in #beersaturday6 years ago

#Hello again my fellow beer lovers!!
This is my seventh beer review in the Irish Beer Review series by @ablaze. I basically try one Irish beer every week, and then rate and review it for all of you wonderful Steemians

If you have any suggestions of beers you'd like me to taste in the future, just leave comment below, and I will try to source and review it for you.

It's been great so far, and I've already discovered a some top class beers, and some not so much, but you have to try them to know! So onto this week..

This weeks beer of the week is.....

Boyne Brewhouse Irish Craft IPA

Intro

This one is brewed just up the road from where I live. So, I was intrigued to see how the local brew stacked up against the other beers of Ireland which I have tried so far.

This one also won a gold medal at the Dublin Craft Beer Cup 2017, so I was expecting good things from it. And to be fair, it didn't disappoint, It was a good solid beer, which I will buy again.

Review

This is a proper IPA. It poured a lovely deep golden orange colour, and gave a nice lasting head. The beer laced well, with subtle carbonation. The flavour was distinctly fruity, with grapefruit, orange peel and lemon zest to the fore. Pine notes and possibly resin apparent also. Quite a bitter, yet refreshing aftertaste, the ingredients really complement each other well, and this is a well balanced beer. This one went down very well, and you would not think it was 6.8%, so thread carefully if you are swilling these on a night out!

I enjoyed this on Friday night after work, and was made all the better by enjoying it alongside one of my favourite dishes from my local Indian - Lamb Rogan Josh, and not forgetting the pompadoms of course!!

Stats

  • Brewer: Boyne Brewhouse, Platin Road, Drogheda, Co. Meath, Rep of Ireland
  • Alcohol Content: 6.8%
  • Size: 500ml/50cl bottle
  • Bitterness: Medium to Strong
  • What they say: The Boyne Valley region provides us with a bountiful supply of the key ingredients that go into making all of our craft beers—from the water to the malt, to the brewing styles and inspirations. All our water is sourced from our very own deep water well and the majority of our malt is Irish and local sourced where possible. We source all our hops from the best speciality producers globally. Sustainability is very important to us. Our bi- products (spent grains ) are very high in protein and so are used as local animal feed.
