America's 1889 “Land Rush” and how it relates with Crypto today.

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

There was a time in the US in which there were so much land and so few people, the government decided to just give it away, with certain conditions and with impressive and very curious results.

Land Rush... Or is it Crypto Rush?

capture.png

These Land Rush were obviously free, there were a few in which the land was sold to the best bid, or given away using a lottery system. In some cases, the funds were distributed among the different indigenous native tribes, because they were the previous owners of those lands.

Real picture from the Land Rush

There were several Land Rush between 1889 and 1895, but the most important one was the *Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889". Around 50.000 people were lined up (in which I assume was one of the longest human line of all times). And at 12pm of April 22nd of 1889, all these people raced their horses and tumbrils, in order to catch the flags that represented each parcel covering about 8,000 square kilometers (4,970.97 square miles).

The spectacle must have been amazing, and in a way, touching. Because people from all over the world went there to participate on this event, a lot of times without not even a penny in their pockets, hoping to find a better life for themselves and their families.

Tom Cruise racing to get those Cryptos... whoops I mean Flags!

And by the way, the movie “Far and Away”with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, makes some references about this historic event.

Among the curiosities of this historic event, is that some people managed to hide near the flags days before the initial beep (or shot, in this case), and then pretended they were “tired” for being the first one grabbing the flags. Obviously some of those cheaters were captured and this generated all sort of legal battles against them.

Another curiosity is that, in less than 12 hours after starting this event, there were 2 cities with 10,000 citizens (at the time) being founded, these cities are Oklahoma and Guthrie.

The growth rate was so fast, that in about 2 weeks there were already some improvised schools for children, and in about a month after the Land Rush Oklahoma City already had 5 banks and 6 newspapers. Source

The government goal for doing this was to accelerate economic growth to expand America’s prosperity, and they certainly achieved that goal because this event ended up attracting a lot of entrepreneurs from another countries, and eventually establishing in America and help that nation become the most powerful in the world.

And why is it related to crypto?

Because right now we are seeing the exact same thing, with the only difference that instead of land with flags we have the crypto space, and all of the different projects being developed and competing with each other in order to be the first to satisfy every need there is on the market.

And of course, there is all the consumers like us trying to catch the most valuable coins with the hopes of it being a real winner.

We could say that right now we have a “Crypto Rush”, right under society’s noses, and it seems almost no one is aware of it, at least not yet. The spectacle is again, historic.

And the growth in prosperity can be even larger that the one created with the Land Rush.

We are lucky to be one of the few enjoying it and participating in it.

Do you think Crypto is in a way, mirroring the historical Land Rush?
