@Grumpycat Flags: Warning Beware of Imitations

in #steemit6 years ago

This is not a @grumpycat is good or bad post this is a warning.

Love him or hate him you probably know who @grumpycat is and I'm not here to swing you one way or the other but in case you don't know I'm going to give you a quick overview.

@Grumpycat is a user that has been very public and clear in both his intentions and actions in relation to Bidbots and their users, he has a pretty clear rule and that is if you use a "non-compliant" bidbot eg those that allow bids on posts older than 3.5 days old then you run the risk of a Grumpycat flag which incases you don't know can take away the value you spent on the bidbot.

While many don't agree with his methods as he is pretty blanket with his rule, his stated goal is to disincentivize bidbots being used by for-profit spammers which I don't think anyone can argue is a bad goal.

The Warning.

If you have been on the receiving end regardless of if you think its fair or not then you will be familiar with this comment.

Enter the Scammers.

After a number of accounts were compromised in a phishing scam all stolen accounts began to spam FAKE @grumpycat comments in an effort to steal further steem accounts. Unlike Grumpycat these comments are made just about anywhere bidbot use or not.

Every link in these Fake posts will take you directly through to the Phishing site in order to try and steal your account.

Let me state one more time I believe these 100% Fake and don't believe that @grumpycat has any involvement in this scam as its much easier use his VP for 100% self-upvotes than spending if flaging others or spending the the time to try and fix something he sees as an issue.

Please be careful, your account is worth money.

A very good post friends

My personal opinion on @grumpy cat is it is nice to see someone put themselves out there on a personal level, for the greater good of a community I think this is missed by many.
On bid-bots, I think the use of a bot to vote diminishes the whole platform, The content voted on is viewed or rated. it is simply a paid vote. This buying of votes is listed in the FAQ under the Plagiarism section as abuse. There should be a removal of all vote bot from the platform if the content on the platform is valued by quality. A newbie opinion.
