June 19th -- Steemit Ramble #160 -- Curating Great Posts for You

in #curation6 years ago

Once again, it has been a while since I did a Ramble. The damn clock some days just wont move slow enough. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. STEEM has been drifting down the last several weeks. Along with it comes the inevitable postings about the death of the platform or some variation thereof.

Here’s the thing. The platform activity moves up and down with the price of STEEM. The price of STEEM moves up and down with the other crypto markets and they have been running in the red for weeks as well. As I write this today Bitcoin is moving towards $6800USD. On Sunday evening it was $6300USD. STEEM on Sunday evening was $1.55, right now it is $1.67. Do you see the correlation?

Crypto markets move up and down, fiat markets move up and down. The sky is not falling and the platform is not in its death throes. Relax and keep on posting.

Yes, I said posting. When the market is down, it actually is a good time to post. Not crap, and maybe not long time consuming posts. But good content. Yes, I know, you’ll be earning smaller amounts right now. When STEEM moves up, those small amounts will grow in value. Now, I write this with the assumption you’re here for the long term growth. If you’re here for short term gain, well, you may want to reconsider that approach. The platform is a long game if you want to grow.

How to Navigate the Gateway to the Peer Review Queues

I’ve talked about The Writers’ Block discord before. I highly recommend participating if you are serious about learning the craft of writing. A great group of people there who support each other in the learning process. One of the ways of working on improving is to submit pieces for peer review. Here @thewritersblock takes you through how to get into the process.

"Can I get a Witness?" - @derangedvisions witness announcement

I’ve seen @derangedvisions around the platform for a while now. I’ve seen some great posts from him and his willingness to help and support not only the veterans community but also other communities on the platform. It’s great to see him deciding to step up and offer his service as a witness. If you have a vote available, I’ll recommend using it here.

“Why don’t you cut your hair & get a real job!” | A Message About Kindness

@hobotang shares how he could have responded to a verbal attack about his hair length with kindness rather than rebuttal which is our first instinct. He muses about the value of practicing kindness rather than shouting. Words worth exploring, considering and embracing.

A Snook Ramble ~ Ulog 22

Anyone who follows @snook will soon learn she will deliver the often unexpected. You’ll get to laugh a lot and occasionally be moved by her writing about serious things. She’s always honest and direct but not without kindness. If you read nothing else in a day, check out her Ulog entry, it’s always interesting.

Remedy for: "I have nothing to post about..."

@thekittygirl shares a post which needs to be bookmarked and checked back in with often. She not only lists some ideas for post topics but also provides a guide of different posting challenges which have made the rounds here on the platform. You’re never to late to participate in those challenges and get another round of them going.

Read to Write: How Reading Makes You a Better Writer

@therosepatch covers a topic which comes up with surprising regularity at The Writers’ Block, reading. Well actually, lack of reading. Always surprises me when I see someone who wants to be a writer state they don’t read. Would you like to explain to me how you can write content for other people without reading what others have written? I’m a little biased as the concept of not being a reader is pretty foreign to me. I was raise in a house where reading was not only normal but expected.

@therosepatch explores the importance of reading in order to write well. She also looks at the topic of reading disabilities. Even if you don’t want to be a writer, reading in the information age is important. Not everything can be learned through videos and audio files.

Writers' Workout #10: Showing Instead of Telling

One of the channels over at @thewritersblock is devoted to writing exercises. You can start working on the exercises at any point. The purpose is to explore various aspects of writing through writing exercises. This post shares the most recent exercise. If you want to try it out, join discord.

Eternity -2

@tasauver had to take a break from the platform for a bit due to health. He’s back and brings with him his breathtaking photographic skills. Well worth checking out.

Humble Pie

The latest from the wit and wisdom of @battleaxe as she shares with us the recipe for a perfect humble pie to chew on while we explore this platform.

About the Steemit Ramble

The Steemit Ramble is a manual curation project written by @shadowspub since August 2016. She scours the blockchain to locate and share the best posts so you don't have to. Every day many quality posts disappear on the blockchain leaving their authors frustrated they aren't seen and readers just as frustrated trying to find them. This curation project brings readers and authors together.

How You Can Participate?

As hard as she works, @shadowspub doesn't find all the best. You, as a reader, will find posts that have been missed and really should be seen. You can take a part in bringing these posts to light and earn a share of the post they are published in.

The Steemit Ramble has it's own discord called, Steemit Ramble. Here you can nominate posts you've found and think belong in the Ramble.

How to Nominate a Post

  1. Read How I Manually Curate to give you an idea of what I'm looking for in a post. This covers the formatting, the quality of the writing is just as important.
  2. When you find a post visit the Ramble discord and submit it to the #nominate-someones-post channel by writing a short nomination

It's that easy. I review each submission. Those I select will receive credit for the nomination, their nomination will be part of the entry in the Ramble and they will receive a portion of the SBD earned when the post pays out.

Supporting the Steemit Ramble Curation Project

In addition to reading and upvoting the Steemit Ramble, you can support the project and the authors featured in it by:

  1. Delegating even as much as 25 SP to @steemitramble -- this will increase the voting power of the account when it votes on those curated. Delegating is like loaning me some of your Steem Power so I can vote on others posts with a larger vote.

  2. Join the curation trail on SteemAuto and then join the curation trail. The trail is called Steemit Ramble
