Creamed Chipped Beef ~ SOS ~ Sh*t on a Shingle Recipe
This creamed chipped beef meal , or more commonly known as Shit on Shingle, was a common meal in the military. It can be served at breakfast, lunch or dinner. A definite comfort meal. See the video recipe at the end of this post.
INGREDIENTS:
8 oz. chipped dried beef
2-2 1/2 cups milk
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 Tbsp. butter
4 Tbsp. flour
Roughly chop dried beef into 1/2 to 3/4" pieces.
In a pan on medium heat add butter and flour. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly add milk. Add Worcestershire sauce.
Turn heat up to medium high. Stir until sauce thickens.
Add chipped dried beef and stir to combine. Add more milk if you want a thinner consistancy.
Taste for seasonings. Cook for one minute to heat beef through.
Serve over toast, biscuits, noodles or potatoes. Enjoy.

I had not heard SOS since I lived in VA lol. I actually used to live right near Chambersburg PA around the Mason Dixon line back in 2000. My old room mate used to love this and introduced me to it at a local breakfast place we used to go to. Needless to say it put quite the pounds on me after eating it a few times per week for breakfast lol.
