Steem Styles: What's Your Post Post Behavior?

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

Greetings Steemians! No, that's not a typo in the title.

I'm asking you this! What is your post post behavior? You know! What do you do after you author a post? This inquiring mind wants to know!

source

How much do you care about the reaction after your creation hits the feed?

Do you watch GINAbot with bated breath to see the response to your post?

Do you continue on with your day without giving it a second thought?

You might not even have GINAbot...

Maybe you start promoting...

Do you hit discord and start dropping links?

Do you start commenting on other people's posts to draw people in to see your blog?

Speaking of comments, how do you handle your own comments?

Are you ready to respond as they come in or do you wait a while?

Do you ignore everyone and just produce content, like some I've seen?

Do you upvote first come, first serve, or best comments? Maybe favorite people first?

Is it totally random, or is there a method?

My tendency is to stay pretty close to GINAbot afterwards. I do have a weakness of seeing comments come in, and not knowing what to say. I think He/she is talking to me and I'm drawing a blank! I'll just wait a while. Then I'll wait even until the next day. This can be a bit of a problem, because I notice the level of engagement is reduced when we wait too long to acknowledge our followers. I don't really promote my post in discord anymore, as it never really worked anyway. I stopped using bidbots, and my actions following a post can be kind of random, not methodical. This is the time when I'm least likely to be looking at my feed.

You learned a bit about me, now I'm curious about you! What's your post post behavior?

Love, snowpea ❤

Thanks for asking @snowpea. I think my post, post is methodical. I don't have gina bot still trying to figure that hold process out. I have this thing for re-editing the post after posting that is the perfectionist in me coming out and somewhat the love affair I have with words.

I am constantly checking my replies so that I can comment back Replies are worth their weight in crypto to me. It is how I measure what my followers like which will either cause me to keep posting that kind of post or to stop. I also look to see who upvoted me. And when I see new people I go to their post and upvote them and check out their blog. Which is how I found this post from you. @jaynie had commented and upvoted me on a recent post and when I went to her blog and read her most recent post she mentioned you and this post so I came here and I am glad I did I will now be following you and @jaynie. Thank you for this post @snowpea

Ah yes, the editing. Me too. Forgot to add that one lol! I'll read my post over a few times and rush to edit if I find an error, hoping no one will see. Thanks for the follow, and I'm following you now too. :)

Interesting question @snowpea. For me, it depends on the post. I do use discord to promote, but only in #steemitbloggers and #teamsouthafrica. GINAbot is essential and I do keep an eye on her. In terms of responding to comments, I have seen no particular pattern. On reflection, though, I think again, it depends on the post. Some get lots of comments while others, like my most recent one, gets very few. I do, however, do my best to really engage with all comments.

I shall be dropping back to see what other people say.

Happy Friday 😁

I know what you mean about it depending on the post. Like this ones been up for an hour and I'm like give me some feedback people!

Speaking of #steemitbloggers, it looks interesting! How does one join? And happy Friday to you too! :)

Hahaha! I think that wanting feedback too much sometimes chases people away - like being too needy? Just a thought? And then, sometimes, I think it can be one of those "be-careful-what-you-wish-for" moments. Are we ever satisfied?

About #steemitbloggers: its founder is @jaynie, also a South African and Cape Townian. There is a process to join and I'm putting the link to the most recent invitation below. If it jives for you, then do the process. It's "busy" than #teamsouthafrica but has members from all over the world. Like #teamsouthafrica, its also a fabulous, supportive community of which I'm delighted to be a part. Hope you crack the nod! ;)

Hahaha! I think that wanting feedback too much sometimes chases people away

LOL maybe, and then I chase after them yelling, "Wait! Come back! TELL ME EVERYTHING!!!"

I know @jaynie. She did something kind of awesome for me today, and I know she's the founder of #steemitbloggers. That's why I wanted to rethink only belonging to one group - #thealliance. Before I thought maybe that's all I could handle.

I was thinking about joining, and then your comment comes along! Thanks so such for the info! :D

I had thought about the alliance, myself, but don't know enough about it, so perhaps your turn to share? I thought you know @jaynie. Soo............ :)

Now I really am outtahere and into my kitchen!!

I believe this is what you're looking for.

@snowpea if you are interested in joining our community hon just drop me a DM on discord. jaynie#9450 I wont harass you to go through the regular channels ;)

Awesome! I'll get in touch with you soon! :D

cool beans :)

Depends on how much time I have. Producing content is the main thing I do, then after I post if I still have some free time I will browse my dashboard and see what other people are writing, giving upvotes and commenting as I go. Like today! But usually I don't have any time, so after posting I go get on with real life. I will check comments later in the day if time allows, using busy.org to see the notifications there.

