Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, paved the way to abolition of slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.

Abraham Lincoln, one of our most famous presidents.

Honest Abe they called him. Definitely a very influential man even today.

Well he said something I really liked about the future.

"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."

A lot of us have a ton of things on our plate don't we?

So many things to get done that sometimes it can be overwhelming.

When it gets overwhelming like that we can often actually do less than what we could have because we psych ourselves out by thinking that it's too much.

We may even start several projects at once thinking we are "multi tasking" when in reality we only get a minimal amount of it done.

Most of us have heard the phrase "You eat an elephant one bite at a time.".

If you haven't heard that then think about the statement.

You cannot swallow an entire elephant in one bite.

When we have a large list of things to get done or a massive project that requires many steps we cannot do it all at once.

That's actually impossible no matter who you are.

However, we can be much more efficient at getting it all done.

The trick is to take small steps until it's completed.

Go one day at a time.

You can only get so much done in a day.

So decide today what's most important on your list and do things one at a time.

You'll be amazed how much faster things get done.

You'll also feel rewarded or accomplished much more often because each time you finish a task you will get that feeling.

You can stop for a second and sigh, knowing that one more piece of the puzzle is off of the table.

So the next time you are feeling overwhelmed (and it could be today), take a breath, decide what is most important that you can get done now and do one thing at a time.

Don't worry about what's not finished today, those may be on tomorrow's list.

Just focus on today, eat one bite at a time and remember what good ole honest Abe said.

"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."

Thanks for reading.

There is only so much you can do! Great post.
