Dance of Elements: Awakening - Chapter 10
Sol kindly made me a company at lunch, where I once again made sure of his weirdness. For his age, he had a rather weak body with a pale face and large glasses, which was evidence of his poor health. I think that he had no friends among peers in the tower, maybe only Camellia. Most likely, because of this, he spent all his free time, studying and reading books.
But still, Sol turned out to be quite a sociable person. While we were having lunch, he managed to share with me that he wants to bring glory to his family by creating new magic water techniques that would not consume as much energy as the other ones. And considering his thinness and not healthy look, he was more than an enthusiastic person. Such a type of people, regardless of the ridicule of others, will keep striving to achieve their goal.
After eating some delicious dishes and thanking the local chefs, we headed to the library. I guessed that the Waldorf Tower was big, but I did not even know how much. From the moment we left the refectory hall and took the path down the spiral corridor passed a whole hour. I assume that tower’s passages went deep down into the ground, which impressed me very much. After all, it was difficult to even to imagine how to build such a miracle of architecture, like the tower of Waldorf.
Finally passing a few more feet, along with the half-dark corridor, Saul stopped, pointing with his finger, at the massive nine-foot door.
"Well, that's it, Daniel. Prepare to see the largest library in the world. Here you can find books written in the times of the first-born mages."
Sol's excited look was nearly shouting that this is his favorite place. The closer we got to the library door, the more lively and energetic he became. With some difficulties in the opening of the massive door, we entered to the premises of the Waldorf library.
"Look, Daniel."
From the moment of my appearance in the tower, I've seen many amazing things and, apparently, nothing would surprise me, but what appeared before my eyes was amazing. A huge hall, amazing in its size, decorated with frescoes, with images of battles. On some of them, magicians in blue robes battled against fire dragons, with riders in them. There were no windows in the hall, but thanks to the huge crystal luster, on which several tiers of burning candles were placed, it was pretty bright here. The space of the room, along with the walls, was filled with literature located in different sectors. But the most spectacular was a huge mountain of books, located in the center of the hall, standing on the shelves and divided into many sections.
"Sol, are you with a friend today?"
I could not see from where this old man came from, who really scared me with his quiet hissing voice. Judging by Saul’s reaction, his appearance was not a surprise.
"Greetings, Master Largo." Saul politely said to the old man. "This is Daniel, the new adherent of the Waldorf tower, who managed to pass through the barrier of Archmage Eliot in a strange way. He is accepted into our order for training. Master Amador advised him to learn the missed material so that he could attend classes on a par with the rest."
The old man gazed at me intently, from under his dark blue hood. I swear that for a second, I saw blue lights in his eyes. Largo was the second master, with whom I met in the tower. Like Master Amador, he had no magic stones on his neck. Perhaps he possessed a large reserve of Eyvaz energy by himself or he was too old to perform water element techniques.
"No wonder that you managed to pass through the barrier," Largo said quietly. "I will not interfere, the library is at your disposal."
I wanted to stop the master so that he would explain his words, but the old man instantly dissolved into the air, not giving me a chance to do it.
"Who is he?" I asked Saul.
"Magister Largo is the most mysterious magician, who is the keeper of books and secrets hidden in them. There are rumors that he was never outside the library. He appears only to greet visitors or to punish too curious readers who are trying to take the books from the forbidden for them sections."
I became embraced by curiosity, and I looked inquiringly at Saul, standing next to me.
"Who gives the permission to read rare books?"
"No one. The old man himself decides which books the adept can read. Even Archmage Eliot himself has access only to those secrets of the library that Largo uncovered for him. Legends say that the goddess Eyvaz herself, tells him what secrets can be revealed to a person who came here for knowledge."
