100% SBD Give-Away 0023. Prize pool estimated at 10 SBD and growing (Over 72 SBD given away already!)

in #contest7 years ago

SBDgivaway.png

Since the original idea behind these giveaways was to help redfish and minnows, and with the proliferation of autobots in the system, I believe we need a method of building REAL community. As long as I have enough Steem Power, I will be up-voting those who participate in these weekly contests so that at minimum participants will receive increased rank and a small amount of Steem. If each participant ALSO up-votes the others here, we will form a small community of little fish helping each other out! Participating here involves actually reading the post and making a reply, which is what the platform is asking us to do.

Each week's contest will require entrants to select a number between 111 and 666.

TextDivider1.jpg

How this contest works

  • The contest is intended for lower-ranking members who could use the money (whales and dolphins are encouraged to upvote and increase the prize pool and/or comment rewards. Your support is greatly appreciated!).
  • The contest will run for 1 week and close on Nov. 15, 2017.
  • Entrants will select a number between 111 and 666 and in the replies to this post they will write, "ENTRY GUESS" followed by their chosen number. This should be the first thing they write, followed by anything they feel will add value to the post. This can be something as simple as a famous quote you copy and paste from the Internet (as long as you provide attribution), something of interest to you that you would like to share, a joke, etc.
  • The winner(s) will have guessed all 3 numbers in the correct order and if nobody guesses correctly, then at least 2 of the 3 numbers rolled by 3 6-sided dice rolls must be achieved or the prize rolls over to the following week.(NOTE that there will be no numbers 7, 8, 9 or 0). Example: Dice rolls = 456. Players guessed 152, 256, 416, 555, and 645. Guesses 256 and 416 would split the prize for each having 2 of the 3 numbers in the correct places.
  • The prize pool will consist of ALL the SBD earned by this posting PLUS a minimum bonus of 2 SBD to which 0.25 SBD will be added for each valid entry up to a maximum of 5 SBD added to the post reward. Plus the total prize pool not won previously.
  • In order to win, you MUST have upvoted the original post and written something interesting. @nnnarvaez will be awarding the most interesting comment an additional prize of a full-power up-vote at his discretion.

Upvoting this posting will increase the prize pool, so be sure to ask your friends and followers to upvote, even if they are not entering!

The winner of Giveaway #0022 (last week) will be announced in a separate posting.

A bit of background about our sponsor:

@nnnarvaez has shown that he truly cares about this platform and is doing his utmost to make this a better place by using his expertise where it will do the most good.

  • He is attempting to create incentive for people to comment on articles and actually discuss things.
  • He believes that scripts can be used to do the 'heavy lifting', freeing people to engage in more discussions. As an example of the good work he does, @nnnarvaez built the script that runs the good bot Jack.
  • He has worked with @steemcleaners to hunt down a 3,200 account bot net and protect innocent accounts.
  • He has just recently set up his own server so that he can help add blocks to the blockchain and keep Steemit running smoothly as a witness. I highly recommend voting for him as a witness.

@nnnarvaez has discovered a Canadian witness that he believes is worth supporting and recommends you also vote for @guiltyparties as a witness.
To vote for a witness, you need to be logged in with your active key, so have it handy when you are ready to vote. To vote for witnesses not in the top 50, simply insert their name into the text box at the bottom of the witness list and click on the VOTE button.

Another Sketch of mine :)

IMG_20170820_152159.jpg

My daughter was quite the anime artist, she started drawing anime in the 4th grade. She got to be quite good at it and even painted her bedroom up. I remember one year she had a very good drawing that she entered in the local county fair. The judge commented on it by "calling it unoriginal, and a copy" as he couldn't believe someone as young as her could do as well as she did. She received a ribbon for it but the remarks of the judge were a bit harsh.

Good drawing @rayne122

SDG

I would love to see your daughter's drawing.
Is she on Steemit ?

I will hunt something up. Unfortunately, even though I've tried to get both her and my son to join Steemit, they so far have not. She is currently trying to get into special effects make-up and is currently working with one of her anime buddies. You can check out their stuff on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/captainnots/?fref=ts I'm going to use your reply to try and get her to join Steemit. At least maybe I can get her to use Steemit to help with promoting her friends photography.

