Hello, Steemians! Greetings from the Show Me State

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Welcome to my “about me” introductory post. I am your host, mogardengirl.
As you may have deducted, I intend on primarily posting stuff that is garden related. I have a BS in environmental plant science horticulture with a science emphasis (I took several ag business classes as well), obtained in 2015. I currently work as a private estate gardener on a 20 acre private estate where my primary duties include management, planning, pest control, etc. in a large organic garden

and two small greenhouses.

Secondary duties include landscape maintenance like mowing, and odds and ends stuff (I spent several hours today scraping moss out of cracks in the swimming pool patio area). This is my third year there, second year that I have been responsible for the garden and greenhouses. I’ll get into a lot of this in more detail in subsequent posts.
While garden stuff is going to be my primary focus on here, I will probably post about other things as well from time to time. I have fibromyalgia and social anxiety, so those are topics of interest to me. I also have an AAS in medical lab technology, so I sometimes find clinical science and microbiology quite fascinating. I’m an avid reader, so it’s possible I’ll post reviews about books I’ve just read, mainly urban fiction and fantasy/sci fi.

I’m a complete and utter newbie when it comes to this whole platform, blockchains, cryptocurrency (tried to read about it but it was technobabble to my brain), STEEM, markdown, html, etc. so please bear with me while I try to learn all this stuff.

Thanks for visiting my post, and if you feel so inclined, give me a follow.

Welcome to the community. It is always nice to have another gardener. Can't wait to see what you post.

Thanks! Looks like we're both in zone 6a. Maybe I can get some ideas from you about things to do at the estate. I'm still bumbling and blundering a lot. I kind of went from school right into a position where I had the book knowledge but not the hands on experience to actually do the job well. Thankfully my boss knew that I kind of got tossed into something a bit out of my skill level at the time and has been extremely understanding of my learning curve.

No problem at all. Surprisingly, I get a lot of my knowledge now from Google and YouTube. Of course it was books in the beginning and still is if I can find good books at the thrift store.

I actually utilize YouTube quite a bit, as well as state extension services and university publications.

Welcome to Steem @mogardengirl I have sent you a tip

Very cool intro post. Garden looks so big! You'll have to borrow some of that green thumb to my wife- She tried to plant some vegetables last summer and it was a complete disaster. The yard has never been the same. LOL

upvoted!

Lol should have seen the mess I made of things the first year I took over. I kind of got dropped into it mid spring last year with no idea of what was actually going on b/c the guy who had the job before me was supposed to mentor me but refused to utilize me in the garden for more than watering. I just knew I was going to do a great job. Haha, silly me, fell flat on my face several times.

Welcome to steemit!
That's quite the nice garden!
I'd like to pass on a bit of advice that was given to me when I first started posting about my garden here. It was suggested to me that I use the tag "gardening" first rather than "garden', apparently "gardening" is used more, and gets more attention. You can click on a tag and all the related posts come up for you to look through.
Social anxiety, I know what that's like, just ask my shrink...

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely implement your suggestion in the future. Please feel free to offer suggestions anytime. I am completely new to this type of social media and have never really used tags before. I've done quite a bit of reading up on things, but it's a lot to take in. I expect to bumble and blunder for awhile lol

There's a bit of a learning curve here, but it's not difficult, it just takes time, and some effort.
