My 1 year Steemit anniversary post!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

August 2017: After many months of hearing about Steemit from fellow local activists like Dan Dicks from @PressforTruth, I finally couldn't resist any longer, and handed over my private phone number to get an account!

Here's a review of my first 6 months on Steemit!

https://steemit.com/silver/@drutter/hey-guys-it-s-drutter-here
My first ever post! Steemit lists the date as "last year" (not very helpful) but I believe it was late August. I started out thinking I'd use Steemit as another place to upload my silver and activism content, which until then had mainly been done on YouTube.

Next came some Bitcoin analysis, something I had already been doing for years, and which I've continued to do.

The September 16th '420 farmers market', held in Robson Square, downtown Vancouver BC. I've been involved in grassroots cannabis activism - at the street level - here for several years, and I'm proud to broadcast my cause increasingly on the blockchain!

Steemit lists this as "11 months ago". The first introduction of my wife, MediKatie, and her cannamodeling with the Girls of Green. (None of them had their own Steemit pages yet!)

8 months ago I got much more active, as DTube started to upload and play a bit better. I've always been a vlogger (for 10+ years) so not being able to upload videos really made me change how I do things! At the time, I believed DTube was superior to YouTube (now I realize that's not the case) so I was uploading to DTube a lot. Unfortunately, none of those upoads will play anymore. (DTube videos are deleted from the server after a few weeks.)

You can't watch it anymore, but I did a DTube video about how I'm moving my activism to the blockchain! DTube itself upvoted my post and I launched from 28 to 42 reputation.

The Vancouver 420 farmers markets were raided by police. My coverage of the issue included footage from the raid itself, as well as analysis of the situation, and repeating of my belief that cannabis "legalization" was nothing more than monopolization of the industry to benefit the rich and powerful.

My video about fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition it seems I encountered a couple year ago. (I continue to suffer, and search for further diagnosis and treatment.)

I took the leap and decided to grow cannabis on the blockchain! The DTube video (now gone) showed the 7 sprouts I got from 10 seeds I'd picked up at the 420 farmers market. See previously unreleased photo above. My writeup discussed the importance of civil disobedience, and how the blockchain is the perfect place for it! (Since that's about as public as one can get, and doing the act publicly is part of civil disobedience. The point is to be seen, not to do the supposed-crime anonymously in hiding!) Thus began the life of the "Pink Kush Girls", who are still growing and being featured on my page to this day!

The pink kush sprouts took root, and I discussed my plan to grow them into medicine here on the blockchain. Assuming all goes well, of course! (And so far, it has!)

A re-upload from YT, but an important one - claiming my right to think and speak freely.

https://steemit.com/cannabis/@drutter/my-goal-to-end-cannabis-prohibition
To prohibit is to prevent, delay, hamper, or encumber. Therefore, my goal is to oppose ANYTHING that prevents, delays, hampers, or encumbers access to cannabis.

The coming "legalization" in Canada delays and hampers access to cannabis, and is thus prohibition - by definition. Plant number limits are prohibition. Plant height limits are prohibition. Fees and taxes are prohibition. Enforcement is prohibition. Restricting research is prohibition. Requiring permits and licences is prohibition. Forcing growers to use government genetics is prohibition. Giving certain rights to government-approved producers over individuals is prohibition. Arrests for cannabis is prohibition. "Legalization" includes all these things and more.

As an opponent of cannabis prohibition, I must oppose the coming "legalization".
Free and fair market!

In this DTube video (permanently available on Google) I'm harassed by police for protesting at Robson Square. After decades of it, this was essentially the last cannabis activism to happen there. I lamented about the loss of such a vibrant, peaceful, successful market that healed hundreds of people including MS patients and little kids with epilepsy.

I praised Steemit: "Because I'm a photographer, I have a TON of photos, audio, and video. Not that I'm all that skilled, but I've been to some cool places, always had a camera with me, gotten some lucky shots, and seen some cool things. I've amassed a library. Some of it should be shared through Steemit with the world."

About 6 months ago now. This was my first Steemit-only video, and since then I've gradually moved to doing ALL my stuff here on Steemit. I barely upload to YouTube anymore, but I do keep my channel up because those videos (and the comments on them) are part of the historical record.

My Steemit strategy is to gain upvotes for my quality content (posts and comments) and to give out upvotes for other quality content. In this way, we build each other up and grow as a team or community. The more people doing it, the bigger the effect! We don't need any other strategies or gimmicks to succeed here. If we do, Steemit is failing at its purpose! Create content, and curate well. If we all did this, the site would be full of incredibly powerful and high-quality stuff, not what we see today - lists of high paying bots, and tips on how to get your post on the trending page. Lame. Nobody's going to come to Steemit to hear about Steemit. It has to be about other things too, which is why I try to bring UNIQUE and QUALITY content to the blockchain with my posts.

MediKatie and a pink kush seedling!

Please stay tuned for the second half of my 1st year on Steemit!

I am always happy to meet people from Venezuela. I want to learn more about the economy and the people. I know things are bad right now, but the news here doesn't tell us the truth, so I want to hear about it from you and others. Thanks!
