This Is How You Build Will Power - Day 3 Habits Challenge

in #fitness7 years ago

Whatsup people!

Today's habit is COLD SHOWERS.

Even though this is not a new habit for me I still wanted to talk to you about it.

I've been taking cold showers for almost 2 years now. I start with cold water for ~15 seconds and at the end 2 more cycles of cold water for another 15-30 seconds. Finish with cold water!

The list of benefits goes as follows:

- Builds willpower, discipline, and emotional resilience;

That's a big one for me. I don't think there is a better way to train that. Cold water brings you to the present moment like nothing else. To me, it feels like I'm zooming in from my thoughts to reality - instantly. When you take a hot shower, you can afford to think about random shit million dollar ideas. But as soon as you flip the switch, suddenly you realize you can't breathe, your body is going nuts. All you can think of is how to control the breathing if you want to stay longer than 2 seconds under cold water.

- Reduces stress, increases alertness;

- Moisturizes the skin;

I'm a walking dessert. My face is always crumbling, its annoying as hell. But cold seems to do the trick... or so I think. I finally calmed my ego and started using moisturizing cream too. Smooth criminal.

- Stimulates weight loss;

Basic idea is that your body spends more energy to warm itself up after cold immersions.

- Increases testosterone, boosts fertility and improves blood circulation;

etc.,

Wim Hof is one of the reasons why I got into cold immersions. Check it out when you got time.

When I was in high school, my classmate offered me to go to a lake and swim. The date was - 19th of January. On this day, supposedly all the stars align and the water crystallizes, making it holy. Whatever.

Like a typical rebel teenager, I did not tell my parents.

Little did I know that my breath would be taken away. It feels like a mini panic attack. Not that I know how a panic attack feels like but I was hyperventilating intensely. It took me a couple of seconds to calm down and i stayed in the water for a good half a minute.

(Dug up this video from an old account. We speak in Russian, but you don't need to hear to see that our shorts were COMPLETELY frozen)

As soon as I came home I told my parents and the next day my dad did the same thing.

To this day he does it every year, crazy how habits work sometimes.

That's it for today. Stay tuned for more content!

I apologize for the delay. Rendering failed me 7 times in a row, I just didn't want to upload half-finished video.
