R2R Travelogue: Gratitude and Paying It Forward

in #travelfeed5 years ago

This morning, with great gratitude for having the opportunity to have experienced so much over the last few days, on my "excellent adventure," I want to express part of it in a very tangible way. By "paying it forward" to those of my fellow Steemians who contributed to it.

Loved this picture! Given the contrast with the wintry conditions I have been through over the last several days and just a great illustration (to me) of being thankful and helping me to get this post off to a "flying start" ...

I can honestly smile about the thought of "profiting" from my posting here on the Steem blockchain, as I have always been very open about being first and foremost an investor in it. Without which, we would have never "met" ...

But ... Being my first time online, I have needed to learn, along the "road" on my Steem "journey," what it means to be a part of a social network. Accordingly, as part of the long-term mindset I have always had toward investing, I have learned it requires an understanding that we have to do what we can to support the sincere efforts of others. Without that, our investment in it is doomed to failure ...

As I have said before, I am perhaps slow, but I am also very persistent. So, I eventually "get it" ... Usually ... 😉

So ... What do I have in mind this morning?

A Tangible Expression of Gratitude

Part of the amazing experience of participating "in here" is learning about all the rich diversity of talent we can see applied by others. One well-known example is the SteemBasicIncome (SBI) initiative, based on the excellent work of @josephsavage.

He has provided his fellow Steemians with an excellent "vehicle," for what I have in mind.

Getting right to it then, in the form of SBI Shares, I am reinvesting whatever "profit" I have received from my R2R posts back into the Steemisphere, by rewarding those who have contributed the most significantly to them.

Communities

Without robust, healthy communities, in which we can all work together in "common cause" with other like-minded Steemians, to add value to our Steem blockchain, I think "we're toast" to use an American expression.

So ... Here are the ones I would like to recognize and support:

  • 10 SBI Shares: @steemitworldmap - A great community / initiative based on pinning our travel experiences and posts to wherever in this big, wide world of ours they happen to have taken place. Love it and all those who work so hard "behind the scenes" to make it what it is!

Of the posts linked to their global map, they publish a daily digest of these their curators have chosen to feature or honorably mention. For more info, here is their website.

  • 10 SBI Shares: @travelfeed - There is a lot of overlap between this community and the @steemitworldmap community (others would be better equipped than me to explain the distinctions ...). They upvote and resteem travel-related posts their curators deem worthy of it.

They then have a weekly "round-up" post on the "cream of the crop" of these posts. For more info, here is their website. They also have their own Discord channel.

  • 10 SBI Shares: @c-squared - This great community of curators does an amazing job of finding quality posts and resteeming them to their +1,800 followers. They upvote and resteem a lot of posts daily! A remarkable effort to support their fellow Steemians.

They are allied (last I knew anyway), in their efforts, with the @steemcommunity witness account of @abh12345 and @paulag.

  • 10 SBI Shares: @c-cubed - The "cream of the crop" of @c-squared's upvoted and resteemed posts get upvoted, resteemed, and featured in their daily "Exponential!" posts.

All the best to these great communities going forward, in their efforts to support the work of their fellow Steemians!

  • Note: Please consider placing one of your all-important Steem Witness votes for @c-squared's community witness. If someone knows of one linked to these traveling-based communities, please let me know.

Individuals

Making a "Captain Obvious" statement, participating on a social network involves interacting with other people. What has stood out to me above all else in my "journey" on the Steem blockchain, is the remarkable opportunity we have to interact with other people all over the world!

So ... Here are the ones I would like to recognize and support:

  • 5 SBI Shares: @insight-out - Having made a commitment of my time to the @pifc community, founded by @thedarkhorse, I first "met" this Steemian through my Week 25 post. It was her post that helped "plant some seeds" that ultimately "germinated" into my "Road to Recovery" trip. She is a great content creator, primarily for the #steemstem channel.

  • 5 SBI Shares: @delishtreats - As far as I can figure out, I first met this Steemian through her comments on one of my first "travelogue" posts - Lake Quinalt Lodge. As a "seasoned veteran" of the Steem blockchain, in general, and the traveling communities, in particular, she has been very helpful to getting me introduced to the right channels. She is also an exceptional engager.

  • 5 SBI Shares: @newageinv - A "rock in the Steemian sea," I first "met" this Steemian through a resteem of one of my posts, by the great Steemian @steemchiller - the creator of SteemWorld. We have been steadily "engaged" ever since (wonder how my sense of humor translates across language and culture barriers sometimes) ... 😉

  • 5 SBI Shares: @blessed-girl - I first "met" this Steemian on my Week 23 post for the @pifc community - my first post for them. I am very appreciative of the opportunity, as she and her family are Venezuelan. She has a remarkable testimony and I love the manner in which she and her family express themselves. Our prayers and thoughts are hopefully with the people of this oppressed country.

