Ragtag Do-It-Yourself Weekly Challenge, Week 2
For those of us somewhat side-lined by winter weather, I though an exercise in constructive imagination might be fun.
Our first participant, @mother2chicks, did an amazing job constructing an Animal Shelter TeePee! She even used less materials than allotted, showing how to conserve items for other projects. Well done!!
She also tapped @pennsif to see what he would do. Keep a lookout for his version. I sure am!
Now, on to this week's version...
I've kept the rules simple and few, so everyone will feel free to dive in.
1. Choose 3 items each from the Resources and Tools lists.
2. Explain how you built your virtual project.
3. Pass the challenge along to someone else so we can swap as many ideas as possible. Who knows, they just may have the solution you need to a pesky problem or a suggestion that fits your situation like a glove!
4. Use #diyragtag so we can find your post. Feel free to post a link in the comments, too.
Here's an example:
RAGTAG RESOURCES - Pick Three
Two 2x8 Boards, 8 ft. long ~ Old Window
A Dozen Bricks ~ A Large Plastic Tarp
TOOLS - Pick Three
- Hammer ~ Saw ~ Drill ~ Shovel ~ Cart ~ Ax ~ Wedge
Trowel ~ Staple Gun ~ Post Hole Digger - T-Post Driver
Your choice on power or hand tools. Fasteners are freebies.
PROJECT: COLD FRAME
Use the saw to cut the boards in half, making 4' lengths, 8" wide.
Use the hammer & some nails to make a 4'x4' square box that is 8" tall.
Place the box over plants to extend the growing season by protecting them from frost/freezing.
Put the window on top of the box to make a mini green house out of it.
Use the bricks as needed to adjust for venting and/or raising the height of the box and/or the window to accommodate plant height.
Use the cart to haul your harvest to the kitchen.
I will keep an eye on this site and see whats next. sounds like fun :)
Thanks, @warpedweaver! Feel free to take a crack at it, too. I'm looking at it like a big puzzle game - like Lego's for Homesteaders and Gardeners. My building blocks are a little unconventional, though, which is where the 'ragtag' description springs from.
Good luck to @amberyooper. Have fun with this project.🐓🐓
Were redoing my son and daughters room currently
Miter saw, nail gun, paint brush.
Moulding, trim, paint, and caulk.
This may not fit exactly what you're looking for, but we've moved inside with our projects as it's too cold currently to work on anything outside.
Blue is new wall color, wall paper on the ceiling (grey color you can barely see), and fancy trim and moulding above all doors and windows we put up ourselves. Working on my daughters room now.
You went above and beyond the challenge and are actually DOING the work! Looking awesome, by the way. Love the combo of colors, too. (Side note - I get the working on inside jobs right now. I live in NW Indiana, too. ;~D) I'm betting your daughter is enjoying the spiffy new look.
My little exercise is more like mental gymnastics to help occupy our time 'til we can get back outside. Consider it a puzzle game... fitting parts together to make something new and/or useful. Feel free to take a run at it yourself as it's open to whoever wants to play.
Interesting challenge, I'll have to give this some thought.
You've got the skills, so the outcome is bound to be good. ;~P