Yeah.. Seeing her artworks might motivate me at sketching :)
Good luck.. Hope to see her on Steemit ! :)

I grabbed some photos of her room. I suppose she was probably around 15 or 16 when she did these.

I used to know who these characters were and which series. Im going to go out on a limb and tax my feeble brain cells. I think the pointy nosed guy was Dillandeau(sp?) from Trigun? You probably know who it is please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope this will stimulate you to get back to sketching.

And thanks @happyme for getting some positive commenting responses going by way of this contest.

SDG

Wow ! Those are very nice arts.
Um.. .Actually I don't know those characters. Probably I haven't watched their animes.

Her arts have somethings I don't.
Coloring Skills, seeing through things and imagination.

I will need to work on that.
I hope she restarts her sketching. Morever, I think she has the quality of a manga artist.

Let me know what she thinks. :)
What's her age right now ?

At 16-17 age, I probably only sketched Dragon Ball Z and Naruto characters. Mostly Goku and Vegeta, Naruto and Sasuke.

She is 26 now and she still draws and I know she is talented, but for some reason, it's not her passion. I tried to encourage her to do some manga writing but to no avail.

SDG

I love where this is going!
Promotion, encouragement, mutual interests....
THIS is what I call engagement. THIS is what the platform is meant to do. I'm so very happy to see this sort of thing!!! WOOOT!! I'm stoked!

Me too!!! Fantastic!!!

I didn't even realize it :D

My vote power is low so I'll wait until tomorrow to up-vote it.
Can you tell us what this sketch is about or represents to you? Why you made it? I would enjoy seeing you get that vote trail from @nnnarvaez for best comment.

He is known as Jiraya sensei from Naruto series. It's a fanart made by someone.
I tried to sketch it myself.

Great illustration @rayne122! Thanks for letting us have a look at it. ;)

It's my pleasure.
Meeting new people is a great thing. It helps to improve my social status as well as knowledge.

Let's hope many more people like @sighmanjestah's daughter will find their time on Steemit.

Food For Thought Question

Do you think Jesus was a philosopher? Or if that's too much to think about do you have a favorite philosopher and why do you consider them to be your favorite.

I took a 1-semester philosophy course in college because my adviser thought I should get a well-rounded BS Pharmacy degree. I didn't really want to take a course that I had little interest in, but capitulated and took it anyhow. I don't really recall much of the course, but I've thought back several times over the years, as I grew older, that I should have given more attention to the course.

SDG

Jesus could have been a philosopher or even a prophet. I believe he understood that all life is connected and is part of a greater whole. When we cause harm to life we are attacking ourselves in a round-about way. Yet at the same time, we need to consume life in order to survive. It's a complicated balancing act.

Life takes us through stages where we shift our focus. I used to hate history in school. Probably because it was all about memorizing names and dates (which I'm terrible at) instead of understanding concepts. Now that I'm older and don't need to remember who did what when, I find history fascinating for the stories behind the history.

I used to hate history in school. Probably because it was all about memorizing names and dates (which I'm terrible at) instead of understanding concepts.

I hear you there. I was the same way and now I'm fascinated with history. I love reading history and looking at it(history) from all points of view and trying to get into the mindset of the times that those events happened.

SDG

i think this is one of the best explanations of truth i've found.

but beyond that, you could check out other modern awakened folks, they really are everywhere, the common man just simply overlooks them, they even get on national tv for a brief moment, everyone gets all excited and then forgets to put it into practice.

some that i'm aware of and respect:

neale donald walsch
eckhart tolle
alan watts
joseph campbell
abraham-hicks

one of the best understandings of the mind comes from buddhists, which literally is a science of the mind.

Almost 9 hours long... wow! That guy is good. He sure knows how to get his point across. I agree with his point about having to suffer enough to actually do something about it. I loved the plasticene cow dung story. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the reply @klevn, I am familiar with the names you listed, but have never come across the Anthony de Mello. I will check him out.

