Motorcycle Riding Tips for Keeping Safe

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Over the year of riding bikes I have encountered many different situations where I have noticed the potential for a crash to happen.

There is always things you can do to minimize the risk of an accident happening.

☠️ Unfamiliar Roads and Corners with no Speed Rating ☠️

I think all motorcyclists love to go cruzing through hills and winding roads, which have serious potential for harmful accidents.
Most of us are unfamiliar with a lot of roads, and even after many years of riding I still don't know all the roads that wind through the Adelaide hills.

If you want to stay safe on roads your unfamiliar with, you should really go at a much slower pace until you familiarize yourself with the road your on.
I could not emphasis this more when you start to hit the bends, most corners have a speed rating recommending a safe speed to travel through the bend however I have encountered a few corners through the hills which have no speed rating.
I'm lucky I take it easy but on one of these bends it really looked like I could fly through it at the 100kms an hour speed limit, though I backed off to 80 just to be safe. As I entered the corner, it kept getting tighter and tighter to the point where I was pushed to the edge of the road. I had to brake while leaning to bring the bike back on the road, but gee it was scary as off the edge of the road was a steep gully which was about a 200 foot fall.

The corner should have been rated at 35 - 45kms an hour, but wasn't labelled at all.

It's these sort of situations which can unfortunately get you.
It can be a thrill to thrash through a road you don't know much about, but that should be done with caution. Only give the bike some curry when your sure there is no danger.

I have decided to share my motorcycle tips with everyone as lately is South Australia there has been a sharp increase in fatalities on our roads.
Remember to always ride safe and have your wits about you when your out on the road.
