Wednesday Walk in Long Island City
Wednesday Walk in Long Island City
Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea being to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first let me explain the challenge.
Wednesday walk challenge
Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.
Try and get a few shots not just one
You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.
Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say 5 Blocks, 5 Minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance
make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss
Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join it this week please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all.
I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules
For my Entry for the challenge for this week, I will show you some shots of a walk I did lat last week around Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City

Starting with this shot showing the view of the Manhattan Skyline across the East River.

A visit to this park would be complete if I didnt share a shot of the Gantrys, from which I guess the park got its name, this shot is taken from out on one of the many Piers in the park

Speaking of Piers here is looking out over one of them.
Gantry Plaza State Park is a 12 Acre park in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City and has some cool views across the East River, in this shot you can see a few of the well-known buildings the tops of the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, the United Nations Buildings as well as the leaning towers of the American Copper buildings which I did a post on recently

And here is a shot where i zoomed in on the American Copper buildign, what I didnt know when I did the post on it is that the bit that connects the two buildings which can be seen clearly in this shot holds a swimming pool, must be a unique experience swimming there.

And finishing off with a shot looking along the river, you can see Roosevelt Island and the 59th Street Bridge in this shot, and also in this shot is the weel known Pepsi sign which is on the left hand side, I do have more shots of it and that will be another post at some stage even though I have never been a Pepsi fan and never drink it lOL
I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

I love the leaning towers, what a beautiful walk! I need to remember to do a post under this tag! :)
Those are the ones that caught my eye as well.
I added the Wednesday walk to my list of things to do for Steemit posts. Sometimes need inspiration for posts. Challenges, these types of individually sponsered categories and contests help a lot.
Will check back to see what everyone comes up with.
Have fun on your walk.
@debralee They are so cool but I know some people wouldn't feel comfortable going up in them with that lean
The A. Copper B. is one wild looking building. Sure is an eye catcher.
@manorvillemike Ohh yeah that pool between the buildings must be a sight to see

@nolasco Thanks my Friend Loved your post this week brought back memories of my walks there
I can imagine, my dear Jay. This is still the ET you used to know. Many other things changed, ones for best, others for worst. Thanks for the tip, my friend! have a wonderful day!
I am sure most of what I loved about the place hasn’t changed :)
You're right! Same here!
Great idea. Hopefully I can enter soon. If not today, next week. Sounds fun and I look forward to viewing all the entries.
Picture #4, what kind of building is that?!
Since joining Steemit I would estimate about 1/3 of picture posts have been from within 5 blocks of home. Its there, we just have to look. ALL around as you indicated.
And if I were walking here I would forget to go back. I imagine you are used to it but so much to see for someone 'visiting' Long Island.
@nananini Thanks Look forward to seeing you joining when you can
