Dance of Elements: Awakening - Chapter 8

Certainly, there were some good cooks in the tower of Waldorf, even such a simple dish as fried fish with a garnish of fresh vegetables seemed unusually tasty. I guess the secret was in the spices that they used in cooking. A black coffee, which was served a little later from the main course, was very handy because this night I managed to sleep only a few hours. But this is not surprising with such a flow of new information. I came to the conclusion that it would take me some time to get used to living in the tower.

Today, the adherents of the tower no longer stared at me as frankly as yesterday. Most of the magicians, with passion, were discussing something interesting with their neighbors. Even the eyes of those who still occasionally looked at me, were not filled with anger or contempt, but more likely with curiosity and interest. And the table, where on the previous day openly hating me magician was sitting, for some reason was empty. Such a beginning of the day, gave hope to me. For a moment I even believed that the Waldorf tower could become my home.

"Good morning, stranger," a sweet woman's voice interrupted my thoughts.

Turning my head back, I saw my yesterday’s friend. My heart began to beat faster, and pleasant warmth ran through my body. All about what I thought before her arrival, instantly went into the background, forcing, to completely focus on her.

"Good morning, Camellia," I said, with an awkward smile on my face.

"I see you're not busy if you'll excuse me, will I keep you company?"

"It will be very nice of you."

At the moment Camellia sat down at my table, all around began to whisper and sharply glanced in our direction.

"Do not pay attention to them. Most of us have never met strangers. All adherents of the tower are very curious to know how you managed to pass what was previously considered so insuperable - the barrier of Archmage Eliot?"

She looked at me attentively, hoping to hear the explanation. But realizing that I'm not going to answer this question, tactfully continued:

"But they are afraid to ask. Okay, forget about them. Tell me, Daniel, what are you going to do today?"

It was very strange to observe her, her voice seemed so confident, but at the same time, it was possible to catch a note of anxiety, as if there was something she was insanely worried. The girl was talking to me, but constantly casting glances at the empty table, where a magician who wanted to kill me previously sat. But I decided not to focus on this right now.

"I need to attend a lesson of theoretical magic, but since I do not know where it takes place, I will wait until the adepts finish their meal and follow them."

The girl laughed, causing me to blush.

"It's obvious that the Waldorf tower has not been visited for a very long time," Camellia said sarcastically. "Our cordiality is not enough even to conduct a tour of the tower, without forcing the guest, to wander in search of the place that he needs. And what will happen when the tournament starts, and wizards from all corners of the world will come here? Surely they will think that there are only savages living in the Waldorf tower. What does Archmaster Eliot think!?

Such a gentle voice of the girl instantly filled with annoyance and dislike. But even in anger, she was beautiful, not giving, not a single reason to distract from her.

"You are lucky, I also go to this boring lesson, which is taught by the nasty old man - Master Amador. It starts in about an hour, so we still have time."

Suddenly, I caught myself thinking that I cannot take my eyes off her. And then I realized that I was too carried away by this girl. I should, as soon as possible, stop thinking about her, because she has a boyfriend, and I have a goal. I must quickly return my memory and find a woman from my dream. All these days I had a feeling that I forgot something very important. Therefore, I decided to take control of my feelings for Camellia, while maintaining a friendly relationship.

"You mention the tournament for the second time, arousing my curiosity. Yesterday you promised to tell me about it, as I remember, we still have an hour before the beginning of the lesson. So maybe you will tell me what event will be held in the tower? Otherwise, I will not fall asleep tonight."

Hearing the question about the tournament, a bright fire appeared in Camellia's eyes. It became obvious that everything connected with this event causes an explosion of emotions.

"Well, then, listen. The tournament of five towers was created in ancient times, supposedly to strengthen friendly relations between mages of different elements. But the main reason was to test the powers possessed by the adepts of the five elements. In this way, the archmages of some towers estimated the power of others."

Suddenly she smiled ominously.

"Nobody will tell you this so openly."

At the time of her story, I was able to fully experience the temper of Camellia. People like her do not tolerate pretense, and they will never live, as the world around demands of them.

The girl's soul, on the one hand, was filled with kindness and tenderness, and on the other, possessed all the characteristics of a great warrior. Demanding from the world honesty and openness, such people fight to the last, defending their ideals. They can be strong leaders, in the case that the world around them does not break their nature.

"According to the rules, the tournament is held every four years, in turn, in each tower," the girl continued after a short pause. Every tower sent a team of five people: three adepts who are directly involved in battles, a master who ensures that the rules of the tournament are not violated and the archmage. These five, make up a commission and estimate other mages - their techniques and the mastery of energy control. After gathering of all the teams, at the meeting of the masters, a tournament table is made, where the rivals are determined, and the days in which they will fight."

Camellia's eyes were full of passion, and her pupils widened.

"This is a very important event for all mages, because the tournament was not held for twenty years," the girl continued excitedly. "Daniel, you do not even know how I want to participate in it and fight with a real fire mage. But masters will choose only three. It will happen on a day of memory, a day before the start. The white priestess - master Clemensia, will choose the people, who will be granted the great honor - to be the team of the Waldorf tower at the tournament. There is not much time left, so I train harder than ever to achieve my goal."

Now I see what led her to exhaustion and loss of consciousness, near the tower, at our first meeting. The thirst to achieve her goal. Fragile in appearance girl with her desire caused me to respect her.

"The white priestess will definitely choose you," I said with a confident voice. "But tell me why the tournament was not held for twenty years?"

The girl looked around and ignored my question. She grabbed my hand and pulled me persistently.

"We should run Daniel, everyone's already gone! You cannot be late for master Amadon's lesson!"

Looking around, I was surprised that no one else was in the hall. Therefore, I had nothing else to do but follow the girl.
