Frightmare Mansion - Chapter 22 - A Kiss Goodnight
Mom is reading another page-turner romance novel in her bed. She's been an avid reader since she was my age, she doesn't even watch TV. Oh my God she uses the Internet just for emails. Yup, she's a real bookworm. The moving guys had to pack up at least five large boxes of books.
But it keeps her out of my hair most of time so I'm not complaining. I peek around her bedroom doorway not really wanting to disturb her. But right now I feel like when I was three years old and wanting to crawl in with her whenever Dad worked nights. I always felt safe somehow. She can't see that I have my pillow in my hand yet as I have it strategically hidden around the doorway.
She glances from her burning hot romance novel, "Oh your home honey."
"I hate to bother you...."
"Are you kidding? Come on in and tell me all about your date!"
With a welcoming smile, she pulls one side of the blanket open for me, I throw my pillow in and I quickly jump in. I hold up the night light I brought with me. Mom approves with a nod. I plug it into the outlet near me.
"Well, you certainly came prepared. Thank God Kylie and Justin haven’t experienced anything else. "I really appreciate the fact that you haven’t mentioned anything more about ghost to them."
I fluff my pillow up, "Don’t make a big deal out of it Mom".
"Okay tell all of the juicy details about your date."
"Oh Mom, Chris is so amazing! His friends all admire him, and they seem to really like me too!"
"That's wonderful honey!"
"After the park we all went to have pizza and then saw a movie at the mall."
Mom puckers her lips, I'm wondering what the heck she's doing, "What's up with the kisser?"
"Did he give you a goodnight kiss?"
"No, but I wanted him to! But he's such a gentleman!"
"Your Dad was too. I finally had to plant one on him."
"Wow, I though in the old days for sure the girl had to wait for the boy to make the first move."
"Old days? It was 1997 for Christ's sake."
"Like I said Mom, the old days."
