Naked (Freewrite #28: Artichoke)

Freewriting

The prompt for today's freewrite is artichoke. The inspiration might not be as evident, until the last paragraph. Today my brain was acting a bit slower, so I think it's slightly shorter than usual; entertaining nonetheless.

Naked

She dressed up, all nice and fancy. Jewelled, a queen of material possessions. Her skin was smooth and lushious, rich like chocolate. All he wishes for was to take a bite. Her looks were stunning, ruffled clothes - an emperess. He was lured to her castle, stripped, naked, thrown onto her bed. In front of him, she unzipped and got unclothed.

Amazed, the grace that lies within the beautiful shell. Seductively, she walked to him, where he was eager. She laid her body onto his. His mouth was salivating; he still wishes to take a bit off her appetising skin. So, he does. He eats her heart like it was made for consumption. He ate her all up, and then, she was gone. Her outer leaves lay on the floor, abandoned.

He fled the crime scene when he came back to his sense. He knew he did wrong, even though it felt so right. At home, anxious, he got out an artichoke and stared at it. If something can look so delicious on the outside, does it not invite you to eat its inside too? His favourite pizza toppings were artichoke hearts after all.

My new poetry collection, Welcome to the Sombre Days, is published as paperback on Amazon and ebook on Kindle. Each day, I am sharing another poem from the book on Steemit. Here are the available parts so far:

Almost has a vampire, or Silence of the Lambs feel to it. A little spooky but the logic is there - why consume the outer layers when you can peel them back and tuck into a delicious heart? Lol...

Also, if you do not want your heart to be eaten, don't portray yourself as something delicious. In the heat of the moment, the person won't look back and analyse, but it was not the heart that looked the prettiest. They will eat it up before thinking twice! hahaha

Haha, that's really amazing! And I could totally see the syrup jumping in until he started to eat the heart! ;)

I'm not sure how syrup and artichoke would taste together - I am not willing to try!

Well, I agree, me neither. But in my defense - until he ate the heart I hadn't figured he was making out with an artichoke ;)

It was never stated that he was ;) I leave that up for interpretation. The true inspiration was that as humans, we tend to try to dress up, put on makeup and look our best - so this unlucky woman looked delicious. When we take everything away, it is us and our hearts, and if we attract people by looking appetising, we are inviting them in to eat our hearts (metaphorically).

Thank you, that's so true - and how you approached today's prompt is really interesting! I love how everyone has a unique inspriration when creating stories, "even" if we're starting with the same prompt. Kind of my motto is "There's a million ways to tell one story" because everyone has (at least) one unique perspective on what appears to be the same story - and hearing, reading, etc. a story is again a unique way of understanding or/and interpreting it.

Indeed. And that is why I love poetry, especially when I leave it more abstract. I realised that I can do that easily with the freewrites too. I do want to try to write longer fictional stories eventually, but I need a good moment to start.

You should absolutely do that when you feel the moment's right. I'm kind of a patchwork writer when it comes to longer stories, depending on how I'm feeling and "getting into the story". And sometimes it turns out one scene (or poem, but I don't think I'm really good with poems) was all there is to a story, sometimes the story is literally epic. It's awesome that we can do all this here, not depending on editors or certain numbers of pages that have to be printed.

I do like to edit my stuff out, though. Especially if I want a curie in the future hahaha. I do want my best to come out online, so I have a good 'reputation'. Maybe I am an over-achiever, but I won't settle down until I get that damn curie! hahaha

A little bit of everything in there! Great job with the prompt! So unique!!

Thank you :) It was fun!

Very very nice. I would have added a gif of Dr. Hannibal's staring at Jodie Foster through the bars... really on my chords stuff, more of this! :-P

I have never watched that... so... stares

Nicely worked.. I found this a very tough prompt, but you worked it masterfully.. Well played..

Most prompts aren't that hard. You can take literal aspects, like farming, cooking or eating, or metaphorical ones like I have done. Let your mind be free - it always thinks.

Yes, very true. I do still find some prompts easier than others though.. Artichokes don't resonate with me hugely, but I managed to come up with something :o)

Being tempting carries the risk attracting those with dangerous appetites. A fantastic freewrite!

You put it in such a nice phrase!

Oh my, I did not see this coming! Nice job, @poetrybyjeremy

On another note. Be careful sharing pieces of you book on Steemit. I was told by another writer here who was doing that that Amazon could put your book price at $0.

I'm aware of how Amazon works. It's usually when they can download or find the whole book for free, which is a bit different on steemit since it's shared on separate posts. If they decide to put it for free, I don't really mind. I'm not going to earn a lot of money anyway. The paperback cannot be listed for free, definitely, as that is unique and can only bought through Amazon. With this work I am looking to build my name and provide quality content that people can relate to :)

Thank you for the advice.

Amazing. AHMAZING. I love the touch of morbid and erotic you have going... two of my favorite things to write.

LOVE it

Also, I'm here to deliver today's prompt as well Daily Prompt #140

YAY NEW PROMPT! I was about to write something for your contest, but I suppose i will do that later. Already got a small plan brewing :D

Glad you love this :D

Arghh - he better knew that he did something wrong.
What a painting with words you gave us!

I guess I will never look at artichokes the same way... puts more artichoke hearts on his pizza
