➽ Art? Blog XII ➽

There's a lot of advice for newcomers to steemit. Some of the advice is great and some of it is not. Almost without fail, though even the good advice is often misunderstood. Hopefully I can give you a new perspective on this advice and help everyone, newcomers and veterans alike. All the artwork is by @scarlet-rain, please follow and support this talented young artist.

Leaders care about the community

The first thing to remember about Steemit is that it's a social media based system. It seems such an obvious thing, but it's not. Everyone arrives here and immediately starts posting new articles with fervour, then they are inevitably disappointed with the results and often give up at this point.

If your posts are not successful, stop posting. Analyse your profile and check what your feed looks like. If someone was to visit your profile for the first time, would they be impressed by your blog and the well chosen, topical posts that you've resteemed or would they just see a load of random garbage that you've resteemed from the trending page hoping to catch the attention of a whale.

Make sure you reply to everyone. Don't leave open threads. If someone has taken the time to read and comment on one of your posts, respond immediately. Learn more about the community and the people that follow you.

For example, I know the sad story of why @artwatch stopped painting for many years. I know what @platonicsironic is studying. I know about the business that @headlessjess sells art and custom painted clothing at the market in Australia. I know that @errymil lives in California and only started painting a few years ago.

I know all of this because I have interacted with them and taken the time to find and read their posts and learn about them as people as well as artists. This has earned me not just followers, but friends.

Leaders listen more than they speak

Don't worry about how much money you're making or how many followers you have, rather try to find new connections by reading and commenting on posts that interest you.

Posting new articles will only benefit you if you have followers that care enough to read your content, but commenting in a meaningful way on other peoples posts could give you multiple upvotes from a single post. You will also make new friends and isn't that the point of a social media site?

We all want to gain followers and make a good profit but if you're only in it for the money, it's very obvious and you will never be successful.

Leaders never follow the crowd

Stop focusing on the trending page. Are you wondering why a certain individual just got over a thousand dollars for her blog and gets that for 5 days running. She does a great job and she deserves the upvotes but why are there are so many amazing blogs out there that don't get any recognition.

This is quite simply because people behave like sheep. Stop being a sheep and vote for articles that deserve it and stop wasting your voting power on hot and trending posts that are doing well without your help. There will always be sheep out there, but you can't change everyone else, you can only change yourself.

The number of followers you have really doesn't matter unless you're a spammer. You won't get upvotes unless you support your followers, read their articles and comment. Resteem only posts that are relevant.

Forget about people who use auto posting and autovoting sites as they are unlikely to care about you and obviously never read your posts. To succeed you must support one another and work together to make your steemit journey a success.

Finally, I'd like to welcome some new friends and family to Steemit as well. My brother @leelektrik has started a blog about musicians on Steemit and I'd also like to welcome @sharonnicholas who is a best selling author and artist. Welcome also welcome some amazing new musicians to Steemit - @owenkay, @danshaw, @shaewebbmusic and my sister @edenmichelle. And I'm sure you've already met my mom, @pandamama.

"I draw in my spare time mostly on paper but also on my computer from time to time. I've been watching anime since I was around 5 or 6 years old and I've been a big fan ever since. Which is why my art is so heavily inspired by anime."

@scarlet-rain is one of my favorite artists on here! <3 Her stuff is always so nice, and she's a lot more consistent than me LOL

I can't wait to see how she develops her art in the future :3

I will say though - as somebody who has a hard time keeping up with. Well. Anything, I use auto-upvoting for people I really like, so I can keep supporting them even if I miss their post :v I auto-upvote way less people since the recent hardfork tho lol

But I kinda imagine it like Steemit's version of Patreon - I'm risking my voting power for somebody I wanna support! >:3

Yeah, her art has a really awesome style. That girl with the mask is really striking - can't believe she did it on her phone.

Yeah, I've heard both sides of the debate on bots and auto-voting, but I really hope for a few people to actually read my stuff and that really means a lot when you've taken the time to prepare a good post. The new voting system makes it tough to support everyone so I hate leaving it up to a machine to decide.

It's like when people ask "Should I upvote myself?". My feeling is if your post is good, upvote yourself and if it's bad, don't upvote yourself. Easy!

Not judging though, I know people don't always have time and the auto-voting does have it's plus side.

@deimus, I have actually been blessed with this post. I joined steemit 3days ago. I have been wondering how some dry post get upvotes. Later I figure it out that, the common law of good relationship building applies here and principles of social media practice . As much as I blend with the above principles , I love to read and comment only when articles are meaningful , and give upvotes when neccesary.

Thank you for stopping by and welcome to the Steemit community! Yes, making friends and connections is what it's all about. I also love reading and I think that's a real virtue in a community like this.

Thanks again for including all your artists and now, the musicians that are new to Steemit as well.
The advice is sound - everyone needs to remember that we are here to uplift one another and to build good and meaningful relationships so that we have true followers who are interested in hearing what we have to share

Cool post

Thanks for all your support, @pandamama

You're welcome - you deserve it - I see how much effort you put into your articles

No more than you deserve @deimus

Thanks for the mention bro @deimus

No problem, bro @leelektrik! Your new music blog is great, keep it up!

Thanks for a great post, @deimus, some good advice in here! I've been on Steemit for 16 days or so and I'm trying to do the right thing here - interacting without asking to follow or anything; posting my own (hopefully meaningful) content to the community and it has worked out quite well so far :) although it's not always a given that anything you post has value to others. That's art, I guess?

I've been following these artists @mikkolyytinen, @alex-zerr, @omwith, @william-syrus, if you need inspiration.

Thanks for doing this work, appreciated!

Thanks for stopping by and welcome! Yeah there's a really great community here and I think there's a great opportunity for artists in the future. Thanks for the tips on the other artists, always looking for new inspiration !

Thanks, and you're welcome!

These articles are so insightful @deimus - we are still learning every day and struggling to find time to write articles like yours. Time is coming though when we will have videos and music to post and I look forward to posting them up here in Steemit

Awesome, the new songs are sounding great. Look forward to hearing the final tracks.

Thank you @deimus for the shout out. I can't wait to really get started here with discussing atists' work and promoting them. I can tell you love writing.

No problem, it's great to have you on Steemit and I'm looking forward to seeing the other artists you bring.

i know i already said thanks but really it makes me so happy to be featured here, so thanks again for doing it i really appreciate it :D
and thanks for Recommending me @platonicsironic :)

Haha and once again I say it's a pleasure and you totally deserve it!

Wise and thoughtful advice, well-crafted. Thank you, @deimus. And indeed, @scarlet-rain's artwork is delightful! She's lucky to have someone like you promoting her...such a Steemian thing to do.

Thanks for reading, yeah there's a great community of artists here on Steemit. Hopefully I can help a bit in a small way

Thank you for such an insightful post. It's really quite amazing to see how much you really appreciate your followers and know them so well. That's exactly how you should be. The work that you're doing here is great, @deimus and I have a lot of faith that it will start pay off greatly for you as you get more followers. You're definitely a leader! And to @scarlet-rain, great artwork!

Thanks for the compliment @owenkay. You're an amazing lyricist so it means a lot.

If we can support each other then the artists and musicians on steemit will all succeed!

It's a pleasure. And you deserve it, man! Definitely. Heard you're working on a book. Good luck, brother! I hope all is going well, and the creative juices are flowing!