Very interesting @dbooster! I think the only wrong way to operate would be to completely ignore those who comment forever. I don't see it often but when I do it's a big turn off. Thanks for sharing!

I generally post and keep an eye on Gina. I try my best to reply to comments as soon as possible. If I get a lot of comments it can take me a few days to reply to everyone as I like to show my appreciation by upvoting them. I don't use bidbots, however I do still post promote in Discord. You never know who might pick it up :)

Interesting post @snowpea and it will be interesting to see how some other people respond.

We have a lot in common @jusipassetti! Only difference is the promoting in discord, maybe I'll start doing it again idk. Only thing I've been doing with my posts in discord is getting an upvote from minnowsupport. Thanks for your input! :)

I don’t have Ginabot it even know what this is. I post three posts most mornings and do a Ulog of the day in the afternoon or evening. One post will be Bible and the other two a photography contest or similar.
It depends on my day, but I am out, no data plan during the day. Even though I am about my normal day, I am also mindful of photo ops or something that could provide content for tomorrow. I am not usually asking for upvotes and I am not sure that dropping links at discord has impact or value. I have dropped links and also gone a couple of weeks without. I cannot detect a difference.
If i have free time I try to encourage a few people. If I notice a comment I will reply. I don’t self vote, but upvote many during the day. My power % is usually low because of this. Currently below 50%. Could be lower!
Last stat I saw I have 25% participation.
I try to go down the list of my followers and work my way through the list and go comment on their post. I also like to recognize periodically the most faithful followers. I chat on discord, but just friendly, non Steemit centered chat. There are a few that I chat with almost every day.
I am not watching any count until later in the day. Looking to see who stopped by.
Blessings!
Daddy William

You will find out about GINAbot here. Check her out. A worthwhile too. Very.

Keeping VP up is hard for me too. I don't like giving dustvotes on comments, so they are usually upvoted at 100%, killing my VP quickly.

That's amazing that you go through your followers list like that - you're doing a great job! Thanks for your comment! I see you have some @ginabot info already, but I'll tell you a little more. She's a discord bot that will send you notifications of upvotes, mentions, resteems, comments, and you can even be notified when your favorite bloggers make a post among other services - and free too. I highly recommend! If you have any other questions about her, just ask. :)

Thank you for the info on @ginabot. I us steemworld, but this sounds like it would be great to try.

I've done all of the above and now I don't know what to do, putting out the same kind of posts that once drew lots of attention but now not so much. The thing with me is I'm an artist and do what the art asks me to express as apposed to a crafts person who makes things; I never really know what is going to come out and so I have no idea what my audience is and so what can I do to promote what I do more than just keep on keeping on in the hope that enough like minded others form some kind of tribe around me which is what I've avoided all my life. A conundrum then. What is my post post behaviour? nothing changes these day, I just keep on expressing what I have to express...

Hmmm...I wish I had the answer for you. When one is brutally honest with oneself, the answer is often much clearer. Are you an introvert? As wrong as it may seem, I feel that success for many of us here is largely based on following the right etiquette. Are you part of some kind of support system or group?

Yes, introvert, depressed all my life and not in any support groups that I have no idea where to find anyway. If my work won't stand up on its own then no amount of groups is going to do it for me. Whenever I got together with others in my life I quickly learnt to shut up and never go back.

I am an introvert too. I dropped out of high school because of social anxiety and am ostracized from groups I meet in real life, but am better at socializing online. My husband just got over a depression that started last November. He stopped working and we almost lost everything because of it. I'm telling you all this because although your situation is different, I can relate to your pain.

Have you ever looked into finding a Ketamine treatment center for depression? Yes, the street drug Ketamine helps a high percentage of people with treatment resistant depression when given as infusions at a low dose. My psychiatrist said it's the fastest way to recover. There are clinics all over the US, maybe near where you live too, but it is expensive. We looked into it for my husband's depression but couldn't afford it. I encourage you to research it too.

Hope you find more successes here. <3

After I post I promote it in various channels on discord, and then I pack up and go home ( I tend to write my posts at the end of the work day from my office - fewer distractions then at home and it lets me get something out by 5pm that day).
Then I check for any comments as soon as I get home. Then I check periodically throughout the evening for more comments and reply as soon as I can. I upvote comments based on their quality.

