Frightmare Mansion - Chapter 12
I'm laying out some pepperoni on our fancy homemade pizza, while Mom is putting finishing touches with the frosting on a delectable double layer Dutch chocolate cake. My belated Birthday cake of course.
"Look how good your cake looks. I know Chocolate is your favorite," Mom does the last swirl of frosting as Justin walks in and wants a taste. He's liking his lips and pointing to his mouth like he's a pantomime. Mom let's the little bugger lick the spoon.
"Oh Mom, now watch, he'll be jumping around all night like the Eveready Bunny. I'm going to have to whack him with a pillow a couple of times."
"Yum that was good Mommy!" he jumps up and down.
"Look he's hopping already! Are you sure that frosting won't bloat his stomach? He's already got a little pot belly going on. Big head, pot belly people are going to think he's a 50 year old midget."
"I use to let you lick the spoon when you were little remember?"
"Yup, I wasn't much older then this shrimp."
Mom pulls the spoon from his mouth, "Okay baby, go wash up, dinner will be ready soon," she pats Justin's behind. And would'nt you know it, that little butt hole throws a fart as he runs giggling from the kitchen .
"You see that kid has got too much gas! He could probably light a candle at ten feet. Then you're making poor Kylie sleep in the same room with him, she'll be lucky to survive until dawn."
"Oh come on, it couldn't be that bad?" as she starts sniffing and wrinkling her nose. She opens a window, "Well we could use a little fresh air in here."
I head towards the window gasping, "Ugh, you see, we're talking sardines and sulfur mixed together here!"
"Mom, Ive been meaning to ask you something."
"What is it honey?"
"Do you miss Dad?"
"Of course I do, I miss him a lot."
"How did you know he was the one?"
"Well, if all you can do is think about him all the time, and you miss him when he's not around, that's a good indication."
"Did you feel a tingle, like behind your neck?"
"Yes I did. When I first saw him, I felt butterflies in my tummy too," her memories brings a smile to her face.
"You said you met in high school."
"Yes, he was in my science class. I remember it so well, when he walked in on the first day of class, I liked what I saw immediately. He saw me looking at him, our eyes locked and he came right over and sat right next to me. I remember my heart pounding, and my palms sweating, my mouth dry. Then he looked right over at me with his gorgeous smile and said "Hello, I'm Phil Duncan." I knew right there and then he was the one for me."
Mom notices my big smile.
"My - my, someone is in a good mood," she says.
"I guess I'm over my temper tantrum about celebrating my birthday a day late."
"Would it have anything to do with our new nieghbor?" Mom probing again.
"Yes, of course. Thinking about Chris seems to occupy my time now."
"Well good, you just watch, all of his friends will soon become your friends. All of this on the first day here. You see I told you Sunnier days ahead."
"Alright, don't rub it in,"as I put the pizza into the oven.
"You felt a special warmness with Dad, didn't you?"
"Yes, you could say that. It was like I felt his warm heart, he made me feel special, and I felt very comfortable with him."
"I feel that way with Chris already."
"I figured that honey, love can strike you when you least expect it."
Mom is so right about that. My whole mood has changed about the prospects of living here.
