Mini Motivation #65 - Have you ever lost your mojo (magic touch)?

in #psychology8 years ago

After a streak of 63 days of Mini Motivation postings, I was quite stuck yesterday morning. In case this is your first post of mine that you're reading, basically two months ago, I decided to block my first 21 minutes of my day to write a Steemit post of roughly 300 words, and do to it daily. Had been going on well for 63 days straight, until yesterday.

I was stuck, wasn't for lack of topics, nor was it the timing. It's the same period I had been doing my writings, and I have tons of topics on standby. I just blanked out when I opened a new note in Evernote!

I tried changing topics, thrice actually, and couldn't trigger the initial thoughts. I struggled to find the momentum, usually the first few words to the first sentence, to kick off the morning sleepiness. I changed location, from my bed, to the day bed, to the table, even to the living room, but still blank.

There were thoughts, but there were messy. And for once after two months of this daily routine, I started to feel the fear. "Crap, is the streak over? Had I been pushing it too much and this is the furthest I can get? Have I lost my mojo?"

Now, I can tell you for sure, fear didn't help much, because it just let to more anxiety.

Luckily, after making breakfast for Will, and one final attempt, I managed to write. Took me more than 21 minutes, but still, I managed to get it out.

The fear lingers still though, even after I hit the post button, throughout the day. I kept thinking what if it happens again the next day. Do I have to call it quits?

It was then that I started to realize, mental blocks do exist, even when it comes to habits we've honed for a while.

For exammple:

Have you arrived at the junction on your usual way to work, and just can't seem to figure out where to turn?

Or can't seem to find that Excel function you'd been using for years?

Or for worse cases, there could be amazing skills you once had, that you can execute effortlessly for the longest time you can remember, that you are proud of, and all of the sudden, you just lost it?

Usually after a sense of anxiety, you will get that "mojo" back. No, I haven't really figured out the reason that caused it, other than just perhaps a little break from the routine is needed. Or it could be an internal "system refresh".

Have you experienced something like this? Not just in writing, but a habit you thought you could automate, and have it fail on you when you needed it? How did you fix it?

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3 minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

Yup, I had it before. Just like a computer, maybe we need to reboot once in awhile. It happened to me last week, for almost 2 whole day I couldn't write anything. So, I just did some steepshots.

Yep, this is soo true. Happens to me a lot in different ways actually. Even in speech, you all of a sudden forget a word you use a lot and left wondering whether you're getting dumb or not?

I feel you, bro. It's like "shit, what was I saying earlier...?"

@maverickfoo thanks for the encouragement. You don't know what this means to me. Really!

After 7 days of writing this new blog about God...and just seeing such little impact, I was getting really tired already. Hahaha (Truth). As a Christian, we are all called to speak the truth.

So yeah, this post helps me see beyond and to persevere like what Jesus did all the way to the Cross. He didn't choose to give up, he took it right to the very end.

Imagine if he gave up half-way. There would be NO Hope for humanity.

Thank you Maverick. You are my little angel sent to lift me up.

Blessings! @seekgod

Awh, shucks, that really means a lot to me.

Cheer up, don't be mad at yourself, because while rage may propel you to write sometimes, it's hardly anything worth showing to the world. Passion and hate are just two very different things, and in the midst of frustrations, we sometimes confuse the two.

Take a short break, because flow, just like true inspiration, can't be forced. I always like to believe that when you pray to God for clarity, He will not grant it. Rather, He will grant you the opportunity to practice clarity, because through that will you find that it has always been in you, and He just merely nudged you in the right direction.

Chin up. :)

@maverickfoo thank you for replying, and again adding new value and perspective to this. Wow.

Blessings mate.

Great writing, I like it.
I appreciate your Post
Thanks for sharing....

good 👍

I was actually JUST talking about this with my daughter a few minutes ago, then finally said, "Okay, I MUST do some writing and productive" and then clicked on the link to your post.

I find that when I back away and try something entirely different it tends to help. I do a lot of freewrites when I'm struggling to think of something to write or the words aren't flowing and it always helps at least inspire me to do SOMETHING new. :)

Great post
