Dance of Elements: Awakening - Chapter 16
It was enough to see the waterfall at least once, in order to understand that the magic in this world exists. It was amazingly beautiful. Small in size, about thirty feet high and half as wide, it flowed smoothly from a plain rock, creating a small stream. The noise from the waterfall calmed and gave peace. Now I understand why Camellia chose this place for her training. Unlike the gorge of tears, this place has a connection with nature.
Passing a few feet in its direction, in the field of my vision, I saw lying on the ground pieces of ice. I took an ice piece in hand. It has a round shape and an unusual dark blue color. At my first meeting with Camelia, the same ice lay on the ground. And the blade that the enraged girl created, trying to protect herself from a stranger, also consisted of ice. Perhaps, she is able to change the nature of water from a liquid state to a solid state.
Suddenly, my thoughts interrupted quite crying, that like a sharp blade, pierced through my heart. I slowly, in order not to scare, followed to the direction where the sound came from. Behind a small bush, on a flat boulder Camellia was sitting. When I saw her crying and saw how sad she was, I wanted to give everything away, only to make her smile.
"Hi, Camellia it seems, we have not seen each other for a long time."
Hearing my voice, she began quickly wiping away her tears, as if trying to hide her grief and avoid unnecessary questions. Then she turned slowly and looked at me.
"Ah, it's you, Daniel. Why are you here?"
There was a pain in her voice. Judging by the ruined terrain, she tried to splash out her grief and anger in training. Instead of three stones that hung on her neck, two months ago, now there were six. It seemed striking to me, that in such a short time, she managed to increase her strength so much.
"I was looking for you, because we did not really speak during those two months. If not you, I would be quite lonely in this place. You are one of the few people who helped me to adapt to life in the tower. And now, when I see that you are sad, it hurts me. Tell me, what's going on with you? Who made you cry?"
I slowly approached her and sat down beside her. Camellia lowered her eyes and looked, as if under hypnosis to the ground, thinking about something. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Daniel, I same as you, know what is loneliness. And therefore I could not leave you alone. But it's easier for you, at least you do not remember anything. And all my life I was brought up without my parents. I was raised a busy magician grandfather and grandmother, who is not completely in her head and terribly hates her husband. And only fate gave me a man who understood me. It gave me hope and faith that I was not alone in this world, but fate immediately took him away, as if mocking me."
She looked up into my eyes. Even her sad look did not make her less beautiful. I could no longer see the tears on Camellia's cheeks, so I slowly reached out to her face and wiped them lightly. She looked at me in confusion, so delicate and fragile. I smiled encouragingly, already knowing in advance how to get her out of the depression.
"Yes, I do not have memories, but this does not make me feel any better. I would give everything in order to remember my past, like you, no matter what it takes. Do not hang your nose Camellia, tell me, whom did you lose? Maybe I can help you and together we will be able to find him."
In the eyes of the girl sparkled hope, she raised her hand and wiped away the remnants of tears.
"Good, I'll tell you, only our conversation should remain a secret. My boyfriend is Pilar, most likely you do not know him, two months ago he was sent on a mission with a few more magicians, to patrol the border of our territories. In the morning, when their shift ended, no one was found at the post, there was no trace of fighting. I've known him all my life and he would never have surrendered without a fight! Nobody knows what has happened."
Camellia again lowered her eyes. I do not know why, but it seemed to me that she knew where her boyfriend might have disappeared.
"Do not worry, I'm sure he's all right. But you said that you know him for a while, so answer me one question. Before the disappearing, did you notice in his behavior something unusual?"
The girl's eyes suddenly widened, as if she remembered something important.
"Pilar was always strong not only physically, but also spiritually, although, like me, he was brought up without parents. They suffered the same fate as most of the adepts of those times. Death in a battle for the Waldorf Tower twenty years ago. No one, until now, knows how they managed to pass the barrier of the Archmage. Then many mages at the cost of their life were able to protect our home. Many survivors, wanted revenge, demanding from Eliot, to lead a march to the lands of the magicians of lightning. But the archmage denied them, referring to the coup in the tower of Falgord. Then many magicians and masters left the tower not willing to put up with this order."
"Pilar now and then said that Archmage Eliot, at that time, showed his weakness, demonstrating the fragility of the Waldorf tower and all the magicians of the water element. And if he had enough power, he would necessarily change this order. But still, I do not believe that Pilar could leave so easily without telling me anything."
Suddenly I realized why many inhabitants of the tower seemed strange to me. All the time spent in their house, I had the strange feeling that most of them hide some secrets.
Camellia started to cry again. I decided not to ask her any more questions about Pilar.
"Camellia, soon I will leave the Waldorf tower. And if he does not come back, I promise you that I will find him!"
After my words, I finally saw a sincere smile on her face. I was very pleased and warm at heart because I managed to dispel her sadness.
"Thank you, Daniel."
Maybe I should have left Camellia for now, but I decided to ask her about the technique she uses.
"As a sign of gratitude, tell me about that strange ice that you create."
I smiled in embarrassment, worried that my question would anger her. It was completely out of place, to ask about this now. But she only smiled.
"We have a lot in common, Daniel. You are just as hardworking and unstoppable in achieving your goals. In just two months, you've managed to achieve so much. You already manage to control three cumulative stones. And only with this, you have surpassed many adherents of the tower, who studied this craft all their life. I do not know who you were before, but the goddess obviously gave you a great talent. It's amazing."
From the words of Camellia, I was filled with a sense of pride. She is the only person who appreciated the great work that I have done during this time.
"My strength consists in the ability to transform the nature of water, transforming it from a liquid state into a solid state. Such ice differs from the usual. Impregnated with the energy of Eyvaz, it in many times exceeds durability of steel."
I could not believe what I heard. She said that at the moment when she releases the energy outside and then visualizes the elements of water into the technique, which is already difficult, somehow, this girl has time to change its properties. Certainly, for the creation of such a technique, one needs to have incredible concentration and skill in controlling the flow of Eyvaz energy.
Suddenly she looked at me as if trying to read my thoughts.
"Do you think it's difficult? And if so, you're completely right. There are forbidden techniques, which cannot be used because of their destructive power. But there are also secret techniques that are known only to individual clans. My ability is to transform the nature of water. But other water mages are unable to learn it. It can be studied only in two cases. The first is to possess a huge amount of Eyvaz energy. The second is to be a descendant of the magician who created this technique. And that's me."
Camellia took a deep breath, showing that this subject was boring to her.
"Thank you, Daniel, for everything. I'm very glad that you came to the Waldorf tower. And now, I'm sorry, I need to train. In a month, on the day of memory three participants of the tournament will be selected. I must be ready!"
Her determination was incomparable and contagious. I did not want to disturb her.
"Very well, I'll meet you there!" I exclaimed optimistically.
