Hey @nonlinearone, Blockchain technology IS the only future for the internet. 6 days ago, the United States gave up there control of the internet to the United Nations (ICANN). Now the UN can censor everything and shut everything and anything that has a domain.
With that being said, nothing on a centralized server is safe... Even Steemit is not safe because it has a domain... Steemit needs to be a downloadble application for it to become safe!
Hopefully the Steemit team is working on it as we speak!

Good point, thanks for bringing it up. Note that you can use Steem without steemit.com You can do this via the command line wallet, the open source app eSteem, and through other alpha/beta level apps. You can connect to non-domain name based (ip only) seed nodes using the command line tool, and interface with all Steem content that way. Very exciting!