SDG

I've often wondered does starting a comment off with "first of all I am not a conspiracy theorist" bode well for a pleasant conversation. Ah well.

I once watched a documentary called "Caesars messiah". Now this documentary had terrible visuals and soundtrack and the usual cheap documentary crap. In this documentary they made the claim that Jesus was a character invented by the Roman empire to help pascify the Jewish regions.

The logic they use is this : the Jewish people, being people who don't like to be subjugated for obvious reasons, were just too rebellious for the Roman empire. So basically the Romans come up with a character who loves peace and teaches to turn the other cheek. Effectively cooling off an area that had high unrest.

In a period where the Romans notoriously struck out any semblance of religion in any region that didn't follow the Roman pagan religion, how did the new Testament survive? It's not a case of the Romans not being thorough enough, because they were, plenty of fires were had. Some people conclude so that maybe the religion was permitted by the Roman empire because they themselves created Christianity.

Now obviously there is more to the story than that. And I am not saying it is definitely all true, but I like a healthy amount of scepticism and am willing to listen to what anyone has to say, unless you, of course, are a flat earther, then you can please leave me alone.

"first of all I am not a conspiracy theorist"

It's a good conversation starter, "wink, wink, nudge, nudge".

Your points have merit and I thank you for bringing them into the discussion. There is no doubt history that "we" are are not aware of.

but I like a healthy amount of scepticism and am willing to listen to what anyone has to say, unless you, of course, are a flat earther, then you can please leave me alone.

I agree with your skeptical attitude, but glad that you have the ability to listen to someone else'sideas, and yes, there is a fair amount of flat-earth discussion going on.

I myself firmly believe that "we" are a sphere, revolving in space set on the back of a giant space turtle. "Wink, wink, nudge, nudge"

SDG

You're only half correct. You forgot about the 4 elephants that stand between us and the turtle

Yeah, I forgot those, lol

I've never heard this story before, but it does seem logical. Another possibility to consider.

He certainly has been positioned as a philosopher of the people. His actions and teachings certainly encouraged people to think.

Sadly, I think todays nominal Christian avoids the "actions", and a lot of those nominal Christians have interpreted his teachings incorrectly.

Hey, that reminds me of a story. I'll let you know when I get it posted.

SDG

Here is a continuation of the comment above:
https://steemit.com/life/@sighmanjestah/hey-that-reminds-me-of-a-story-5-the-night-i-felt-jesus-cry-a-true-story

@happyme, if you are following this thread and you consider this posting as a spam post, please let me know and I'll remove it. But I make the case for what you are actually trying to accomplish in the form of better dialoguing with other steemians. This post was a direct response to a comment and I think it brings value to the steemit community.

SDG

I'm actually very pleased with all the chatter that has resulted from your participation here. I'm all for supporting each other, so no problem posting the link here. I want to give up-votes to all comments made here but my vote power has dipped too low and I need to wait for it to recharge. Thanks for your contributions!

ENTRY GUESS 531. Aside from this interesting contest i found more value on what you are promoting, trying to create real community of real people rather than bots although im not against any bots or those users of bots for we cannot set aside the opportunity and the economic value it provides where most people are here for.

Thanks for your entry and comment.
It seems to be that the reality is that the vote-bots are making the bot owners a lot of money and some users are also ahead of the game if they are used carefully. However, I believe the real value of Steem is not in what you take out now, but what the value can be if the currency is mass-adopted and used as an exchange medium. However, that mass adoption isn't going to happen if people see steemit as a game of bots that is reserved for those savvy enough to make or use them effectively. So in other words, the bots hurt the potential growth of Steem. In doing that, it hurts the profits that COULD be made without them.

I keep coming back to the original concept that was presented to me when I joined the platform 15 months ago. That was that real people would read your contribution and if the content was deemed valuable there would be meaningful discussion about the topic you covered and you might be rewarded with some SBD if the content was deemed valuable by the community. Bots do not read, they don't add value in terms of meaningful discussion and they have no loyalty to anything. I see them as fake. I think removing bots from the platform, completely, would level the playing field and make the game fairer for all the participants. In my humble opinion of course.

