Hello, welcome to DeanLogic
Hello steemit community, my name is Dean.
Years ago, while discussing general topics of interest, a friend commented that the reasoning I responded the way I would about things amounted to "Dean logic". While I sure he was joking a little bit, I took it as a compliment, as I believe he was just pointing out that my view point on things usually was not defined by any group think and wholly of my own making. Years later, when I made the comment "I was just following them.", I was told "I don't believe you would follow anyone." This is probably the highest compliment anyone can give to another person. However, I don't think people can create opinions in a bubble, everyone is influenced by everything that goes on around them.
I live in North Cackalacky, which is also known as the Old North State and by those who only follow college basketball, the Tarheel State. Ignore what the Urban Dictionary states, cackalacky is a word that has been around probably longer than the state of California. On Word-Detective they write:
"the word may have come from a combination of “Tsalaki” (pronounced cha-lak-ee), supposedly the Cherokee way to say “Cherokee,” and “cocklaleekie,” a Scottish soup. That theory strikes me as deeply implausible. "
Which is basically a sad statement, since the Great Smokey Mountains were settled by the Scottish before the 1700s and is where the Cherokee nation is located. If anything, the combination of a Cherokee and Scottish soup would be more plausible than any other formation of the word. And it is possible that the Scottish people just used it as a way to describe the type of people settling the Carolinas, because it was the main port of entry location, way before Ellis Island. But, since there is apparently no written usage of the word before 1950 (according to the author), the author seems to think it is implausible that it could be used in the mountain areas, because those people were well known for their written concordance.
Anyway, while I have live the majority of my live in North Cackalacky, I was born in the mid-west and was moved every couple years with my father's government reassignments. We settled down south when I was 10, but I have traveled to most states east of the Mississippi and elsewhere throughout the land and the world. I have a variety of interests, so here is what I will probably be blogging about, in no particular order.
Technology
I am a web/software developer/programmer by trade. Back in the day I used to write my own hacks/plugins for WordPress, which was BB Press at that time. My current interest is in ioT. I say "i", instead of "I", because I believe it should be Intranet of Things and not Internet of Things. The original idea, from what I understood, was for things to communicate with each other in a mesh and the connection to the Internet was just an option. In fact, I see that requiring an Internet connection to run these things is actually a failure of design. I also have an interest in robotics and automation, but haven't dabbled in anything myself.
Gardening
Growing up, my family had multiple gardens at each place we lived. Even when we had to downsize from a 20 acre farm to a 20' by 20' fenced in backyard, we still tried to have a garden. Now that I have a yard I can grow things in, I am seeing what I can do with a garden. I have a YouTube channel, Leisurely Logan, that I post videos of my garden updates and reviews of garden tools that I use. My family went to Epcot Center around the time it first opened up and the hyrdoponic system that they used intrigued me ever since. I have been wanting to start my own aquaponics system and hope to do in a couple of years.
Travel
When I was a child, my parents packed us kids into our van and took us somewhere at least twice a year, not including trips to the grandparents. Now that I have children of my own, I hope to be able to explore new places with them. My YouTube channel, Leisurely Logan, also is used to share our trips, if I managed to record video and get it up. Those videos are a little harder to make than my garden videos.
Cooking
I have always enjoyed playing around when making something to eat. For 8th grade English class, we were assigned to write a story about a sandwich and make the sandwich and bring it to class. My sandwich was basically a Dagwood and was pretty sloppy by the time we got around to eating it. So, I guess I have been blogging about food for a long time. I started a blog for my wife on food, but I ended up making most of the posts. Hopefully I will be able to blog more about food and share it here.
Politics
I believe that it is every person's duty to be somewhat informed about politics that affect them. If we lived in a truly free world, where special interest groups weren't constantly getting laws passed that affected everyone, then people wouldn't have to worry about it. But, since that is not the case, everyone should know what is going on, at least at a local level. While my views may not be shared by others, they are my views, so you can take them or leave them. Recently, a friend asked me to join him and another friend for a political chat show. We started Politically Correct YouTube channel and are trying to do one show a week that focuses on a particular topic and then do an After Show, where we either expand on that topic or talk about some conspiracy or other off the wall topic. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, but we hope to inform people in between the humor.
But, I probably won't limit myself to these topics, these are just the ones I am currently taking time to write down.
Hopefully, you will enjoy some of what I write.
