Why I'm resuming resteeming - Steemit Journal 001

Why the change?
Alright, so not even a week and I've resumed resteeming after saying that I was going to take a break. The reason? @stellabelle's article on HackerNoon from this summer discussing the gift economy of Steemit.
My journey on Steemit, and in the cryptocurrency world at large, feels very much like a spiritual journey to me. I'm having to rethink many paradigms I once believed were true while also leaning into older ideas I had about the Internet before current era of American tech giant dominance.
Choosing to take a pause from resteeming felt like the right thing to do at the time because I knew that I needed the personal incentive to write more for the platform. Resteeming, to me, felt like I was taking the easy way out.
What I've since decided after reading @stellabelle's piece was because my blog is chronicalling my journey on this platform, it acts as an information source to non-Steemians as well since my Steemit profile is linked on my other social network accounts. When non-Steemians come to my page, I want it to be a rich resource of information about the platform for them. If I find a helpful article about Steemit that I had to search for, I don't want non-Steemians to have to duplicate my efforts. I'd rather they see my profile and be able to get a pretty good idea of what this platform is about.
But since resteeming is still clunky, and because it will also give me a way to contribute to the platform in a meaningful way, I have decided instead to get in the habit of writing summaries of my resteems for the day. I'll briefly summarize the piece and explain why I thought it should be resteemed. This way, when a non-Steemian (or even a Steemian) decides to visit my profile, they can get a quick idea of why I've chosen to resteem any particular post. A regular summary post will also ensure that I write something often, even daily, and it will ensure that I abide by @lexiconical's suggestion to ensure that my own posts are not buried by resteems.
Instead of pausing resteeming altogether, I will do as @playfulfoodie wrote in her post about resteeming a few months back and resteem "with care." And in order to help onboard non-Steemians and minnows alike, I will make sure to also link to Steem.Center and Steemit's Welcome and [FAQ] pages wherever possible (which will include links in my post signature).
And so with that, I will go into my summary for the day's resteems.
Summary 001
Today I have chosen four pieces:
- Update Regarding DDoS Attack on Steemit.com, by @steemitblog (10/06/17)
Steemit was attacked by a transnational botnet, which caused the website to suffer service outtages on 10/06/17. The developer team worked tirelessly to combat the attack, and as expected, the blockchain was unharmed and other services connected to the blockchain were unaffected. While the outtage was a minor inconvenience, consider this a win for blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and for Steemit.
- [Update]Steem Android App. Amazing Performance!! AskSteem, and possibly Dtube, by @edgar-trem (10/04/17)
While Steemit users have the eSteem app for Android, there's opportunity for improvement and competition in that space. @edgar-trem is building a Steemit mobile Android app that integrates some of the latest innovations for the blockchain, such as dTube. He's also looking to integrate dMania, a meme platform mentioned in the next point.
- Introducing dMania: 9GAG on Steem - Make money with memes, by @zombee (10/01/17)
Memes are some of the most essential art of the Internet, and so much work creating them is done for free without much thought of credit or compensation. @zombee's dMania app provides a way to get paid for creating memes on the STEEM blockchain in a format that is friendly to the genre. It also provides a great way for people who are interested in Steemit who might not writers to contribute to the platform in a fun way.
This piece is an excellent explaination of how cryptocurrency works and why it rises in value the way that it does. It's essentially Econ 101 applied to cryptocurrency, but it's explained in such a way that someone without a solid foundation in economics who is interested in cryptocurrency can understand.