The big issue about vote-bot use is that not everyone is here for the social aspect. Many are ONLY interested in making as much money as they can, regardless of the consequences. Some have long-range outlooks and will consider consequences, while others are just looking to make a quick buck and move on to something new. If there are enough whales that have long-range plans for this platform, then it is incumbent on them to see that the algorithms used are such that will encourage organic growth of the platform. Otherwise we may see many users leave the platform and the steem value flat-line. When that happens, the only way to make a profit is to grab from the reward pool. But if it's all the same people grabbing from the reward pool, the price of steem will drop even more because there is no new money being invested. I would really hate to see that happen.

Thanks for your fantastic comment @doughtaker. The message is loud and clear to me. Keep hanging on for the long haul.

I think that the rise of the upvote bots can be attributed to plain old economics. Specifically...

That was that real people would read your contribution and if the content was deemed valuable there would be meaningful discussion about the topic you covered and you might be rewarded with some SBD if the content was deemed valuable by the community

is how the "rewards pool market" was envisioned to work. But with folks generally hanging out in their own little communities on Steemit, circlejerking, and whatever else might be going on, curation might not have been robust as some people thought it could be. Therefore, there was inefficiency in this rewards market, and some people came up with the idea that upvote bots would be the solution to fix this inefficiency. (Afterwards, these inefficiencies still exist.)

Now, we may be reaching the tipping point where those upvote bots may be too popular, with demand/usage exceeding the supply of upvote value that some of the bots can provide. For example, bidbots -- for users to profit the total of all bids in a voting interval must be less than 75% of the bidbot's vote value. There's a site to track these numbers on some of the more popular bidbots and quite frequently I see the total bids being too high; that means all the bidders lose and only the bidbot programmer pockets most of the profits (plus maybe, if applicable, a small portion going to curators who beat the bidbot's vote). Even straight upvote bots like randowhale aren't immune -- I've been seeing some comments lately about ~0.9 SBD upvotes on 1 SBD fees; that tells me demand is too high.

The consequences of this has affected the STEEM market. Its value went from $1 to almost $1.60 in 3 days, and has since dropped to $0.90 (the lowest it's been since I joined Steemit). If the value of STEEM keeps dropping, I think we'll see more dissatisfied bot users and then bot demand will drop until some equilibrium point is reached. If that equilibrium point happens to be the price of STEEM cratering, well, that becomes an opportunity for those of us here for the longer-term. We get to buy in cheaper from people leaving because they got burned trying to make that quick buck, and heck, maybe a few of us can become whales the easier way and profit when/if the value of STEEM rebounds.

At any rate, I think the markets will sort themselves out. We just have to stay on for the entire ride.

I hope that this competition will be further developed in the next
I wish more success for all

Hi @walidsalah! You can still participate in this contest if you like.
Simple pick a 3 digit number between 111 and 666 as your "guess entry" and write a thought provoking comment or share something in the way of a picture or artwork that you have taken or made.
The whole point is to meet others and build friendships. So far, @happyme and @sighmanjestah are friends that I have met and I would like you to meet them too. ;)

555
Dina chose this but I do not know how to subscribe my girlfriend and whether there are conditions or not

I think that you can use this number as "your guess" entry but in order for it to be recognized you need to comment again with it, along with an interesting thought or a photo of some of your artwork or something that is interesting to you.
You need these two parts, put together in one comment to @happyme so that he can record your entry and we can talk about what you have shared. :)

i try my friend

Thanks for the encouragement and support. Much appreciated!

My guess is 185 @happyme.

This is a picture of a female cannabis plant that I took with a microscope at 60 x magnification. I grew this plant from seed and it's rare to see a female at 4 weeks. Usually females are not identified until the 7th week, so that makes this a special photo considering that you cannot see this with your naked eye at this young age.
Have a great day,
Rebecca

Thanks for your rare photograph. Nature is very interesting. Yours is only the 2nd VALID entry. It seems many people don't read the entire set of rules and simply post hoping for luck to be on their side. This contest is not about giving away money, but rather about encouraging people to read the post and to also read the comments and participate in a social event; Perhaps even learn something new (like from your submission).