  • 5 SBI Shares: @rawutah - While relatively new to me and not really being sure how he / they ever found my posts, this guy / family is / are amazingly enthusiastic. Just love it, when I "hear" from them. We share some common history, in that we are both familiar with the State of Utah. I am looking forward to when he and the family go on their "adventure!"

  • 5 SBI Shares: @trincowski - First "meeting" him, as a "regular" of the @pifc community, one of his passions is artistic talent, of which I possess next to none ... So, it was a pleasant surprise to find him following along on this journey. His comments and support were great.

  • 5 SBI Shares: @janton - Don't remember when I first "met" this Steemian, but my countryman from Texas and I share many similar views. I have jokingly said I think he is really a bot, given "the Champ" routinely wins @abh12345's weekly CEL awards for engagement.

And not "by a nose" either. If he is "fully on," forget about it. Just hand him the weekly top award ... 😉 I have seen his scores +double those of the #2 Steemian on the list. I really appreciate his decision to "tag along" on this trip. And, thereby giving me an opportunity to contribute a tiny bit to his weekly CEL score ... 😉

  • 4 SBI Shares: @dfinney - Not sure how I came to the attention of this Steemian from the Great Northwest, but she provided some very nice early input on my trip. And she was even kind enough to refer to me in @soyrosa's post, who was seeking input on new Steemians to follow.

  • 3 SBI Shares: @veryspider - Not sure how I came to the attention of this Steemian either, but I love genuine, sincere communication. While I only heard from this Steemian toward the end, the comment was one of those which keep you going, when you wonder "@roleerob what are you doing 'in there'" ... 😊

I suppose it can be a bit "scary" to list some people and then agonize over whether I missed someone or anything related ... "Making my list, checking it twice ..." Nope, not going to do that ... 😉

I am just grateful for the opportunity to have "met" them all. Given "the Challenge" I wrote about in this post, I make a conscious effort to not take this for granted.

Wrapping this up, I can now "check the box" for one of the steps I wanted to take, once safely back home. I will be producing a recap / summary post in the next day or so, with links to every R2R post, for ease of future reference. And, I am thinking about writing a post or two about my reflections, while "out on the road."

Once completed, I do not know when I will be creating travel-related posts again. I am blessed to have seen and experienced many things over a long life. My memory is still pretty good. Whether I could uncover the needed "photographic evidence" to write about them? Well ... That could be a problem ... 😉

Time will tell!

Above all, I hope this post has been a source of some encouragement. Not that I am deluded to think you can "buy" encouragement. Let's face it, the SBI Shares distributed here are not going to change anyone's life dramatically - either yours or mine.

But, I believe there is great power in "it is the thought that counts." I am genuinely doing what I reasonably can, in my own small way, to express my gratitude and to support the work of others. There are a lot of real people "in here," who are sacrificially investing their time, often with very little to show for it. But, they labor on, faithfully and consistently, with their hopes and aspirations intact about what might be.

Until "next time," all the best to you for a better tomorrow, as we all work together to build our Steem Community! 👍 😊

Respectfully,
Steemian @roleerob

To understand this post, you might wish to "look back" on others in my "Road to Recovery" Travelogue series:

Very generous of you @roleerob, and a great selection of accounts to share some @steembasicincome shares with.

@steemcommunity collaborate with a contest and support @c-cubed / @c-squared with small delegations but they quickly outgrew us and are doing a fine job as a witness.

I wish they had more support for the 10k delegation contest that is currently underway but that's life I guess.

Again, very generous of you, and what a happy photo to accompany this post :)

Thank you for stopping by @abh12345 ...

"@steemcommunity collaborate with a contest and support @c-cubed / @c-squared with small delegations but they quickly outgrew us and are doing a fine job as a witness."

... and updating me on this. You mention a 10k delegation contest, but ... I don't see that on either account. I must be overlooking something, so I'd welcome a link to it.

I appreciate your words of encouragement and glad to know the intro picture created a similar response in you as it did in me. Was in a good mood and this one really "did the trick" ...

Sorry for the confusion, the Poll is being run by theycallmedan here: https://steemit.com/dpoll/@theycallmedan/which-steem-project-should-i-delegate-20k-steempower-to-for-1-year

Yes it's a lovely shot, really captured me in to read the post and they fit together nicely :)

No problem. Thanks for the link!

wow!!!! :) extremely generous and kind of you my friend! we will indeed manifest a journey like you just made! thank you for sharing it...and inspiring us so much! we will pay forward your kindness and generosity!!!!! thank you!!!

Absolutely @rawutah ...

"... we will indeed manifest a journey like you just made! thank you for sharing it...and inspiring us so much!"

... looking forward to it.

