Starting to lose interest in Steemit and considering calling it quits...

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

You (the anti-nsfw) might not have to worry about me much longer because if my work does not start getting $$$ I feel it deserves I'll be leaving the site... Seriously, I have put a lot of time and work in to Steemit and in to  my work as well as I always do.

But when I see my posts with 150 votes  but at $6.00 or some of my favorite images at .24 or  or a series at  $3.00 I lose interest and realize it's a waste of my time. I went to a new years party and got the whole crowd together and  pitched them on Steemit and told them I was going to help people get  started.

But if this community is not going to support my work I'm over it. There is way to much whale dependence, there is way too much discussion about something considered acceptable on every major site that should be labeled "NSFW" on here and I', tired of comments saying "This should be tagged NSFW" when by all other major site standards with hundreds of millions of users making billions of dollars a year it's fine. Amazon.com even allows bare breasts in their search results and products.

If the whales  want to starve me out by not upvoting my work... I'll  be happy to leave because the last thing I need is to come here to be insulted by .24 on a image that was published in Playboy while mediocre  posts do better because they are buddies with the whales.

I see work by other people as well that is really good and it does not do well. Then I see stuff that is not very good and it does really well. I think there is too much power in the hands of too few. A flat rate per vote would be better. Because I'll tell you right now creatives and artists will not stick around if they are not being rewarded especially when they have to face unsolicited critiques and deal with random rude people bordering on harassement and can't even block them. Or getting flagged for no reason but that the person does not like nudity.

I was not around for the insane payouts sadly I got here too late. But I'm not sticking around for .24 or $3.00 a post when I consistently put out good content. I was actually wanting to start a new page to talk about other issues outside my Art. Things about my daily life, insights,  men's health, marketing, dating and sex tips as I used to be a Sexpert and Dating Coach. But why? My time is worth much more and it's way too much of a hassle to make a second page with this phone verification.

I'm a results oriented person if I don't see results that are consistent well then I know my time is misplaced.

UPDATE: I want to thank everyone for their positive, encouraging comments and advice. :)

I don't understand the problem here. You are very far ahead of the curve when it comes to rewards for your posts and how long you've been here. Also, a lot of your content is not made for publishing on Steemit. You have images that were already produced, published, and presumably paid for in other places prior to putting them on this site. You need to remember that this is a blogging platform, not an art gallery. We aren't purchasing your images - we are rewarding you for posting on your blog.

Post payouts aren't consistent. They vary based on a variety of factors. This has been likened to a "casino" or a "lottery." It took me over two weeks of steady posting just to break $2 when I first joined - and that was with STEEM prices over $1 and when others were making $5,000 to $10,000 per post. But I had no following on the platform and I wasn't doing much networking. Sometimes we see money being thrown around and expect that we ought to be getting our "fair share" of it, but that's just not how it works. I put in my time - paid my dues. Now I can earn somewhat consistently, with 630 followers and some support from large stakeholders.

Don't be so quick to give up and leave. This platform is still young...and it's not a job. Don't look at post rewards as wages for your work. And remember that you're one of the first users in the NSFW niche. You can carve out a large section of that niche for yourself. You can have influence in it. This isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. Build for the future of Steemit. Now is the best time for that. Survive the growing pains and, if things go well for the platforms building on this blockchain, we'll all be very handsomely compensated for our time and effort right now.

Yeah right, I remember month of July 2016 when lots of post are getting thousands of rewards while Im just getting a dollar. I got jealous a lot and then later on I learned about satisfaction.

every three days like clockwork he posts a blog post complaining about steemit. I expect this to continue if he keeps posting, and he is not going anywhere, he will continue to post for sure, and continue to complain every three days for sure... and it's fun to watch as he plays this pimp style mental manipulation on the steemit community :)

Agreed @craig-grant if money is the only incentive we really don't need leeches @nspart it is obviously not about photography and art it's about money only money now we know who you are...bye bye!

I was not around for the insane payouts sadly I got here too late.

lol

Like the tides of the sea, people come and go but STEEM will remain for sure!

Haha, love this comment @craig-grant!!
We should promote a #complainingpimps tag :-D

You make some good points but also just described what's wrong with the platform also which is a major barrier to it's growth. "This has been likened to a "casino" or a "lottery." That's not a positive in anyway, shape or form.

Read my reply to immarojas for more info on that and my general mindset. And I did do three shoots primarily for steemit. Hopefully I'll be able to profit from the content from those shoots down the line.

But thanks and I'm going to try to stick it out even if I spend less time on Steemit.

Your posting rewards from the last 30 days have put you on rank #20 of all Steemians! Difficult for me to relate with your disappointment.

I think he means the people he brings here. I had the same problem with a very friendly guy named @tonicantona
Also that my marketing did not make more money turned the people off. How can it be that shla-rafia only gets 2 dollar for a whole day of street marketainment?
To pay by upvotes sounds god but then maybe someone will say sybil attacks.