I appreciate your participation and look forward to seeing more engagement from the rest of the community.

I completely get this concept @happyme but I did read the entire post which I think most folks are not taking the time to do for whatever reason. It is beyond me.
I'm so excited for you to meet @sighmanjestah and I was hoping that something like this would happen in terms of engagement among great minds. I will keep coming back and adding to comments to the various threads as I have time to do it.
Great job! Hopefully people will start to get the concept. :)

I'm sure you did read the entire post @rebeccaryan. That is why your entry is valid and so very much appreciated. When I read the posts of others, I often find real gems not only in the post itself but also in the responses. This is why I believe that when people do not read the replies, they often miss some really good content. I know it takes a lot of time, but eventually we find our own little niche and true friendships can result from a close set of friends that enjoy what the others have to say.

I do see quite a few others are also thinking along the same lines, so a movement has already begun! Slowly but surely, the platform will evolve into segments that will satisfy the various needs and desires of the masses. This is definitely an interesting social experiment!

I'll have to check out the profile of @sighmanjestah when I get the chance.

Hey, @rebeccaryan maybe you have a special genetic strain that matures quicker. Definitely a cool picture. Is the seed stock from a specific variety?

Hi @sighmanjestah! Great to hear from you. I am currently growing 6 different strains in my grow-room right now and I have 6 plants that have presented as female so far (and all looked like this one. The 7th hasn't decided it's gender yet and I have already destroyeded 5 males that were part of this grouping as well. This particular strain that you are looking at is called: Carmel Candy Kush (It's an Indica dominat hybrid, which is good for chronic pain.)
I'm so excited that you noticed this post from @happyme because I think the two of you will enjoy each others minds. Knowing you both somewhat...I know that you have a fair bit in common. ;)

So @rebeccaryan, what is the status up there in the Great North, now that everything is legal? I was thinking that 10/31/17 was the big day. I guess I haven't been following your blog close enough ;) Are you going to get to grow more plants now? So confusing the regs. especially here in the States. I just think that Iowa is going to be the last state to do anything positive.

SDG

We don't go legal for recreational until July 1st, 2018. So far, the gov't has told all the provinces that they have to decide how they want to distribute it for sale. In my province, it has been decided that our liquor control board is going to sell it.
In May, I registered for a medical growing license so that I could grow my own. The license is set by a person's prescription which is issued in grams per day. A person is currently permitted to grow 5 plants per gram of their prescription, indoors or 2 plants outdoors. Our regs. are confusing too!
Hopefully it will be legal everywhere in this lifetime. ;)

Entry Guess 515
Hey Guys! What do you think about this beauty? The 1951 General Motors LeSabre was styled with
abundant jet-aircraft design cues and powered
by a specially built high-compression
supercharged V-8. The LeSabre was very much the embodiment of what car-crazy kids dreamt. Wait, that's wrong; it went far, far beyond anything ever dreamt of. It was the car of the future.

That sure is an interesting looking vehicle! I can remember Cadillac and Chevrolet copying that style with the big fins at the back when I was a child. Even as a small child in elementary school, those fins made the cars look very impressive to me. The first car I bought was a 1966 Chevrolet Impala. It didn't have the big fins, but it sure was roomy! I have a picture somewhere of me and my dad both lying fully stretched out in the trunk with room to spare. Good thing the streets were not as crowded as they are now! That thing would be hard to park now-a-days.

No place left anymore for such vehicles! Too big too thirsty too inefficient too durable too unique and simply unforgettable. It is a blessing that we had the opportunity to live with them to drive them and to love them. Forever!

ENTRY GUESS 222

At this point, I have more to emote rather than say...

  1. looks at all those other entries
  2. shakes head, facepalms
  3. goes to post article which was hinted at last week

Let's see if you get more people who will actually follow directions.