Thank you for letting me know it provided some inspiration for you. I genuinely appreciate all you have done to add value to these posts, with your enthusiastic and supportive comments.

Much appreciated! 👍

Hello friend @roleerob Now I'm seeing your publication, thanks for including me, and thanks for your beautiful words. You really have a very nice way of expressing yourself ... from the first report of yours that I read, I loved your way of expressing yourself.

Not that I am deluded to think you can "buy" encouragement. Let's face it, the SBI Shares distributed here are not going to change anyone's life dramatically - either yours or mine.

The important thing about this is your beautiful gesture, to remind everyone as you did in this publication ... thank you for taking us into your mind ... you have a very good memory and that is very good :)

I am sure that we will continue reading such beautiful and special publications as those of your trip, even if you are sharing a photo while having breakfast, your words will make it a beautiful publication !!!

Thank you for brightening us the day ... although I arrived a little late to the publication ... (sorry)

My genuine pleasure @blessed-girl, as you are one of the great content creators I have "met" on our Steem blockchain. Thank you for all you faithfully do to continually add value to it. Glad to know this provided a bit of encouragement! 😊

So, @roleerob, an extremely belated thank you :) I wasn't aware that I was part of the process of planting the seeds for your trip :) i am so happy that something I wrote was a first step for a trip like that for someone else (wow, that was a long and reader-unfriendly sentence :D )

I know you sent me a link to an article of yours on how to keep track on mentions or donations, etc... Well, now you know, that I seem to be a terrible student and still don't know how to do that... An E for me (was E the worst mark in your educational system?)

Okay (smiling ...) @insight-out, I will "walk you through it" ... 😉

Steps:

  1. Open SteemWorld. [Note: Being "precise," I have already made sure this link opens to your account. 😉]
  2. Bookmark in your preferred browser (I highly recommend the Brave browser!).
  3. Note the “menu” options on the left side of the screen. Click on “Settings,” “General” tab, “Desktop Notifications” and select the option you would prefer.
  4. Whenever you are actively engaged on the Steem blockchain, make sure SteemWorld is up and running alongside … 👍

As your time permits, you will find SteemWorld will provide you just about every conceivable bit of info you might want. At any time, for example, you can click on the “Mentions” option and find a complete listing of where your account name has been mentioned on the Steem blockchain. In either posts or comments ...

In the posts you reference, I also mention GinaBot. You have to get set up in Discord to access that option. I have provided all of the details in those posts. Both are my primary means of "keeping on top of" what is happening on the Steem blockchain re: my account.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Supporting @steemchiller, the creator of SteemWorld andone of the great Steemians on our blockchain, is highly recommended!

Note: Being ‘precise,” I have already made sure this link opens to your account.

Haha, I can't cheat now!!!

(after opening it) Ooooooh! Now, I finally know how you make your account analysis! (or where do you get the information from)

Thank you so so so so much for these simple steps, @roleerob!

About Ginabot, I am rarely on Discord, I just don't have the time to chat and that's why I didn't go with that bot.

P.S. And I will support @steemchiller for his fantastic work!

Yes insight-out, I use SteemWorld all the time - one of the indispensible apps I refer to in my posts.

Understood about Discord. I have no time to chat either. And almost, then, never do.

That said, it is a far greater resource than just a chatting interface. Highly recommended, as your time allows, you get set up on it.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

P.S. For one thing, it supports DM'ing with whomever you may wish. Often times, I may have something to say, which I do not want "immutably enshrined" on the Steem blockchain.

With the above help now written @insight-out, let me reply to this:

"Well, now you know, that I seem to be a terrible student and still don't know how to do that... An E for me (was E the worst mark in your educational system?)"

We all have our strengths and weaknesses, so we all need each other! 😊 Please feel free to ask any questions on any point needing clarification.

Worst mark here in America is an "F" and it does not denote "fantastic" ... 😉

P.S. Our grading system is A for the best, then B, C, D, and F. For reasons unknown to me, we skipped "E" ...

P.S. Our grading system is A for the best, then B, C, D, and F. For reasons unknown to me, we skipped "E" ...

Haha :D This is so interesting. I wonder why you skipped the E?! I shall research it :)

I have always wondered why do you have 3 (sorry, without the E they are 2) different grades (D and F) for "fail"?

Very good @insight-out ...

"I wonder why you skipped the E?! I shall research it :)"

... I will look forward to your report! 😉 About what we Americans were thinking ... 🤔😉

Always interesting to find the origins of why we do what we do.

I have made a significant part of my living challenging the shrug-of-the-shoulders answer, "well, that's just how we've always done it," when asking "why" about processes ...

For one thing, you will often find, at least historically (weakening in recent times ...) Americans have a distinct desire to not follow European methods / practices ... 😊

A very apropos finish to your awesome series. Giving something back to those who have helped you before and along the way. Bravo!!

