A Family Affair

After weeks of waiting the day arrived when @shai-hulud and I would venture out to meet fellow @teamaustralia members and in the spirit of mateship one @teammalaysia member that had recently moved to Perth to study. Our summer had been kind with a lovely 32 Celsius degree day, the kind so long as there was some shade and a breeze you could survive. If you are not familiar with our summers, they often hit above 40 Celsius or 104 Fahrenheit.

Why was the weather important, well, being a family affair we decided to skip the pub and have the event outdoors in one of WA’s wonderful parks. To find out about Whiteman Park check out @superoo7’s post First meetup with #teamaustralia in Perth, he gives you a good overview of the place but what I thought was so wonderful about this park was that it had a pool playground, so the kiddlets could cool off when they got too hot or bored of the Steem discussions.

While Steemit and related facets were popular, it didn’t dominate the conversation until after we discussed the basics like, what we did for a living and where we were based etc. We found out that @rivhnn and her amazeballs family live literally around the corner from us, walking distance. We spent about three hours at the park, conversing and engaging with real people who would never have met if not for Steemit, everyone had something to add and to learn. Time seemed to move too fast as it does when you are steeming it as we seemed to blink and the time had disappeared. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about the people behind the screens and look forward to growing future events in Perth.

Obligatory group shot, well as many as we could gather at one time, a few of the partners opted out of the picture and others were otherwise engaged. All up we had 15 in attendance, 11 that have Steemit accounts, the youngest being just 9. Not a bad effort for good old W.A. _{Wait Awhile} Perth. Thanks to @bmj’s wife who despite feeling ill still joined us and for taking the group images, she even learnt how to use a Steem purchased GoPro for the occasion.

Yes, @superoo7 brought a brand new GoPro with Steem! It is worth real money so don’t let anyone tell you isn’t!