The only time this differs slightly is thursdays and fridays as I work two jobs on those days. I finish work in the office at 5 at which point I have posted. I go home, eat dinner get changed and am out the door again by 6:30 to job 2. I finish and get home shortly after midnight so I often don't check comments until the following morning (I don't have computer access at job 2).

I just love how everyone here has a different way of doing things! You seem to have your system worked out to perfection. Sometimes I upvote best comments first, but usually first come first serve, I'm thinking of changing that to comments based on merit though. Sometimes a better one comes along and it sucks not to have it at the top. :/

I wouldn't call it perfection, it certainly doesn't feel like it lol! The weekends become a mess, especially if I get a creative block and can't think of what to do or its a busy day and I don't get the time.. like tomorrow.. its going to be a big struggle. i am going to a wedding in the afternoon and my GF was supposed to be at work in the morning (which would have given me the quiet time at home to make a post) but now she's not so that will make it difficult.
One thing that is good about how I do it is that is become an established routine in my day now so that helps :)
I tend to upvote comments as I get to them, I read and reply in order that I get them and then if its a good comment or at least better than the rest (and I have the VP available) I give it an upvote :)

It's a wonder you get anything done working two jobs and having crazy weekends - a very busy guy and hard worker!

Is your girlfriend acquainted with Steemit? Maybe if you get her into it you could spend time steeming together! ;)

I have tried but its just not her thing unfortunately.

After I hit that post button, I usually wait around about an hour waiting for comments as I begin sifting through my feed. I always make sure to have 90+% voting power so I can upvote the posts I am reading as well as the comments on my own post. However, I often get drained to quickly, like right now i went from around 97% an hour ago and am down to 78% already. Part of why I don't post daily, or I would never be able to curate any of the great posts in my feed.

I don't do discord so don't have Ginabot or groups to pitch to. I believe bidbots only make the owners and delegators to them the payouts, so don't use them.

Thanks @practicalthought for your input! Very conscientious of you to make sure your VP is in check before posting. I feel the pain of VP going too low too. Like now haha! Going to have to take a break here. Don't feel the need to upvote this comment or my last one to you, ok?

I don't do discord so don't have Ginabot or groups to pitch to.

Why not? Just curious.

Don't feel the need to upvote this comment or my last one to you, ok?

Nice try, but got to give the vote. Its how I roll, lol.

I don't do the Discord for a few reasons.

  • Stories of people being hacked using the app. I don't do any apps but Discord has some bad rep on this.

  • It feels wrong to me to need another social platform to manage a social platform.

  • Because it has more of a chat like feature, out of respect for my girlfriend I do not participate. There are wolves of both sexes prowling these type of areas (as witnessed on aol, Fakebook etc) and no threat if you aren't there. I believe that the internet has caused more harm to relationships than any other medium in history. Lots of people cheat and then say stupid shit like it was an accident, they didn't mean to catch feelings etc. I don't view many things in life as an accident, many are totally avoidable if one is mindful of their position and actions. While I know I love my girlfriend and would never fall prey to such mechanisms, I am mindful of her feelings and will never put her in a position of wondering.

I didn't know Discord had a bad rap for hacking...

There are wolves of both sexes prowling these type of areas

This reminds me of something that happened to me on discord. A stranger told me to drop a link to my latest post, and he would upvote it, so I did, thinking it was some kind of curation project or something. After thanking him, he simply said, "I see you" I was all scared and thought what does he mean he sees me...is this some kind of organized stalking/hacking bullshit going on? Then I asked him, "What do you mean you see me?" He corrected himself and said, "Can I see you?" Turns out he was just a perv with bad English haha! Still creepy though.

I have so much respect for you that you place boundaries on yourself to guard against infidelity and to put her mind at ease. Very classy. :)

hacking via Discord

It also seems that many apps are hacks, either through the company that made it or an exploit. I would point you to the way they spy on us through phone apps, and the hack on the trading bots at Binance a few months ago.

I have so much respect for you that you place boundaries on yourself to guard against infidelity and to put her mind at ease. Very classy. :)

Thank you :)

It also seems that many apps are hacks

I am aware of this. I remember hearing a warning a couple of years ago that all flashlight apps spy on us. Really I think probably almost all apps cross their bounds this way. Do you keep any apps on your phone? It would be hard for me not to. Then again I use a Silent Circle Blackphone 2, and can choose what permissions I want to allow. 99% of my activity on Discord is to check ginabot, and I don't join random server invites. And now I learned my lesson to ignore people I don't know.

P.S. I did it again! My VP is only at 40%. Around dust vote level now, so I'm going to try to not be around for a few days. Don't know if I have the will power, but I guess we will see haha.
