NSAS Idea Suggestion #13 - The Science Behind Friendships

in #nsas6 years ago (edited)

In this series I propose daily ideas for new members who are interested in becoming #steemstem authors.

NSAS: New STEM Authors Support

I will post an idea a dayish (it is the goal to post daily, but again real life>steemit for now). With this idea I will include a short description about aspects you may be interested in. If you read this idea proposal, and you like it, and you want to write about it:

Go to the comments and write: "I, username, claim this idea"

Obviously "username" is where you write your own username. This is so that I know who is interested in @steemstem and science in general and I am always looking for a good read. This is honor system stuff, so please respect someone claiming an idea. Again, this is just the first step towards writing a good science post. There is more to it. Do your research, use scientific sources and try to use some proper language and attractive design.
This series will have their own hashtag #nsas, so that you can go back and sort through some of the ideas I have shared and what people made out of it. If you decide to use the idea I propose, please also include #nsas on your posts so that I can have a look at it and maybe get you connected in the steemstem group.
Please also visit @steemstem on steemit as well as on Discord. Follow the guidelines and appreciate the community. That means engage, upvote and comment until your fingers bleed.

Ah friendship. All the drunken nights and awkward pictures. But friendships encompas much more than funny and happy memories. They go deeper, and not just in a philosophical way. Current research has indicated that friendships may be influenced by similar real time neuronal responses. So, apart from superficial similarities (size, gener, age, etc.) it seems that we tend to be friends with people whose brainse literally work similarly when compared to others.
For this post you should explore the concept of friendship. This topic will be for people who like to work at the interface of psychology, sociology, philosophy and science. Due to the immense amount of material you could look at this will end up being a long post.
Here is a proposed structure:

  • Share a story you had with a good friend as the intro
  • What is friendship (philosophical, cultural analysis)? Is there a history to friendship?
  • How do friendships differ between cultures? Are there similarities? If so, may they be linked to evolutionary advantages?
  • How do friendships form? And why?
  • Neuroscience behind friendships and how it relates to psychology
  • Conclusion trying to link it all together
  • End with positive statement about friendships

I realize that there is so much you could write about friendship. Thus, it is also possible to take parts of this proposed structure as individual topics. There shoule be enough material to write about the history of friendship and the development over time. Again, this is an idea proposal, what you make out of it, is entirely in your hands.
I think this topic will be very interesting and can appeal to a variety of people. You could also make this a health related post by looking at what science has found out about how social interactions and close relationships contribute to health. Again, the possibilities are almost endless.
To get you started, here is a very long article I found in Nature Communications - Link

Nice job again. Here's hoping someone will claim this interesting topic. Are these topic claims restricted to new @steemstem members?

No, everybody can claim them (I was hoping there would be more new members interested). So if you like any idea, just claim it. Cheers!
