Break the habit!

Some of you have responded to me with issues you feel you are facing concerning taking on a 22 day challenge.

For starters, to that I say the reason it’s 22 days is to break the habit!
It’s psychologically proven that we need time to reverse a habit we’re used to engaging in (and a large percentage of the population relies on meat and dairy products for their food.)

While I understand your concerns, my goal is to have you feeling your best and my personal and professional experience show that what we eat impacts how we feel, look and act. So, that said, I believe the best way for me to help is through the stomach!

It seems that for a lot of you, the challenge is cheese. That's an easy one for me because my blog has lots of vegan cheeze recipes that will surely get you by while you ease through the 22 days (and hopefully beyond!)

Speaking of that, you have to try this nacho cheeze! If that's not inspiring, I give up!

It worked for me!

I keep telling you this but I want to really drive it home, I used to scoff at people who told me to change my diet.

"Ya right!" I'd say to them. "No chance am I giving up the food I love, I'd rather die!"

Well, the me now wishes the me then was a little bit less stubborn because that passion and drive to maintain my eating habits has transformed into a world of experimentation in the kitchen and cultivated a love for making the food I eat that I never knew I had!

I know I am at my best now, that is the best I have ever been yet. But every day I am getting better and better and that’s the feeling I want to share with you!

I posted these 5 helpful tips back in January with Veganuary going on. Given the fun challenge I am throwing now, I think that they might come in super handy for those of you interesting in entering!

So if you’ve read my challenge, you know it was inspired by Beyonce asking her 113 million fans on Instagram to go Vegan with her for this challenge. This kind of request from a hugely influential idol like the Queen herself, is having incredible impact!

It's not just the former Destiny's Child songress that's causing a ruckus. Did you know that celebs like Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth (”The Hunger Games”), Ariana Grande , Ellen, James Cameron (director of Avatar), Sia, and even Stevie Wonder have adopted a plant-based diet, acting as inspiration to the world and the growing movement as a whole! 1

“Becoming vegan has been one of the most positive changes I have ever made in my life. Not only for my passion for animal[s] but for my outlook, mind, body and soul. All the necessary nutrients, proteins, and amino acids for the body’s sustenance can be found in vegetables, grains, nuts and rice milk.” - Sheridyn Fisher (former Maxim model)

You all know me, (and if you don't you soon will <3) I am a huge fan of my vegan lifestyle (I wouldn't change it for the world!) I LOVE how I feel, love how I look, love what I eat, love what I make... did I say love what I eat yet?

See the recipe here!

Becoming vegan opened up so many doors for me! I learned to love food in a new way. I began making my own and grew so much creatively from that experience. I became so obsessed with food that I started studying nutrition and coaching others soon after finishing my courses.

Nothing makes me happier than when I can share and inspire others, helping them change their lives as well!

You know, before changing my own diet, I was lethargic, grumpy, bitchy, lifeless and depressed... so sick that I didn't even want to get out of bed.

That being said, knowing how much positive change I was able to receive and wanting to share that, I also never push or attack others who might not feel the same way I do.

I know we are all different and I know this is a process! We all had our own upbringings, cultural programming, familial expectations and rituals... I totally get it. BUT if you're sitting around on the fence thinking "I wonder how I could TRY to go vegan" well, my friends, I am here for all of that and that is why I started #eatlikeasuperstar! Let me share with you some tips that I hope will help!

Without Further Ado: Here are 5 Ways to Help You Go Vegan (And WIN!)

• #1) Find YOUR cause.

liam.jpeg

Not a cause, not everyone else's cause. YOUR CAUSE!

I mean what makes you want to do this?

Seriously it needs to be emotional and honestly, I don't even care if your reason is because you want the SBD I'm offering or you just want to tell people on IG that you're doing it, if you're doing it, you're doing it and you're getting a high five!

However, I caution. If you're doing it for a superficial reason or as some sort of test to yourself it may not stick so if you're serious about trying to make the switch, it's got to come from a deeper level.

Obviously my hope is that with the 22 day challenge, you'll have such positive results you end up sticking with it!

At this point, I suggest documentaries that might inspire a little kick. My favorites are "What the Health"and "Cowspiracy" both by an amazing director whom I have gotten the pleasure of hanging out with here in Bali. I strongly suggest those films. I would also try "Forks Over Knives" which was the first doco I watched on the topic (funny enough it was when I was in the middle of my escapades in DR that I'm always telling you about!)

Once you give some of those informational vids a go, you might feel a little bit more push in your passions :)

IG is a great source for inspiration as well! My whole feed is just pictures of insanely delicious food and hot vegans showing it off. It helps, trust me! <3

• #2) Find a buddy!
best couple.jpeg

You can get these really cute shirts on Etsy here!

Oh yes, this is just like going to the gym!

We as humans LOVE to eat together so if you have someone who will eat what you're eating with you, you are already half way there.

Many of my clients give up because their spouse, partner or friends end up luring them back to old eating habits. It's OK, no one is going to punish you or think poorly of you. Making a change is hard but having a strong, supportive network makes it easier and more fun and in this case, you don't want anyone breaking you or else you won't be able to win the 100 SBD!

#3) Find the foods you already love and either veganise them yourself or get a veganised version!

chocolate cake edit.jpg

Chocolate mousse cake anyone? Here is the recipe!

This part was crucial to me being a food addict. When I was in my weaning off stage (the part where you're eliminating animal products from your life) I craved things that I normally don't even eat like sausage, lasagna, meatballs, meat sticks... and a whole bunch of other crazy things as my emotions stirred from the change in my lifestyle. It's a control measure. Change is hard but change is good. Power through.

