for an escape - but there isn't any. As you come nearer, his attitude changes, but his voice remains as soft and soothing as before:

"Alright, adventurer, do you really want to fight me?"

"Yes, and I'm goin..."

"Remember you met the Chimaera downstairs?", he interrupts you.

"I do but I don't see what that's got to do w..."

"And Laura, and the staircases behind her - you chose to go down", he quickly adds.

You shouldn't be listening and you know it but the voice is too bewitching. You already see staircases in front of you, with Djinn hiding between them. The voice goes on:

"See the staircases, one goes up, one goes down, and on and on they go - one goes here, one goes there and they keep going in this neverending castle, this neverending dream and you find yourself all alone. And lost."

Suddenly all is silent and you find yourself hurrying up - or was it down? - a dark staircase. Light creeps in. It is five o' clock in the morning.

You knew it. You're lost in the castle. Again.

Dammit.

You realise you were beaten by Djinn. It wasn't a bluff after all. What he narrates actually becomes your story and by listening to his description of staircases, you find yourself exactly there. So you're back in his game and wonder. Would taking the staircase up take you all the way back to the attic? And take the staircase down take you all the way back to the cellar? You think it through this time - Djinn knows what story you're playing, so would he let you come up to him again? Probably not. And since it's nearly morning, you wouldn't have time to explore the castle anyway.

You need a quick way out. It's double or nothing, it's do or die. "I need a brilliant idea, now!", you ponder...

...Thinking that thought, out of the blue a gentle voice speaks to you - it is faint, but unmistakingly Djinn talking: "I like the way you think, adventurer. Dawn is upon us, the dream will be over soon. And I am surprised how you dreamt it troughout the night. I certainly enjoyed it, for one. It was unique how you played it - in every way. But now your final decision may come. Will you really double or nothing? Will you do or die? If you choose the former, speak your first, most brilliant, your craziest thought! If you choose the latter, stay silent. Choose quickly now."

Option 1: Double. Do! It's your turn now: what would you do? Give your first, craziest, weirdest, smartest, or whatever-est thought in a comment. Djinn will incorporate the most upvoted comment in the penultimate episode of Nocturn!
Option 2: Nothing. Die! Stay silent, let the dawn come and the dream fade.

Anybody can vote or comment, there is no way to die in this game, just a mysterious adventure to explore. Enjoy! (Some small) rewards for the most consistent upvoters/commenters. Read all you need to know in the introduction.

°Episode 10: option 1 (Save Laura) got 1 vote from @fraenk (thanks!), option 2 (Fight the Djinn) got 3 votes from @richq11, @hazel420 and @deemarshall (thank you!), option 3 (wake up from the dream) got no votes.

I told you all... just take the eternal blisful dream... sigh :P

So close to being a hero :D

Option 1: Double. Do! It's your turn now: what would you do? Give your first, craziest, weirdest, smartest, or whatever-est thought in a comment. Djinn will incorporate the most upvoted comment in the penultimate episode of Nocturn!

My comment: 'Djinn is in my head... ouch. I think I'm turning into his handmaiden before I wake up! Laura, you will have to rescue me!'

Sorry, I'm not much of a scary writer, ha ha. Thanks for opportunity to join in.

I'd say: "If we're going back to square one, let's do it right! This dream is in my head and it's not just you, Djinn, who creates that story. I shall cast upon the figures of five, the other lost souls in this story of yours, that lured me here into this dream. Now I am part of your world and I have my own stories to be told..."

And so I'll take control and make the dream lucid.

Option 2: Nothing. Die! Stay silent, let the dawn come and the dream fade.
