Winning
Vincent Thomas Lombardi (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970) was an American football player, coach, and executive in the National Football League (NFL). He is best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960's, where he led the team to three straight and five total NFL Championships in seven years, in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls following the 1966 and 1967 NFL seasons. The NFL's Super Bowl trophy is named in his honor following his sudden death from cancer in 1970, not from any specific Super Bowl win as commonly misunderstood. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971, the year after his death. Lombardi, while considered by many to be the greatest coach in football history, is more significantly recognized as one of the greatest coaches and leaders in the history of any sport.

Well, Vince left a heck of a legacy behind in football.
I'm most intrigued by what he has to say about winning.
"Winning is not everything,
but wanting to win is."
but wanting to win is."
The first step to accomplishing anything is wanting to.
If you don't really want to do it then you certainly won't.
If you are attempting something because someone else wants you to you are not likely to succeed at it.
Source
If you only kind of want it you won't get that far either.
You have to want it!
The want of something is what will drive you to go further, work harder and push through even when it't tough.
Source
If you want something bad enough you will do whatever it takes to get it.
If your want for it is great enough nothing will stand in your way!
If there is really nothing that you want then you will likely become lazy or your energy may become stagnant.
It's also important to be clear about what you want and not be wishy washy.
Source
If you go back and forth about what you want you won't succeed very well because your focus is divided.
When you decide very clearly what you want, and you don't waiver, that thing will be accomplished much easier than you could have thought.
So, if you want something, first be clear that you do indeed want it.
Next, be very decisive about it and not wishy washy.
Then get a burning desire for it and go for it!
Remember,
"Winning is not everything,
but wanting to win is."
but wanting to win is."

Michael, I really agree with you about the importance of clarity when one is setting a goal.
Thanks @judyroberts. That is one that I have struggled with actually. I seem to have too many ideas. Picking one can prove difficult sometimes.
