The Actifit Series: The New Delegation Beneficiary System (Episode 15)

A. Introduction

There's a reason why I love marketing so much. Before, I used to be scared of the term marketing until I got a job as a marketer. Marketing is quite different from selling. In selling, the customer is usually the last link in the business and more focus is placed on the needs of the sellers. However, marketing is different as the focus is on the customer and his needs. This is one area where Actifit get it right.

Actifit is one of the major dApps on the Steem blockchain that focuses on the needs of its users. The motivation behind this is so that users can enjoy their experience and be fulfilled in their usage of the various Actifit platforms. Now, Actifit has introduced the delegation beneficiary system in order to make the experience even better for users.
In this article, we look at this new system and what it means for users of Actifit. We will also explore to see if there are any benefits for us as users of the app. Finally, I will share my thoughts on the new delegation beneficiary system.

B. The Actifit Project

The Actifit project was built with the aim of incentivizing users for engaging in activity and fitness exercises using the Actifit app. To be rewarded, users only need to engage in one or more fitness activities. Users simply record their activity count with the Actifit app, and post to the Steem blockchain.

The resultant post is an activity report card and will be upvoted by the official Actifit account. Also, AFIT tokens are sent out to eligible users. These are the two forms of incentives given to users for maintaining their health, and using the Actifit platforms.

C. The Delegation Beneficiary System

I think it is a thing to be proud of to know that Actifit is wholly sponsored at the moment by delegations from users and community members. This is in contrast with some of the other dApps that are funded with delegations from Steemit Inc. My submission does not however mean that Actifit will not appreciate such a delegation if it comes (light disclaimer here). The Actifit project boasts of over 100 delegators who have delegated more than 200k Steem Power to the growth of this project.

In order to appreciate these wonderful delegators, several incentives have been setup and shared out in the past. When the Actifit project first started out, delegators earned about 100% of the entire amount delegated to the Actifit official account in AFIT tokens. In addition to that, they also received weekly payments in both Steem and SBD.

Now, to further simplify and allow users more choices, Actifit has created the delegation beneficiary system. This new system has been built in such a way as to carry along current users as well as potential users of the project. Let's look at what the new system is all about.

1. What the delegation beneficiary system is all about

Let’s say you run a blog on prayer and Christian life but you sell sex toys and enhancements. Would you be comfortable advertising such items on your blog and to your readers? I guess not. In a like manner, some users of the Actifit platforms are not comfortable with posting their daily report card to their blog. Some of them feel it would be a bore/nuisance/disturbance to their followers. The solution then was to create alternate accounts that would solely be for posting Actifit daily report cards.

While this solved the “nuisance” issue, there was a hitch to it. This hitch was simply that the user's main account received all delegation rewards. Since the user delegated the Steem Power with his main account, it was only logical that the rewards accruing from the delegation were sent to the delegating account. Unfortunately, the Actifit V2 reward system now takes users delegation into consideration when determining the user rank of the account.

Let's say I have an account named @curtwriter. However, I create another account named @actifit.curt so as not to bore out my followers with my Actifit daily report cards. But then again, I delegated to Actifit using my main account. The case here is that my curtwriter account will receive all delegation rewards from the delegation. Also, the user rank as a result of the delegation will go to my curtwriter account.

This does no good for my alternate account as it only receives activity count rewards. Also, its rank is only as a result of its activity count and community engagement. This thus leads to a reduced overall user rank for my actifitting account which affects the total rewards I should receive. This was the issue before the coming of the new delegation beneficiary system.

2. How the delegation beneficiary system works

To harmonize the rewards and user rank accruable to both accounts, Actifit introduce the new delegation beneficiary system. What this system aims to achieve are three things. These would be explained below in details.

i. Transfer of delegation User Rank Value to alternate account

Like I had mentioned earlier, the account where the delegation comes from is where the delegation user rank will be given to. This means that the total rewards the user is supposed to get will be reduced on the alternate account due to the absence of the delegation user rank. However, to harmonize this for users, Actifit will now transfer the delegation user rank value from the main account to the alternate account. This when added to the rank gotten from the other parameters vis-à-vis activity, community engagement and AFIT tokens held, will lead to an increase in the total user rank. This in turn will increase the weight of the upvote the user will receive on his report card posts from Actifit as well as the AFIT tokens accruable from the activity report cards.

ii. Transfer of AFIT token delegation rewards to alternate account

For delegators to the Actifit official account, Actifit rewards them on a daily basis with AFIT tokens for their delegations. This is first allowed to accrue for one week and then sent to the delegating account. In scenario I painted above, my main account will receive this reward while the alternate account will not. This will also reduce the user rank that is supposed to count for the alternate account, as well as the upvote value and AFIT tokens I should receive.

However, with this new beneficiary system, all AFIT token rewards accruable to the main account will now be transferred to the alternate account. It is expected to continue in that fashion according to the choice of the account owner.

iii. Transfer of Steem/SBD delegation rewards to alternate account

In the same manner, and once chosen by the user, Actifit will now transfer all Steem/SBD delegation rewards accruable to a user, to his alternate account. This unlike the AFIT token delegation rewards, will not have an impact on the user rank of the alternate account. However, some users will want it to be that way.

To fulfill such possible desire, Actifit has included this in their new delegation beneficiary system. Let us now look at how to setup this new system for the alternate account.

3. Process involved in setting up the new delegation beneficiary system

For users who would wish to make this transition from their main account to their alternate account, the process has been laid down below.

• Join the discord server of the Actifit project and chat up any of the moderators available.

• Tell them you wish to transition your main account to your alternate account. The moderator will ask for proof that you own both accounts.

• Give them the proof they require. It could be in the form of writing a short post on both accounts and including both usernames in each one.

• Decide on your combo plan. You could choose to only transition your user rank to your alternate account. You could also go for a combination of user rank and AFIT delegation rewards token or the three options. Simply make a choice, inform the moderator and it will be treated accordingly.

Once you are confirmed and the authenticity of your claims verified, the Actifit team will set up your choice in the system. From the next delegation payout round, your choice will become active and you can start receiving rewards to your alternate account.

D. My thoughts on the new delegation beneficiary system

When Actifit started out, I took note of some users who complained of how the Actifit daily report card was proving to be a nuisance to the followers. The only option was to create a new account solely for Actifit. Accounts with names such as @actifit.peter, actifit.john, etc., began to appear on the platform. It proved to be a great idea as users were able to post their daily report card without irritating their followers.

As at then, I loved the idea which I saw as being quite smart. However, when the new V2 reward system was implemented, I realized that there was going to be an issue. I noticed that the delegation user rank and rewards will not read for the alternate account. This ultimately meant that the user's alternate account will not get the right upvote value on his report card from the Actifit official account.

However, with the new delegation system, my concerns have been addressed. User will now receive their rewards and have their user rank added to their alternate account. I am highly delighted by this new update.

This new system is innovative. As I explained earlier in my introduction, it is a beautiful marketing strategy which takes the needs of the user into cognizance. I am sure Actifit will record some new delegations in the coming days as a result of the implementation of this new system.
