This is the Arch memorial in Washington Square Park in Lower Manhattan.
It was built in 1892 and is a marble triumphal Arch.
It was modeled on the Arc De Triopmhe in Paris and the marble is Tuckahoe Marble, it stands 77 feet ( 23 M) high, the supports of the arch are 30 Feet ( 9M) apart and the opening of the arch is 47 Feet ( 14M ) high.
What I didnt know till researching about the arch was that in 1889 a Large Plaster and wood memorial arch was built archjing over fifth Avenue by a local business man, and this temprary Arch was so popular that the permanent arch in washington square was built.

What a beautiful photo of the Arch. Anytime I've ever been there I think the sky has been gray! That blue sky behind it, and the sunlight just makes it glow!
@melinda010100 Thanks, and for me its the same most time si have been there the skies were grey was nice to catch it with a nicer sky

@janton it is impressive
and this is what it says up there “Let Us Raise a Standard to Which the Wise and Honest Can Repair. The event is in the hand of God.” – Washington
well JJ this quote sounds majestic and all but I think I need a redneck translation that I can understand more clearly! thank you for the information though!
