Story: Matthew and the Dragons (Part XXVI)
Part XXVI
*Rumbling sound *
"Hurry and put it inside the cart!" Ordered a soldier.
A great number of people are watching as the soldiers and workers are putting some objects made out of metals.
"This is the instruction on how to assemble the machine," Matthew said while passing a parchment to the soldier's hand. "I will also send some of my craftsmen so as to not make any mistakes while assembling the machine. I'll leave their protection to you guys."
Yes, the metal-made objects that the soldiers were carrying is none other than the Matthew's newly finished machine, which his friends and the workers called the "exterminator"! A machine made specifically to combat large creatures such as dragons!
But due to it's size Matthew disambled it to make it easier to carry and move.
"Please, worry not sir Matthew! We will make sure that the craftsman and the machine will reach the fort safely!" Answered the soldier respectfully.
Matthew nods and the soldier left after a salute. Then the soldier ordered everyone to move aside and the carts carrying the new machine quickly left.
"There are already assassins from the "organization" assigned to protect them but I ordered some of my subordinates to clean the area they're going to pass as precaution." Maria whispered.
"Thank you." Matthew replied in appreciation.
He then looked as the carts carrying the new machine disappear from sight. He then ordered the craftsmen to enter the workshop and work on the second machine.
Back at the castle.
"The new machine is enroute to Dullan fort your majesty," a retainer report.
The king was visibly pleased after hearing the report. "We can finally retaliate..."
"How's the protection of the craftsmen and the machine? We will be in trouble if they get intercepted on the way," the king asked.
A general stood up and explained the steps they've taken to ensure the new machine and the craftsmen assigned to assemble it.
The king nods at this and felt satisfied. Then his face become solemn. "We must only use the machine after the black dragon and the his ally great dragons appears"
"Try not to expose the machine's capability until then," the king added.
Everyone agreed to this. To use the new machine effectively, they must caught the enemy by surprise. After all if the timing is not right, the machine's effectiveness will be greatly reduced—especially since there's only one machine at the moment.
Meanwhile at a camp in the outskirt of the kingdom, duke Bernard waa having a meeting when a soldier suddenly entered.
"What is it?" The duke asked.
"There's a missive from the birds, your grace," the soldier answered.
The soldier then passed a parchement to the duke and waited.
"You can leave now," the duke ordered.
"Yes, your grace!"
After the soldier left, duke Bernard opened the parchment, a frown appeared on his aged face.
"Your grace?" The commander of the knights asked after seeing the duke become quiet.
"The enemy's new weapon was completed," the duke replied grimly.
"What?" Everyone exclaimed in shock.
Nobody inside the tent was unaware that the kingdom is developing a new type of weapon. They've seen the "hive" and are aware of its power against ground and flying units. They're still racking there brain how to counter it when they heard that new weapon was actually completed!
A number of nobles and knights can't help but curse in frustration.
The duke ignored the cursing and was in deep thought. Suddenly he opened his eyes, determination and ruthlessness can be seen.
"Send troops and lesser to intercept the new weapon," he ordered! "Come! I will meet with lord black dragon!"
The duke then leave the tent without waiting for anyone's reply. His guards and retainer panicked and quickly followed.
Mounting his horse, he quickly rode towards the black dragon's temporary den!
