BREXIT: Cutting the Gordian Knot

A new turmoil in London: Boris Johnson made his move towards breaking Brexit dilemma and provoked new protest outside Westminster. What did he do now?

British PM, Boris Johnson, requested from the Elizabeth, Queen of England, to suspend Parliament session from September 9th until October 14th, in a bid to prevent parliamentary block on the no-deal Brexit. As a bit of historian, he decided to use the technique of Alexander the Great faced with seemingly unresolvable problem. And that sparked an absolute outrage among the political class and the corporate media in UK and EU. Many critics have called it ‘an attempted coup’, but…

The Queen, from her Summer retreat at Balmoral, Scotland, gave her approval! She will open the new session on October 14th with her speech.

Looks like that has only enraged all the Remainers. UK Parliament Speaker of the House John Bercow and the former chancellor of the exchequer under Johnson’s predecessor Theresa May, Philip Hammond, both qualified this move as a “constitutional outrage.” They really didn’t mind the will of 17.4 million voters who voted out. Democracy was not their cup of tea. But Nicola Sturgeon, PM of Scotland, declared this ‘a dark day of democracy’:

Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn didn’t miss a chance to score some cheap political points:

“If Johnson has confidence in his plans he should put them to the people in a general election or a public vote,” Corbyn said, following Wednesday’s flurry of Brexit developments. The opposition leader added that Johnson was attempting to “avoid scrutiny” of his Brexit plans.

And we could hear some disgruntled cries over the Channel:

The European Parliament’s Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt decried Johnson’s move, saying “Taking back control has never looked so sinister,” while also alleging that the British leader is stifling debate.

Yes, it’s true: UK under Boris Johnson is going from the EU Scylla into the jaws of US Charybdis. The man promised he will make Brexit “A Titanic Success” while he was a Foreign Minister, didn’t he? Enjoy the Titanic orchestra music until the November first, then…

…and don’t forget Julian Assange. Boris Johnson will gladly give him to his friend Donald