I am nearly daily humbled by people on the STEEM blockchain who are "big" that help out the smaller guys. All those on your list are those people, but so are you! I have been amazed at your support even though you do not "know" me! Kudos to you!!

Looking forward to the recap and future "offerings :-)

Yes, well @steemstreems ...

"I am nearly daily humbled by people on the STEEM blockchain who are "big" that help out the smaller guys. All those on your list are those people, but so are you! I have been amazed at your support even though you do not "know" me! Kudos to you!!"

... not all that "big," but ... Doing what I can with what I have to contribute. To add value overall to our Steem blockchain. So that ... maybe ... some day ... The price goes up!
What a concept ... 😉

I am very grateful for your words of encouragement. Thank you!

What a lovely surprise my dear friend! You are such a generous person and you selected great communities/people to support. I actually know all of them :)

I didn't expect to receive anything :) I simply enjoyed your posts and the communication with you is ALWAYS a blast! You are such a nice person to talk to and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet you.

Thank you for your gift!

Have a lovely day and talk to you soon! :)

Well, I genuinely appreciate your support @delishtreats, as without it, don't know how long it would have taken me to "learn the ropes." At least as far as contributing content to the Steem community interested in traveling and "seeing" through our eyes ...

"I simply enjoyed your posts and the communication with you is ALWAYS a blast!"

Right back at you! 😉 As I have said before, if it wasn't for the interaction with others all over the world, I would have gone back to being a "passive investor" long ago. The time commitment is too much otherwise ...

Hope you are enjoying a good day of recovery from getting your toothache looked after!

I was also planning to interact less at the beginning as it takes a lot of time but then got to know many people and was interested in what they do and what they have to say so I stayed engaged much more than I planned :)

From the investment perspective, I did invest something but I'm still waiting for the right price to grow my investment more :)

Oh yes! I feel much better and I'm even without painkillers today. I touched the place for the first time and it doesn't hurt at all. I must say that the surgery was successful. I'm just dying to go to the gym but can't as the first week after the surgery you should not do any heavy physical activity or put pressure on your head. But I go on long walks instead :)

Have a lovely day! I hope that the weather is nice there :)

So @delishtreats ...

"... I did invest something but I'm still waiting for the right price to grow my investment more :)"

... you are expecting the price to go lower still ... Well, I guess we'll find out. I hope some of the efforts "in here" to get some of the unpleasant sides of this blockchain addressed are successful. If not, I would imagine you will have a great opportunity to buy at a lower price ... If there is anything left in which to invest ... 😉

"Oh yes! I feel much better and I'm even without painkillers today."

Very happy for you, to hear this. I couldn't really think of anything encouraging to say, when I read you were heading into it, as my own experience in that area didn't provide any ... 😉

Well, no pretty gloomy weather here at the moment, but there is always tomorrow ... You have a lovely day on your "walk with me" too!

Wow! Thanks a lot for the 5 SBI Shares. That's very generous of you. I may focus on art a lot but travel is also a big passion of mine, so it's only natural I started following this adventure of yours. 😉

I've just returned from a little trip to Vienna myself. 😎

I don't want to regret not having traveling enough, when I grow older and need a walking stick. So I'm taking every chance I can to visit new places.

Thanks, again!

Certainly my pleasure @trincowski, as I sincerely appreciated the contributions you and others made to these posts.

"I don't want to regret not having traveling enough, when I grow older and need a walking stick. So I'm taking every chance I can to visit new places."

Yes, good to do, if you can afford it. I may write more about my own memories of missed opportunities, which I used as motivation for carrying these plans out. More than once, I was second guessing whether or not I should actually do it.

I would imagine, with the passage of time, I will have a growing appreciation for having carried this out and having these posts "immutably enshrined" on the Steem blockchain will always be part of it.

P.S. And, in the future, now thanks to the efforts of @holger80, as detailed in this post, others have a mechanism by which they may elect to still upvote them! 😉 😊

That is an interesting mechanics, thanks for calling out my attention to that post.

What a great experience to be along with you on that incredible journey! I have been rewarded enough with the pictures and learnings of it as well so I appreciate the additional token of gratitude. You have honestly inspired me to do the same in the future. I intend to do a summer on the road journey but will take some time to prepare and think about the route. It will be a great experience to have with the family and to share with the community thanks to your inspiration!

Thank you for your steady support @newageinv and letting me know I have provided some inspiration for you and your family. Looking forward, as you deem best and when the timing is right, to hearing more of the details!

Whaaat?!!! You are so kind! I might have found you via steemit world map or travelfeed. It was a pleasure to read your posts and follow along with your adventures. 🤗 🌸

Well, thank you @dfinney for your part in creating a lifetime memory, as these posts will certainly be a part of it.

Until we "meet" again, all the best to you!
