The Actifit Series - Aftermath of the HF20, Impact on Actifit and other updates (Episode 8)

A. Introduction

In this post, we will look at some of the happenings and changes that have occurred in the Actifit project within a few days after the Hardfork 20 was implemented. This is necessary to give users an idea of how the project has fared on so far since the HF 20.

B. What is Actifit?

For new users and even existing users who have likely come across the term “Actifit” but do not know what it means, I give this explanation. Actifit is a dApp built on the Steem blockchain. It aims to incentivize users for keeping fit and healthy via engaging in various rewarding exercises over the course of the day with the help of the Actifit app.

To use the app, you need to simply have an android phone or an iOS phone, install the Actifit app and begin to exercise every day. At the end of the day, the user can post his step count through the Actifit app and get rewarded with both AFIT tokens and an upvote from Actifit’s official account.

This project is a really important and essential one to all users. The reason for positing this is because of the two way benefits it gives to users. These benefits come in form of both the health and financial benefits as explained above. Those currently using this platform can attest to how good the Actifit app has been so far.

C. The Hardfork Velocity 20

On the 25th of September 2018, the Steem blockchain went through an update, its 20th so far since coming into existence. The update named Velocity was aimed at ensuring a scalable and sustainable future for the Steem blockchain. The completion of the Hardfork 20 was expected to bring about a number of necessary changes to the Steem blockchain. The first of these changes is unlimited editing. Old users of Steem would recall that editing posts on the Steem blockchain becomes impossible after 7 days. However, this update was expected to correct that and allow users edit their posts unlimitedly.

A second expected benefit of the Hardfork was to ensure that dApps created on the Steem blockchain are able to claim free accounts. This is expected to work in such a way that game theoretical security is maintained. The update was also expected to set the stage the stage for future Steem and SMT communities. In another post, I will talk about the Hardfork 20 and its impact on some of the dApps on the Steem blockchain. For now, the next series of sub topics will discuss in-depth about the events that have occurred so far on Actifit since after the update and some benefits or potential benefits.

D. The HF20 and Actifit - What Is Different

I. Actifit's Voting Power and Daily Operations

After the completion of the Hardfork 20 update, voting power was now upgraded to mean voting Mana Bar. However, due to a major issue with the code, there was a great reduction in the resource credits and voting mana bar of accounts on the Steem blockchain. The effect of this was that individual accounts and community official accounts were unable to make posts, write comments or reward/upvote posts made by users properly.

However, after the dust had cleared out and everything was back to normal, activities on Actifit have resumed as per pre-Hardfork 20. Users have now begun voting posts, making their daily Actifit report cards, and claiming their rewards via the Steem blockchain as well as the Actifit website. Also, the daily updates from the Actifit official account which I love and read always have now resumed after missing out on posting for the few days the issue with the Hardfork existed.

What I think about this

The HF 20 and the issues that arose with its implementation almost caused some users to abandon their accounts especially as they were unable to make use of Actifit for almost a week due to the recurring issues with negative Resource Credits (RCs). However, it is now a thing of the past and Actifitters have resumed on posting and keeping fit with the app.

After the successful implementation of the HF 20 and during the time the issues still existed, I read through some comments made by Steemians on a post by Steemitblog. I realized that some users did not really like the idea of the change or upgrade. However, my belief is that the HF 20 is an essential upgrade for the Steem blockchain. If we really wish to become better and compete with the guys at the top spot, then change is a necessity.

For platforms, projects and dApps on the Steem blockchain like Actifit, this upgrade is a very important one. As one of the benefits of the Hard For reads, the HF 20 will set the pace for dApps on the Steem blockchain to metamorphose into SMTs as the release dates foe SMTs draws nearer. So for me speaking on an individual level, the HF 20 has so far been a welcome development for the growing number of dApps on the Steem blockchain, as well as investors.

II. The HF 20, Actifit & New Account Creation

One of the benefits of the HF 20 is that dApps created on the Steem blockchain are now able to create free or discounted accounts by properly harnessing the power of the new Resource Credits. Actifit is already leveraging on the new upgrade. In terms of RCs, this operation could be quite costly. However, Actifit is putting all in place to ensure that onboarding of new users goes as smoothly as possible. This is quite necessary since new users are a fundamental condition for growth everywhere.

One thing I like about Actifit is that the developers behind the project are proactive people and seem to anticipate things before they happen. This can be seen in their readiness to begin onboarding new users. The codes that would allow for the creation of new accounts as well as claiming are already ready. The remaining thing to do is what they are currently doing – working on additional functionalities and other important details.

The aim of this is to ensure that new users to be on-boarded are only those that would have the interest of both Actifit and Steem in mind. Hopefully, the new signup process would be ready soon and onboarding new users can begin taking place in earnest.

My Opinion about the New Creation System

I don’t really know much about previous Hard Fork updates but I like this one for a major reason. This HF 20 seems like it was done majorly with the interest of dApps such as Actifit, Utopian, Steemhunt, etc. in mind. I am a new fan of dApps and this can be seen in my activeness in many of the platforms on the blockchain. This probably is the reason why I like the Velocity Hardfork 20.

For Actifit, the new account creation system portends a great deal for it as a project. In the past, there were periods were potential users lost interest in using the app due to the long waiting period in getting accounts they signed up for. There are also some Steemians who would rather create a new account for just “Actifitting”. This update thus makes it easier for them to create new accounts and begin on the journey towards a fit and healthy life.

E. Delegations to Actifit

As an app loved and cherished by a great number of Steemians, Actifit receives delegations of Steem power every day. This Steem power is in turn utilized in upvoting daily report cards posts made by the ever growing users of the platform. The delegators also receive rewards in form of Steem and SBD as well as AFIT tokens. At the moment, the delegated SP for Actifit has crossed the 140,000 SP benchmark.
