Hello everyone, as many of you may know, my great grandmother passed away this week. Yesterday was her funeral which is why I didn't post. I decided that this week's weekly7 would be in honor of her. If you are grieving over the death of someone you love, this is an excellent list to listen to. Here are 7 Songs I've Been Listening to this Week in Remembrance of My Great Grandmother.

7. String Symphony no. 8 In D Major - Mendelssohn

This piece sounds quite sad in the beginning, which I think speaks to the initial emotion you feel after someone you loved dies. However, as it passes it begins to sound a lot more cheerful which is when you realize the person is in a better place. I have been listening to this piece a lot this week.

6. Piano Sonata no. 8 Movement 2 - Beethoven

I have incorporated this piece into so many lists, but I honestly have been listening to this this week. I said over the summer that they should start playing this at funerals, and I still stand with that thought. I feel it depicts being at rest, or at ease which I think is a thought that a lot of people (including myself) have when someone they loved has died.

5. Ich Grolle Nicht - Schumann

I think this piece depicts the anger involved in grief. I think it is important that we feel this anger, it makes us realize how much we loved the person, and how much we may have taken having them in our life for granted.

4. Mazurka no. 37 in A-Flat Major - Chopin

This means more to me personally than it probably will to other people. My great grandmother has been using a walker for as long as I can remember. When I first listened to this this week, I imagined her walking around, and even running. That's why this piece has meant something to me this week.

3. And So it Goes - Billy Joel

This song makes me think of the self-blame part of grief. It describes taking someone for granted with lyrics such as "And every time I've held a rose, It seems I only felt the thorns" which metaphorically represents "I've only cared about what is wrong in my life, and never what was right." I have been listening to this song a lot this week as well.

2. Seasons of Love - Rent

This piece has significant value to me because of how much my grandmother cared for other people. Even though she hadn't been able to go to church for nearly a decade, she continued to help plan church events, and meet with the pastor. I learned how many lives she affected from the comfort of her own home yesterday at the funeral.

1. Pavane -  Fauré

I have probably listened to this piece the most of all this week. For some reason I just feel emotional listening to this piece. I think it is the huge contrast between the piano pizzicato strings in the base in the beginning, to a new theme that is loud, emotional, and legato towards the end. I feel like this can represent a human life, in the beginning of your life, you don't really have much of a conscious impact on the world, but as you grow more mature, you begin to have an effect on many different people. I have used this song before in a list, but I felt it was the most influential on my emotions this week.

7 Songs I've Been Listening to this Week in Remembrance of My Great Grandmother

Thanks for reading this! I should hopefully finish off the Art of War review series this weekend. I am excited to start another series, nothing is finalized, but I was thinking of starting a weekly/maybe daily talk show which I would call "Chatterbox." Of course, I'd steer clear of politics, but let me know if you think I should do this, and if so what I should talk about. Anyway, feedback is appreciated, and remember to check back later.
