Doing My Part Promoting Steem - Weekly threads on Bitcointalk!!

Yesterday a large group of Steemians came together for the first State of Steem Forum, hosted on MSP-Waves Radio. Many different ideas on how to improve Steem were discussed and I had a blast hearing different ideas from many prominent members of the Steem community.

Looking at our stats on Coinmarketcap, Steem isn't doing too great. We've dropped all the way to the 53rd spot and our volume is just plain abysmal, especially compared to other cryptocurrencies.

It seems like Steem has lost a lot of the hype we've seen back in 2017. A lot of people that join the platform, just end up leaving after a while. During the State of Steem forum, I've read an interesting message in chat by @r0nd0n, which basically said that it was too early to start promoting Steem to achieve mass adoption. Since the user experience on Steemit is not completely on point yet, it's kinda silly to promote it to just about anyone and I tend to agree with that notion.

Targeted Promotion on Bitcointalk

I've been creating threads on Bitcointalk about Steem for a while now. They do not get too much attention, but I keep posting them anyway.

I'm usually focusing on making interesting, non-spammy threads, that actually provide some benefit to the people who read them. I think this way of 'advertising' Steem could be way more beneficial than targeting a regular mass-audience, since people on Bitcointalk tend to already know about cryptocurrency in general.

These people already know how to exchange their Bitcoin into Steem and usually have no issues working with unfinished applications.

That's why, starting from today, I'll be making at least one weekly thread about something Steem-related. This week, I've posted a thread where I asked whether people have already heard about Musing, while I also explained how it works. I already got some responses, which also give some insight about how people view the Steem ecosystem.

Long Time Bitcointalk Member

I'm quite recognized on the Bitcointalk forums, having been a member there since 2013. I'm sure that my continued effort will definitely have some positive results. Especially if I'm going to be doing this weekly for months to come.

Ideally, I wish I could even change my forum signature in order to promote Steem even further, but this would mean a huge loss in income for me. I'm currently earning around $150 weekly for posting there, so unless I'm able to replace that, I sadly can't change my signature to promote Steemit.

It's a bit of a shame, since that signature would appear under more than 5000(!) posts on that forum, which is quite a big reach.

What do you think? Is this a good idea or do you think it won't matter in the end? Do you have any additional suggestions of your own? Let me know in the comment section below!!

It's always that money thing. New peeps see other established people getting 10x what they are for content that is worse than theirs and see it as non-justice.

If they chatted the mantra, 'I get more here than anywhere else' over and over again then that may work.

The money complexity may just be STEEM's undoing. Yet there are ways for newbies to gain some recognition and rewards, they just don't know how.

Yeah, I've recently found a pretty popular guy on Youtube, who is now trying out Steemit (@kleshguitars). I think i'm going to take some time to explain everything to him, because I don't want him to think he's posting here for nothing.

He recently got a vote from c-squared and didn't even know what it meant. The whole onboarding process should be simplified IMO.

@anomandsoul is working on a project that should make things easier for the onboarding process I think. As long as I understand it correctly. I think @slobberchops is right though. Unless they find a way to better reward users for actual good content, it might be a non issue.

Oh yeah, he mentioned that yesterday at @msp-waves :D

Its bewildering when you start here. Talk about a steep learning curve, its no wonder the retention rate is so low.

Steep is even an understatement almost. We're talking vertical wall here :D

Hey @daan check out @ura-soul’s project @passport-to-steem for onboarding tech simplification initiatives here I see their discord link https://discord.gg/zhUHaz

Sadly your right about so many people leaving the platform it has got so quiet over recent weeks with many leaving or not coming on till they see Steem rise again

As for making the change I think only you can make that decision, I do agree it may be good visibility for steem, but loosing that income which you are used to is a big negative

Yeah and not hearing anything from Ned or Steemitblog has me a bit worried. Luckily the rest of the community is picking up the slack and moving forward, which I'm very happy about.

I'll promote Steem in other ways, whenever my income there stops, I can definitely add a link to Steem on my signature :)

Yes but lets hope the community can come together and keep Steem strong and growing

Steemit will never be ready for a good user experience as long as it remains in the hands of Steemit Inc. The other frontends are where people need to be directed to.

I think it is a great idea to be talking about Steem off the Steem blockchain, especially about all the D'Apps being developed here.

Everything helps! I think this is great - especially the part where you highlight one dApp and explain how to use it - so people get curious and want to try it out. I suspect a lot of comments "Oh, I didn't know..."

Some interesting questions from the users too :D

Now, I booked a little possible success regarding promoting Steem as wel... If curious see my last post. I think we're doing great and who knows what all the 'bad news' will eventually turn out to be... Might as well be the much needed 'kick in the ass' for a lot of people :-)

Thanks for doing this! Cheers!

Yeah I've actually got quite a few comments already, some critical ones, but even those were still fairly positive overall.

I'm just responding to every one of them and explaining the potential!

YES! It's a great way of promoting, really, since you're basically playing 'customer service' and lower barriers to enter the Steem world. Most think it's just about blogging.

What would help u to achieve the reach to the 5000 accounts @daan? Name any dream u have and we will try to make it come true!!

We all do our own little part to promote Steem. It doesn't need to be huge, you will never know when the lucky break will happen, but if there are multiple attempts to publicise Steem, then one of them might get that chance!
