F-MR Station - best hang out spot along the Lachine Canal
Each time I return to Montreal, I discover new places and I am reminded why I fell in love with this city. Today I stumbled upon F-MR Station, an outdoor public space which serves a multiple purpose: discovering new local talents, providing a space for them to perform on a free concert zone and offering locals an amazing hang out spot.
As soon as you step inside, you are welcomed by this board encouraging donations. There is no need to use the Opus metro card in order to have access to the premises. Any dollar counts and it is used to support the artists (art, design and gastronomy) and the activities offered by the F-MR Station.
This beautiful seasonal village located along the Lachine Canal opened its gate a few months ago and was a success.
The four old Montreal's metro cars have been repurposed, thus they are used as a cafes, boutiques, concert scene and a radio wagon. CHOQ.Ca radio is one of the residents of the Station which had several shows dedicated to the newly discovered talents.
Here you can find artists, DJs, artisans, chefs, or regular folks who simply enjoy to hang out in this amazing Jardin.
I loved the coffee wagon! It was an unique experience to write in there while savouring a delicious coffee and some pastry.
The site was designed with a lot of places to relax. Besides the metro wagons, you can also enjoy the metro seats, the bean bags, the hammocks.
Did I say that there is free WiFi and you can grab a bite or drink some artisanal beer in there? Yes, there's a food truck and a bar on site!
I can only imagine how gorgeous must be the views of the city skyline and the Farine Five Rose building in the night! Given that it will be opened for only a few more days, I should make an effort and come back after dark. Otherwise I will have to revisit it next year!
You could even do some gardening in here as F-MR is an experimentation place for urban plant design.
Smoking is not allowed on the premises of the F-MR Station and all users are responsible for their own safety. They are also responsible for leaving the station in the same conditions as upon arrival.
All artists that chose to perform here agree to be photographed, recorded or filmed.
The F-MR Station is open from May 16th to September 16th. For the following year, the project designer are planning to add a few more wagons.
The opening hours are from 11am to 11pm from Wednesday to Sunday.
Keep in mind that on Monday and Tuesday the Station is closed!
In case you were wondering were exactly is F-MR, you can find it in Griffintown, on Allée des Barges. Here is a map of area.
These cute photos were hanging on the fence of the F-MR.
