Web Design Learning jQuery Introduction Part 1 - What is jQuery and the DOM

in #blog7 years ago

What is jQuery

jQuery is a javascript library which helps to streamline web design.

There is a huge range of things we can do with jQuery, but to name a few it makes HTML document traversal, manipulation, event handling and animation much easier to work with.
Trying to accomplish tasks with traditional Javascript takes much more time than if your working with jQuery.

So for web developers, your first point of call when you would like to manipulate the DOM should be jQuery.
If you can't accomplish what you need to with jQuery, there are many other libraries you can use. Bootstrap, UIKIT, Backbone, Ember, Angular and many more.

A Quick run Down of the DOM and W3C

The DOM is constructed when the page loads, usually by a server side programming language like PHP, ASP .NET, Ruby on Rails and Python to name a few.
Now the key point here is the DOM can be manipulated, which means in can be manipulated on page load, during page load or after page load.
This is really cool as is means we can manipulate the DOM dynamically, using logic which we will cover later on in the series.
The DOM is actually a set of standards, which have been developed by the W3C engineers. The W3C or World Wide Web Consortium is a group who are committed to making the web standards we all love.

Well this concludes my introduction to my jQuery series.
Next part of the series we will jump straight into some examples and understand how jquery code is constructed using the jquery structure.