I know why, and you wont like it... but here it is, right now all the voting power is in the hands of the very wealthy, and to them you are a loser. They do not like to reward losers or winners like myself who don't mind looking like a loser

That is not good for the growth of the platform because many people don't like people who categorize in winners and losers. They stop the growth which would turn Steemit into a place where many people have similar amounts of steem power and where there would be a culture of upliftig and helping people to establish businesses. With a credit of 2000$ I could make 5 new users a day by running a hostel or so. When people see that I do not get enough support they think that Steemit is not exciting. It is just standard corporation bullshit where u have to wear a suit and not take drugs to be accepted. The people are looking for an alternative to this kind of world, not a copy of it with a blockhain.

you must put yourself in their place and accept them. It takes allot of time out of life to have allot of money, a work schedule, and dealing with others who always are looking to them for money, there is simply very little freedom in the life of a publicly wealthy person, and to see someone like you or me who don't have any responsibilities and lots of free time, and have no intention of giving up our freedom... they are not mentally capable of rewarding it, from a natural point of view you are more wealthy than they are, because you have more TIME, and time is freedom.

Because I'm not comparing it to that. I'm comparing the ROI on my time invested here vs. other revenue possibilities and to posts that dwarf mine in payouts, but really in my opinion are not always quality post. Some are great posts. I'm not trying to take that away from anyone.

Perhaps you should be comparing to that. I've been consistently impressed by the kinds of rewards you're generating; at our current market cap, they're quite generous.

Remember that Steem is still in its infancy by all accounts, and not only does it need to bootstrap a user base, it also needs to bootstrap an economy. Both of those are processes which take time, they really can't be accelerated (at least, not without sacrificing sustainability).

Much luck to you with your other projects. Perhaps try it again if steem is on a higher price then you will get better results.
For me as I am not a professional writter is this the time to build here my longterm success but for you as a professional photographer that is something other. Best wishes.

Thank you for the feedback @craig-grant.
By the way good health and much success to you in 2017 :-)

I just posted a blog talking about my health situation

Thanks and best of luck. I'm going to try to stick around.

Wise decision. Be aware that you are on steemit on a platform which is tied toegther with steem. That means when steem will be later on an uptrend your rewards will be higher too. Build up your followers base and invest your rewards into steem power ;-) That is the key to real longterm success on steemit. You will be rewarded for that ( that is my strategy on steemit ).

Are you creating material specifically for Steemit? There is more than monetary value in continuing to post....building reputation, community, helping Steemit survive and grow just for its own sake. I appreciate you have limited time, many who post for little financial reward are in the same situation. If you believe in the platform then holding $3 in Steem that you made today from a repost of material you had already produced could be worth far more in the future. I hope you keep at it but understand if you don't see things the way I do, we're all different.

If you do decide to stick around, the distribution dynamics...which are already changing, may improve for the better more rapidly at some point. There would still be no guarantees that you will get the rewards you think your work deserves but you never know ;)

Best of luck

Let's hope so. I'd like to stick around and will as long as the posts generate enough to make it worth my time. I like Steem it, which is why I spent so much time on here.

Hi..for some people, it's frustrating at first but they stayed on and built their followers and ranking. For some, theyre just happy posting and blogging, and the payouts are just a bonus.
I think that most of us here are just trying to enjoy the platform and the interaction which are more personal than anywhere...more direct to the authors too.
I'll speak for myself in saying that a higher steem price someday is gonna make me rich so that I can retire early so I'm here for long-term plus there is the excitement of watching the steem price on occasions ;) Am keeping my day job to not starve.
I'll be sad if you go for you create such beautiful pictures. You have found your niche that you are proud of and this you can do anywhere. I'll rather you stay here still even if you post less.

If you post the same stuff you do here that you would on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit, or a million other social networking sites for free, well then is there not the argument that something is better than nothing?

I am not trying to convince you to stay or go, but just even this post alone, at the time of me posting is at 41 votes and worth $1.53. If you put this same rant on any of the above mentioned social network, you wouldn't have a hundred and fifty three pennies.

Great thing is, you can post this same rant on all your other social networks and still leave it here too. I really do not understand why not everyone is on this site.

I hate twitter but post to it automatically, FB get's me actual business and models as does Instagram, model mayhem. I don't use reddit and never liked it. A post here takes a longer time to create and promote through the chat rooms.

And the reason why a lot of people don't do well is lack of documentation and they don't know the tricks and tips that took me a month of several hours a day to discover.

Everyone is not on this site because...

  1. The don't know it exists.
  2. It's not very easy to use or user friendly.
  3. There is no centralized Official Learning center or walk-through.
  4. The site can be very discouraging (as you can see) do to the pay out/voting system.
  5. The payout is confusing as hell to new people.

To really get the average person on here there needs to me more training, walk-thrus, and videos.

As far as me leaving, if my posts do well enough to justify the time I'll stick around.

Don't blame you. Sometimes, I feel discourage too but if you find you have better things to do, do take a break although I think you are doing better than many of us. :-)

This is the best answer so far for me.
Bravo Ace 108.
Simple and humanic.

I understand your sentiments because we had been there months after we joined the community. You are not alone in such rant but instead of complaining we just went on and on. Back to the days when lots of posts get a thousand rewards while we have 1$, we felt a bit lost and complained. But we have learned a lesson not to expect too much and just enjoy the platform.

Sad to see you feel this way! I had a look on your wall and your pay outs are rather good but that is in my eyes. I am not a photographer so I have no clue what a good picture is worth to be honest!

It would suck to lose you as your content is truly amazing.

I agree that the rewards need to be overhauled.

Good luck and please stick around, even if you need to post less sometimes.

What do you mean by

I agree that the rewards need to be overhauled.

Do you mean the distribution of rewards to author/curators?

What's your suggestion, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks. I'll try to.
