Irving Williams and the Lighthouse Ghost--Part 18--The Ghost speaks to Irving.

 My experiment continues.

I am working on a new book, while also writing this story.  This is going to be a chapter book for elementary students, think Goosebumps.

I am writing this story without an outline and putting up the story as I finish each part.  I am enjoying getting to know these characters and setting. I am also doing this to prove to myself that a story can be written quickly and without an outline.

In our last episode Irving, Alec, and Mr. Williams, hung out  in the lighthouse and after hearing some strange banging they realize that the high quality  microphone Mr. Williams brought, they realize something or someone moved the microphone.

Part 18 The Ghost Speaks to Irving

“But, grandpa shouldn’t we wait a little more just in case that sound comes back,” Irving pointed all round him.  Mr. Williams looked at his watch. “But you two were scared out of your wits!”

Irving and Alec hung their heads. “Give us one more chance,” Irving replied.

Mr. Williams looked at his watch, “It’s 9 o’clock now. I guess we can wait another hour before I have to get you two home.” Mr. Williams readjusted the microphone to where it was pointed to before. “Well, hopefully we will catch something.”

A scraping sound emanated from being them.  “What is that?” asked Irving.

They walked a few steps up the stairs. There was no space for them between the wall and the stairs. The three walked silently. The scraping was quiet, but distinct. Mr. Williams put his finger to his mouth, reminding the boys to be quiet.  They stared at the spot where it seemed the scraping was coming from.  But nothing was moving. But there was the distinct sound of scraping.

“It sounds like a chisel begin scraped across the brick,” said Mr. Williams. He immediately turned around, and ran to get the microphone. Irving and Alec stayed perfectly still.

Mr. Williams leaned the microphone over the edge of the stairs and pointed it toward the sound.

Scrape. Scrape. Quiet, but it was still there.

Alec took out a flashlight from his back pocket and pointed the light toward the sound. Nothing moved.

“It does sound like it is coming right from there,” Irving pointed to where Alec was pointing the light. The three leaned over the edge and stared at the spot. For another thirty seconds, they listened to the sound, they didn’t move.

Suddenly the sound stopped. They leaned in even more. Mr. Williams waved the microphone around, in hopes of catching any sound.

“Irving!”

“What?” replied Irving.

“I didn’t say anything,” replied Alec.

“Irving!”

Mr. Williams stood up straight and turned to Irving, “I didn’t say that.” His face was pale.

“Irving!” the voice spoke again, clear as day. Irving stood stiff as a board, his face went pale immediately. “Irving!” said the voice one more time.

“Mr. Jackson is that you?” shouted out Mr. Williams. “Stop scaring Irving! We just wanted to see you.”

“Oh, am I scaring Irving?” the voice asked.

Mr. Williams paused. “Yes, you are scaring Irving.”

“And me a little bit too!” Alec raised his hand.

“Do you really want to see me?” the voice asked.

“Yes,” replied Mr. Williams. “We want to see you.”