Yes, the larger prize pool has brought more people to the page, but they didn't bother to read the post (or they may even use intelligent (or not so intelligent) software to skim the page for instructions and make their guess. Too bad, because even if they guess correctly, they can't win without the 2nd half of the entry requirement. It really is a shame.

Entry Guess 645

Life is a beautiful thing, it cannot be explained, it must be experienced. And even after the experience is done, we still would not agree on what had happened... isn't that wonderful? we can all enter the same situation, and each one of us finds something different about it that we take away. There is no end to the diversity, even when you think things are the same, upon closer examination you will find they are different in almost everyway.

I think we under estimate life. I don't think most people are investing their attention on what is happening around them.

But all that is changing, because we are the frog in boiling water, it is time to wake up before we become a simple meal!

Wonderful comment. Life really is different for us all. I'm learning a little bit about autistic people and they see the world a bit different than the average person.

The last 2 sentences of yours hold the most powerful message. I wonder how many will realize what those sentences really say?

Entry guess :616

I wish I had something more to contribute. There are so many people actually contributing decent stuff to this article which is good to see. Some pretty decent art, of varying types. Almost something for everyone :p

Anyone learning how to speak German? And anyone know any other good tools apart duolingo and memrise. I was recommended the hello talk app but that's just like a whole new social community to try and join. Anyone got any experience with it or something? Let me know of its worth investing time into it.

I spoke a broken German as a child and forgot most of what I did know. I just don't use it at all, so I'm losing it. As for software for learning German... sorry, I have no idea. I heard Rosetta Stone was supposed to be good for learning languages in general... they have all sorts of language packs. I had one years ago and I don't even recall which language it was for. The Ex bought it for the children and they didn't use it so later sold it for $1 at a garage sale.

If you can already speak some German, why not try interacting with the Germans on here and learn by using it? I would think that if you ask nicely, they wouldn't mind laughing correcting your mistakes.

Yeah I'm sure they would get a good laugh alright. I hope some day to move there. I'd also like to live some day in Canada. It's the only country I could ever see myself living in in the western hemisphere. I'd go on holidays in plenty of places in the Americas but Canada was the only place I think living and working there wouldn't be so bad

I have a friend in Germany. He said it got pretty bad there lately.
Here in Canada is still pretty good if you can find a decent job. Taxes are high and you don't get much for all that tax. But I still prefer it here compared to other places I've seen.

Sure don't you guys get free health care? Ireland has a lot of different taxes that go entirely to a single city while the rest of the country hasn't really developed much in like the past 10 years.

There is a rising amount of homeless refugees in our country. There are plenty of abandoned buildings that they could be put in but these buildings are still private property and are in desperate need of renovation. So not only would the only available spaces be unsuitable for them to live in, it would be illegal for them to be in them. These buildings are not in use and have been so for several years

Wow, seems like such a waste leaving buildings empty.

Health care is not exactly free here. We pay into mandatory health insurance that pays for some stuff. Then we have private insurance that pays for other stuff, or you pay when you use it. What is free is hospitalization. If you never need to go to the hospital, you don't get to use that 'free healthcare'. We also get to visit our family practitioners (doctors) for free. Any drugs they prescribe are NOT free. Dental and eye care is NOT free. Alternative medicine is NOT free. Maintaining health by getting your teeth, eyes checked is not considered healthcare I guess. Neither is acupuncture or any other holistic or alternative medicine considered healthcare. The only healthcare considered worthy is getting prescribed pharma or surgery I guess. To me that's not healthcare but rather sick-care. It seems they are not interested in keeping people healthy, but rather in treating them after they become ill. It's better than nothing, but could sure use improvement.

I don't think any government endorses alternative or holistic medicine. I do like your distinction between sick care and health care, makes perfect sense. Ireland only has sick care. Seeing your doctor is €50 euros gone and they usually tell you to come back of it gets worse

You've only done half the work necessary @umais. You also need to also provide an interesting comment or a photo or something that is interesting to you with an explanation why it is. This will let all of us have a conversation with you, potentially upvote your comment and let @happyme record your entry as complete and accurate. Right now, it cannot be recorded because you are missing the other half. I am telling you this because I would like to see you participate.
