Although buying organic fruit & veg is desirable, in reality many people simply can't afford it.  But when we eat non-organic produce, we're getting a dose of pesticide residues as well.  Yuk.  So how do we minimise our unwanted pesticide intake?

One of the most important things is understanding that some plants absorb more chemicals than others, and it's almost impossible to 'clean' them, because the chemicals are not only on the outside, but inside too.  These fruits & veg are known as the 'dirty dozen' and are the ones to avoid, or buy organic instead if possible.  This is particularly important when giving produce to children, whose developing bodies and immune systems are more vulnerable to the harmful effects.

Others are easier to clean, and you can do this by giving them a really good soak and scrub with detergent (make sure to wash the detergent off properly though!)  Simply rinsing them under water isn't sufficient to wash away the residue.  Once the fruits/veg are washed you can even feel the difference... Many of us are so used to chemical-coated fruits & veggies that we don't realise they're not supposed to feel that way!

For a sore throat try making a homemade natural concoction rather than reaching for the commercial and synthetic products.  You can do this easily by mixing cayenne pepper and sage (to give temporary relief from pain), salt (a mild antiseptic to promote healing) and boiling water, and gargling with it as often as needed:

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

2 tsp dried sage

1/2 tsp salt

8 fl oz boiling water

I can't think of anything better for the soul than doing something kind for another person.  Reaching out with love.

In this increasingly busy world we can often find ourselves struggling to accomplish all the things on our 'to do' list, and it can really stress us out.  So if a friend, family member or neighbour offers to pick up some groceries, mow the lawn, help us out with some research, pay a bill (no an IOU but a gift I mean!), or entertain our children whilst we do our weekly accounts... it's all invaluable, and often more appreciated than if we'd showered them with luxurious gifts!

And how wonderful it feels to do a 'good deed'.  Surely gives us a better night sleep than if we think and do only for ourselves.

EXTRACTS FROM "#1: An Interview with Cannabis Coach @rebeccaryan

How long have you been a cannabis coach, and what lead you to this line of work?

... I was successfully granted a medical license to use cannabis plant medicine by my country’s current elected government (Canada)... almost 3 years ago.  Evolving into the role of a cannabis coach was part of coming out of the cannabis closet (totally) for me.

I had been using cannabis to treat an autoimmune disease... This gave me a solid knowledge base and because I had 8 years of personal use which translates to experience logged, I thought that the least that I could do was give back to the cannabis culture. That’s when I really started helping others to successfully enhance the quality of their lives with this plant too.

What first made you aware of the medical/healing qualities of the plant? Do you use it yourself, and how do you take it (ingest, vape, smoke, topical, etc)?

In 2007, after reading that some people were having great success using cannabis to heal their gastrointestinal tracts from a syndrome called “Leaky Gut” and put their autoimmune diseases into remission, I decided to try it and see what would happen with my own body. I started by eating RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) or Fully Extracted Cannabis Oil in small micro doses (about ½ the size of a grain of rice at a time) sometimes more than once a day.  At the same time; I paired the concentrated extract with a high plant based, high fat, low glucose, eating lifestyle.

To this date, I’ve never suffered another attack of MS (that I know of).

Now, I eat cannabis, vape it, smoke it (on occasion), use it topically and as a suppository (on occasion).

You regularly post cannabis-infused recipes... What kinds of foods are best for adding the herb to (for taste, absorbtion, etc)?

Cooking with cannabis has a few facets to it. First of all, the buds and the leaves around the buds are where the majority of the plant’s medicine resides. These buds and the sugar leaves need to be decarboxylated before they can be infused or suspended into any food items (- successfully - this activates them.) Then, whatever medium this (activated) cannabis is going to be infused into, must contain fat. This is so that the medicinal compounds can be absorbed into the body. Beyond that from a culinary perspective, you can either conceal the taste of the pungent herb (by using other herbs and spices) and try to bury it as deeply as you can.

A homemade concoction for sore throats? You mean like maybe juice of any fruit or?
I've never seen those type of bread, they look delicious though.
And well amazing blog content yet again.

Thank you! I appreciate your support @josediccus :-)

I included a recipe there for a homemade sore-throat remedy... cayenne pepper, sage, salt & boiling water. It works! :-)

Great recipes and I will definitely have to try the scone one first.
Thank you for sharing these awesome recipes.

Thank you! They are the best GF scones I have ever made :-) But if you don't need GF, I have an even better scone recipe I'll be posting soon! Finally made my finest scones ever and I'm very pleased about it!!!

Always a pleasure to read your magazines, thank you for the concoction, I have all the ingredients as staples, didn't know that cayenne pepper helps with a sore throat, will try the next time in need :)

Thank you @street.yoga, I appreciate that. Yeah, cayenne pepper is a wonderful spice! You know it's also good for when you get a little cut (a little one, not a big gash) you can sprinkle some cayenne pepper onto it and it stops the bleeding! Doesn't sting or anything. And it's wonderful for sprinkling onto plants in the garden to deter ants :-) There - a couple tips for future reference! :-)

Wow you are a walking Library of Alexandria! I for sure will test the effects of cayenne pepper on ants!

Haha... It works a treat!