In countries like Europe, Canada, Australia, USA etc finding meat substitutes is getting increasingly easier and easier to find. Leonardo DiCaprio put his foot behind the American company Beyond Meat believing plant-based to be our future. See my post about Vegan Burgers here!

I have been all over the world and if you look, you can always find something to eat. It's putting in the effort that will save the day. When in doubt, take to the internet!

#4) Use Apps

happy cow.png

I use apps like Happy Cow and Trip Advisor to find restaurants around me especially, when I am traveling. Happy Cow is great because it gives you choices such as vegan, vegetarian and even stores to choose from then lists them in order of how far away they are from you. No excuses like there were no options... It's just not true these days!

I even use the apps (including google maps) to figure out where the restaurants are before I book a place to stay, that way I know I will be able to get the food I need!

Always be sure to clarify with the waiter/server and have him/her ask the chef to be sure there are no animal products including butter, milk, yogurt, cream, chicken broth etc!

If all else fails, I keep tons of snacks on me whenever I am traveling in case of an emergency.

PS: Many big airlines offer vegan meals now. You're welcome. (Just be sure to order in advance!)

#5) Don't Put Too Much Pressure On Yourself!
pandadog.jpeg

I will tell you something. The first time I tried to go vegan, I only lasted for about 8 months and then I cracked and convinced myself I could eat eggs and cheese... then my naturopath told me I should try some sustainable, organic meat as well sparingly and so for the next 6 months I would dabble in all of those listed.

I was convinced I was missing something. In my mind I looked at giving up meat as a loss. That was what ended up leading to my failure. This is why I am telling you of all the amazing substitutions and ideas that can come in and save the day! I wish I had known then what I know now!

It was my second attempt that I took more seriously, was more prepared for and that stuck and has been giving me incredible success. This time my attitude is what I am gaining: glowing skin, long, healthy hair, energy, drive, gusto, passion, happiness, love... and let me tell you, I am kind of more committed and loyal to those things than a slab of meat on my plate.

One step at a 22 day time ;)

OK, so let's see what we can do! You've got until APRIL 8 to enter if you want to give it a try! I hope these tips and little background story give you the push to give it a go :)

Somehow we all suppose to be vegan.
Vegetables, fruits, cereals should all be our diet.
Meat is a different beast.
I have tried to take meat out of my diet it works.

Hi @zeugen great to hear that you've benefited from taking meat out of your diet. I really believe a lot of healing can come from our foods and it starts from foods from the earth :)

Hi! This is my entry, I accepted the challenge! Yes, I'll Do It I will start from April 8 to 30 😏

Great! Thanks for sharing this @paolapapoly :) I am so excited to see you entering (I was just traveling, sorry I am a bit late responding :)) I'm going to check out your post now <3

I might want to make this as a vegan cause when my parents move over to my new place at the end of the year, encouraging them to eat a vegan healthy food life, and maybe learn to make these and treat my diabetic Nephrotic syndrome survivor brother.

If I would have a cause, I would definitely have a cause named after "Family health race cause"

Since my mom no longer can take eggs, I am thinking ways that is both Asian and egg-free food for my mom (and my dad who is learning to consume plant protein).

Unfortunately I am in the stage of packing and moving until end of May. lol... can I state my cause and only start in June?

Well, lucky for you I visit your city a lot so maybe I can help you shop or work on some recipes even if you start to really get going! :)

I can't extend this out too long because it could get out of control but depending on how well it goes, I may do another similar challenge again! I always run #veganwednesday so you could start there once in while to practice! ;)

I saw in the regular stores lots of soy meats. I was curious to try them but wasn't sure they were non GMO. I'll let you know what I find this visit! I'd love to help you and your family heal <3

I am doubting that they are non GMO though @heart-to-heart , but oh, no worries on the competition! My parents are only coming at the end of the year while my mom has her out patient cum recovery in end of June, so before they move over, once my new place is ready you can always hop by my place with your tips and tricks and I get to learn from you first hand too haha...

Right now I just need to get my keys and my furniture set up first... haha.

I will try to check your recipe out and see if I can pimp it to a more Asian taste as my dad is still very Asian and he prefers the old fashion rice and vegetables; but I'd love to try the quiche which looks really interesting, not to mention the chocolate moose cake in Avocado form!

YES you go girl!! The whole world is going vegan :D.
I just can't stop loving your competition :)

Thanks @nicoleslife :) It's just getting started so I am really excited to see what happens!

I can't wait to cut 10kg off my weight.

Great! I love the enthusiasm @trendyevents! I do have to say though, going vegan doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose weight, especially right away. Yes, many people do have this positive side effect but it shouldn't be the only motivator since it can take time to lose a large amount of weight. I'm excited to see you start to heal and feel your best though! Let's see what we can do :)

Yea I totally agree with you dear! A VEGAN lifestyle and diet really changes the way to walk through life and how we feel and look. Same for me! And the best thing is that you will have so so much more energy after a certain time, that was the greatest change for me. I was always feeling so tired before when I was on a vegetarian diet (that dairy), and I am also a lot more in balance wity my emotions and thinking since I went 100% vegan. Love to see more people trying this out and taking part o your challenge!💕💕😊🙌

That was the same for me (especially emotionally) once we take out all the artificial hormones present in meat and animal products, it's crazy to see the effects it can have on the body, letting our natural systems balance out ;) <3 I'm so happy to hear you've had these positive side effects, must be why you're our vegan ninja ;)

Haha love you!💃💃❤😘

I like this your post thanks you for sharing @heart-to-hert 😘😘

Think is was Miley rubing off on Liam!

i really very like to see and i m feeling hungry to see your post.

wow. nice post maam.. godbless! upvoted and followed :)
